Red face September 3, 2006 Wedding - Color Help?

hello,

i just stumbled across this forum while searching for wedding tips for september weddings. my fiance & i are getting married on september 3rd in new york at www.thefoundry.info at first i knew right off the bat what colors i wanted to use, our favorite colors! green & orange. only after searching for bridesmaids dresses ive had a very difficult time finding something that i feel works well. i'm thinking tea length dresses (not matching styles) and in green or orange tones. i was thinking maybe both somewhat but i have no idea how. my gown is ivory & mint green (http://www.christosbridal.com/vsPrin...id=&style=ch65)
we are looking to have a formal meets urban wedding combining young NYC styles/ideas along with victorian like ideas.
any advice on color scheming or perhaps bridesmaids dresses you've chosen would be of great help to me. thank you!

Welcome to Bliss! Your dress is very pretty. Your date was our first choice but in 2005. It was not available though.

Anyways, I know that David's bridal has a couple of tea-length dresses.

Default Welcome!

First of all. Welcome to Bliss!! You'll love it here. Your dress is lovely and the wedding site is great. Quick question though, what color orange did you have in mind. I'm trying to picture an orange that goes with mint green, but I can't get a visual.

If you go for orange tones with mint green, I would definitely keep it light. Maybe a very light peach? I'm afraid I don't have too many ideas for where to look for tea-length dresses. I know that both David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo offer seperates, which may work well, since you wanted your girls in differing styles.

Welcome to Bliss! The more specific you get with what you want, the better we'll be at helping you. You may want to check out the color palettes section of the forum. One of our members posted a handy color wheel, to help visualize how colors work together.

BTW, I love your dress, too!

ETA: I was married Sep 3 this year

The mint green would mesh well with a sage green which many BM dresses come in. I'd keep the orange a burnt orange. Those 2 colors are nice together. Your dress is really pretty too, by the way. Good luck!

wow, thanks everyone for being so welcoming & all the compliments on my gown
i fell in love with the wedding dress the moment i saw it and was lucky enough to find an outrageous deal for it! now, i'm a little worried about over matching and having all mint green bridesmaids dresses as my gown itself has mint green accents.

lizbit, yes i was thinking about using peaches. then i starting doubting if i should since it's a september wedding and i thought that may be a little too spring-ish? i like the idea of using both green & orange since i feel green is a very summer color and orange a staple fall color, so september being the point of change why not use both!

i was just looking through old threads and came across a bridesmaids site ive been looking at and really like some dresses:
http://www.dessy.com/index.cfm?go=dresses&style=2026
http://www.dessy.com/index.cfm?go=dresses&style=2005
http://www.dessy.com/index.cfm?go=dresses&style=1996
http://a6.dessy.com/index.cfm?go=dresses&style=A6240
http://a6.dessy.com/index.cfm?go=dresses&style=A6215
in ginger, kiwi, and/or moss.

http://www.dessy.com/index.cfm?go=dresses&style=2015
http://a6.dessy.com/index.cfm?go=dresses&style=A6238S
in coral

http://www.dessy.com/index.cfm?go=dresses&style=2002
in kiwi

http://a6.dessy.com/index.cfm?go=dresses&style=A6250
in moss

sorry for the overload of links, im just really excited that i found a site with so many dresses i like in the colors i've been leaning toward but couldn't find dress styles in those colors! now its just a matter of how much money they cost, so if anyone has gotten a dress from here please let me know! input of favorite dresses/colors is super helpful as well.

also, for flowers i was thinking of using orange&yellow tiger lillies for the center pieces, golden calla lillies for my boquet, and peach or yellow calal lillies for my bridesmaids. wow, i'm so excited i found this forum!

Thumbs up Ooohh

Those are great dresses, and the colors are both beautiful and very flattering to combine with your gown. I didn't run into that manufacturer while I was dress shopping, so I don't have any idea of prices. But, I noticed there is a store locator on the site. Maybe there will be a nearby boutique that carries the dessy gowns that you can try out.

Good luck. And, keep us posted on your progress.

Welcome to Bliss! We're glad you found this forum too!

LOVE your dress! and congrats on finding a good deal on it; now you can spend that money elsewhere!

