Cannot Dance... I am a klutz
I am considering taking ballroom dance classes... I have no grace at all and am tall and lanky. I have this image of just falling or tripping and really embarrassing myself. I took ballet as a child and was always the one stuck at the end (almost behind the curtain) at recitals because I was so ungraceful...Has anyone else considered dancing lessons???

I would if I could afford it! I would also happily forego dancing at my wedding but my FH's side has a family tradition of dollar dances... so I'll be kept busy dancing all the while! lol. Slow dances I'm ok with, but the current dancing styles I'm totally clueless on.
I think I'll make it all slow dances!

I want to DRAG Jake to dance lessons. He is embarassed to dance He has white boy no rhythm syndrome.
I need the I know that a lot of local churches have dance lessons. I live in Chicago and we walk past Holy Name Cathedral (a very famous catholic church) and they have dance lessons in their common room and it is so cute because it is people of all ages I mean older retired people, 20 year olds, 80 year olds(they are the cutest). I am sure that you would be able to find affordable lessons somewhere. I know you can buy movies and tapes on dance lessons so that way you can learn in the privacy of your own home.

I am cool without them because I know basic ballroom dancing from my time in the performing arts and have decent rhythm. I have no ability to club dance, but I don't really want to, as a chubby white girl grinding in her wedding dress is not a sight I want my guests to remember.
But, get this: Tom wants dance lessons. He feels very clumsy and wants to dance nicely. How cute is that? But he's afraid to go because he doesn't want anyone from the dept to find out -- he'd catch hell for that from the guys!

We had planned on taking them. I love couples dancing, Alan isn't a dancer because he doesn't feel like he can dance.
However our wedding ended up falling during his finals... His sched. doesn't/didn't come out until June for that semester.
So finding the time was impossible. Our plan is to take classes after the holidays. It will be our "date night"

We had discussed taking them as well as Tony has absolutely no rhythm. But, time flew by and we just never did go.

I've taken a bunch of "freebie" classes - mostly in college. But if you just want to learn some basic steps and rythm, check out your local community college or public school systems Adult education classes. I know our school system offers ballroom dance classes once a week in the high school gymnasium. It's like $35 for 8 weeks worth of classes.
I could NEVER get Rick to take dance classes! I mentioned once I wanted to do that for my birthday, and he about feel over laughing! Maybe I cuold get him to try swing or salsa, but definitely no waltzing for him!

(Side story: I almost physically kicked a woman out of my reception for grinding on ME when I was trying to talk to my 70 year old uncle. I was furious and told the Groomsmen who brought her to get her the hell out of my face. She was also grinding with several other women on the dancefloor. It only lasted a few minutes b/c he brought her ass to the hotel and I didn't see her again.)

Yeah, one of our local high schools has a curriculum for about $65 for 6 weeks that we are considering. I also found a guy that works on the side off of Craigslist... private lessons for 60% off... whatever that price may be. I haven't heard back from him yet though.

I ended up finding someone on Craigslist that works at a studio and does work on the side. We can get a few private lessons for $15 total and attend a practice party for the same price!! So, I think we may go with that. Joe is a great dancer. I am just so tall and lanky that I bump into things and am a huge klutz. Plus, I have no rhythum. I need serious help!!

I have taken two years of ballroom dancing they really do not make you any less of a klutz (I know because I am the type of person who can trip over air) they really just make you be klutzy with grace. It is really fun to take dance lessons but it is not really usefully because you dont do any modern dances. A lot of the are circular dances so unless everyone knows the waltz you will just be watlzing into everyone. It did however help my posture which was a nice added bonus and I can now spin without puking also a plus but alas my FH and I are as awkward as ever.

I am not a dancer either. I mean i cheered in school and danced at dances. But i have never felt comfortable doing it at all. And my fiance and I have NEVER danced together!! Our wedding is pretty casual and during the day, so how should we dance? Hand in hand? Or over the shoulder? And what about with my dad? And what kind of music do you play at a wedding? I don't want fast dancing, i have to many friends that would get a lil crazy. So do you just play instrumental music or what?(we have a dj)

I'm a HORRIBLE dancer too. One night in college I got reaaaaaaally drunk and went to a club with some friends and danced the night away. I thought I was doing okay, until the next morning when I saw those friends and they said "Yeah...never EVER do that again. You SUCK." Justin and I also have never danced together. But we're thinking about taking some ballroom dancing course at the rec. I dunno though.
