Samskipti-Melissa
Hello Everyone!
i posted in the september weddings forum before introducing myself out of sheer excitement of a forum that specific but now i will introduce myself.
My name is Melissa, I am 22 years old, almost a college graduate of Hunter College and I live in New York (Brooklyn now with the fiance), i've lived in NY my whole life and love it very much. We were engaged rather spontaneously on May 22nd (my parents anniversry!) after having brunch & going to an afternoon concert in a loft. We were just wandering around the neighborhood he used to live in before we met and we stopped at a bar to use the restroom and have a drink. We started to discuss our relationship and once we got outside he proposed to me, i thought he was kidding and he got down on one knee and asked me "no seriously, will you?" Despite no ring, we deemed it official and we then spent the next few hours calling up all our friends out of excitement.
We went ring shopping together a few times and just as he was putting pressure on me to choose a ring and he surprised me with the one i liked best after dinner at a little italian pastery shoppe in the lower east side. We have been very lucky with planning thus far. We looked at the first venue we both fell in love with and after looking at a few others (it was very hard as we wanted a non-conventional space) we decided to try to book the first venue we looked at although we hadn't gotten in touch with them since we first saw it which had been months. Luckily, our tentative weekend set was open on September 3rd (which is the night we met in 2004 although past midnight)! We are having our reception and perhaps our ceremony as well at www.thefoundry.info
I fell in love with a gown very early on that i saw on on theknot.com and happen to look it up on ebay randomly one day in September and happen to find it for less than half the estimated value! I rushed to Saks 5th Ave (the one store that had it in stock in NY) with my mother the following day, tried it on, and knew it was the one without6 trying any other on and the gown is happily sitting in my parent's house. Our wedding colors are green and orange (not sure as to what shade just yet!)
Well, i guess that's a pretty detailed introduction and i'll leave it at that!

we would have the ceremony in the courtyard. use the chairs we will be using for the tables, follow the ceremony with a cocktail hour inside, be announced as man & wife, then have the guests move back out to the tent where all the tables will be set. the vendors have assured us that this runs very smoothly and i also like the idea of not making guests kill time while we have our photos taken or having to drive from one location to another as there will be many out of town guests!

again, thanks everyone for the nice words and congratulations to all of you married/engaged as well!
SuzyBride, thank you! we couldn't believe the site when we came across it either. It's in a desolate part of town where all there is around are factories & warehouses, barren streets at all times & the venue has a security guard watching everyone's car. sure makes for cheap parking for all guests

I think that sounds very nice!! That is a really smart idea to use the same chairs twice, it saves cost as well as labor setting up chairs! And it is a great use of time to have guests mingle and have cocktail hour while the ceremony/reception site is being reworked.

Your venue is stunning Melissa! My FH would love that place...
BTW I'm going to be racking your brains in a couple of months time for places to shop & eat in NY, that's where we're going for our honeymoon & neither of us have even been to the US before. (This goes for the rest of you NY women too, you know who you are )

Welcome Melissa! That looks like such a cool place where the wedding is.
Where in Brooklyn are you? I'm near Prospect Park.