I'm partial to this dress http://a6.dessy.com/index.cfm?go=dresses&style=A6215 because mine were very similar (my mom made them). They were kinda a sageish-pee greenish color with accents of magenta (around the waist, top, bottom and on the back). Have you thought about combining the colors in the dresses like that at all? might be pretty.

I think that would look okay with your mint dress but i would have to see them together to be sure!!

okay I am completely in love with the dress that Gymrat mentioned. Do I have to be a bridesmaid to buy it?

Hi! Welcome to Bliss! Your gown is gorgeous! From what I can tell, it looks all white in the picture to me. What's mint green on it?

I can see a little bit of mint green on the very bottom of your wedding dress. Inbetween the hem and the other lace/edging about a foot up. It is pretty light though.

Is that the only place that has green on the dress?

My friend used this as her BM dresses. They looked pretty good on. They are pencil skirt though, not a-line.

I liked the first bridesmaid dress a lot and I LOVE the moss color. I think it would look really great with a burnt orange, very beautiful and fall-like.

Your wedding site is so chic, I'm totally jealous! The flowers sound lovely, too. I personally would keep it super super simple for centerpieces if I had that site. I think orange flowers will look perfect there.

Welcome to Bliss, you're going to love it here, the girls are so amazing and so helpful. I never want to leave!

Welcome to Bliss Samskipt! The girls here are really welcoming, friendly and they can be pretty honest too when you need it! I'm glad I found this site too, it's saved me from driving my FH & family crazy with wedding talk!

You're dress is lovely, I've never seen anything like that!
So when did you get engaged? How long have you been together?

MTGH: The mint is between the two lower lace panels & on the trim at the top of the corset & I think the waist line is mint too, though it's a bit hard to tell because of the way the model is reclining...

Oh, I see it now! Thanks, Ann! It would be nice to have the BMs in a matching shade or perhaps a little darker. I think I would try to stay between mint and sage at the deepest, because any other color green might clash. I think peach would match mint, but, personally, I'm not really a big fan of peach. But, September 3 is still late summer, so you could so with the summery colors of mint and peach and it would work. I like pumpkin or maybe even a burnt sienna--but then that's more fall, and I'm not sure it goes with mint. I think I'm overthinking the colors.

thanks ann we got engaged on may 22nd of this past year (spontaneously - he had been thinking it over for a few months and it just came out - on the date of my parents anniversary no less!) and we've been together since sept 5, 2001. we were going to have our wedding on the day we met but it didnt work well as it fell on the tuesday after labor so opted for the sunday september 3rd to make the date easier for our guests

i know what you mean about the mint-sage BM dresses but i don't truly want their dresses to perfectly match the shade of green on my dress. which is why i'm leaning more towards a mid-dark shade of green. i was also thinking peach for a while, but i felt it was too spring-y and had no luck finding dresses i liked very much in that color. i'm of course partial to orange because it's my favorite color & i really want to use both green & orange since they are my FH & I's favorite colors (we are so dorky we have those colors for towels & plates we use! ) Also, the way i see it is...September is the month where it changes from summer to fall and i feel summer reminds me of green (everything lush and lively) and fall is the staple color of fall. and i feel moss/ginger fit well with the setting of the venue as well. i'm going to order some swatches and put them up to my dress soon and see what colors looks best though so they don't completely clash!

im just not sure if i should use just moss or just ginger colored dresses or to have two & two or would that look too strange?

I personally would do the moss dresses and burnt orange flowers, that way the bouquets really stand out. If you have ginger dresses and orange flowers, they might get lost or clash. IDK if you wanted to maybe do different color flowers, but I think you mentioned tiger lilies...

I'm sure whatever you decide will be stunning, I love everything you have picked and think green and orange is a very beautiful and unique color pallate.

thank you for the words of encouragement i was thinking the same exact thing, if i choose moss dresses i will have orange flowers (tiger lillies or perhaps peach calla lillies) and the grooms will wear green ties. if i choose ginger dresses i will go with a yellow flower (either lillies or calla lillies). i was having trouble sleep last night and kept thinking of color combinations like that haha!
