Default Any One Having/ Had a Destination Wedding

I am considering a destination Wedding and I am not sure of how it works. I am sure that it is customizable just like a non destination wedding but I am looking for advice on planning one!

Thanks everyone!

I know of a few people that have done a destination wedding on a cruise or all inclusive resort type place... they rave about the ease of it. The local takes care of EVERYTHING for the most part. So all you have to do is arrive with attire and guest if any.

Michaelsbride had and Emily is having what I would consider a destination wedding. Both had them out of their local area (state or country) in a hometown area for either the Bride or Groom.

I'm kind of having one... I live in Virginia and I'm getting married in Puerto Rico.... But I'm original from PR so my family are taking care of everything. Having a wedding in a place outsite the local area is not the most easiest thing because you can't see everything and you have to trust somebody else.... but if you do it at a hotel or something like that, I'm pretty sure that they have coordinators that will help you.... I know I'm not being a big help, but wanted to give you an answer anyway....

Yep we are kind of having one - we are from NZ and live in England. Our wedding is in NZ but all our families are there organising the wedding for us so its a bit different to a destination wedding because with a destination wedding you are really only relying on the locals.

I must say that organising our wedding from England has saved us alot of arguments and stress and I imagine a true destination wedding would be the same, plus you have to tie in the excitement of going somewhere cool for the wedding which makes it that much more special! I think what has been great with organising our wedding is that we arent to fussed about the little things being just perfect, because at the end of the day we are seeing our family and friends and thats what matters!

Where are you thinking of having your destination wedding?

Well I dont know if you read my first post or not. Jake and I are not officially engaged yet. He wants to suprise me. I originally told him to wait until I graduate college but I decided that I cant wait and I am hoping he will ask me soon! His daughter (whose 7) keeps asking him when I can be her relative. So he is getting pressure form all the ladies in his life. Poor Guy! I am trying to be paitent!

We always talk about our wedding and what we would want. I am not sure that we will have a lot of help paying for it so we are just considering all the options. We want to buy a home too so that takes away even more $$.

I think if we are going to do a destination wedding I would LOVE to get married in Italy. but I know I could never afford that. I am a fun loving person and I think Vegas would be fun. We could have a real ceremony and then have a second ceremony by Elvis! I think it would be fun to be married in one of the little chapels that have Elvis impersonators! I dont know. I would like Hawaii or Jamacia but I feel like a lot of people do that and I like to be different.

The Venetian does beautiful weddings. When we went there for our HM some people were getting a private gondola ride on a velvet/suede boat. It was BEAUTIFUL!

I really wanted to have one to begin my honeymoon... but he didn't. I have known people to do it with great success. It all depends on a few things:
Is it your home town?? If so, you can enlist the help of family and friends to do research for you.
Is is a favorite traveling place?? I live in Charleston, SC and a lot of brides come here for destination weddings because it is a beautiful, romantic town with water surrounding it and the Old World Charm. They do not know anyone that lives here. In this case, I would highly reccommend hiring a wedding coordinator. They know the best places and vendors and can get you deals.
Is it out of country? So many resorts offer wedding packages, and you can marry right there either the two of you of with immediate family (Save lots of $$$ too). Then, you can hop over to another area of the country to get away form the family to begin your honeymoon. I originally wanted to get married in Tahiti or somewhere in South America, then throw a big party when I got back... but he is more traditional than I am. So, instead, we will be going there on our honeymoon. Check out www.theknot.com, they have some info for these types of resorts all over the world. In fact, there is a whole section on destination weddings.
http://www.theknot.com/keywords/sc_147_527.shtml
Also, check out this web site:
http://www.wedalert.com/content/hone...aly/index2.asp
http://www.travelplansintl.com/specials.html
http://www.weddingsitaly.com/
http://www.exclusiveitalyweddings.com/

Also, consider going through a travel agent. They should know the best places to go (you don't want to get stuck in a dump that looked great in the pics, but has bugs, etc., they should have the connections for exactly what you are looking for.). It should be well worth the extra money, they may end up saving you money by creating an indivualized package just for you. I actually have a friend that went to Italy for their honeymoon and they got tickets cheaper than if they had gone to Jamaica (their second choice). I believe they went through Expedia or some other search engine and bought a month before their wedding (much to her dismay... she was getting worried). But I know that rooms and food is more expensive there... Try finding an all-inclusive resort. The most important thing to remeber is research research research!!!
I Googled "destination weddings, Italy" and a lot of listings came up, and theknot.com will tell you everything you need (paperwork, etc.) to prepare. Good luck!!!

yeah there are a few ways of doing it. some resorts have free weddings with your stay or will help you plan it for a fee or whatever. we're staying at a condo and hired a local wedding planner who is doing it all for us. our package is under $1000 and includes the location, minister, flowers, photos, and onsite planner to put it all together. he's been really helpful so far and can even book us outings at a discount, and offered to book our accomodations and flight and said if we booked them with him he'd give us a discount on the wedding package.

depends on what kind of ceremony you want, ours is very simple and casual on the beach with about 10 guests. if you want a big traditional formal ceremony you might be better of doing it through a resort, some of the planner packages are pretty pricey when you start getting into arches and catering and whatnot.

I'm having a DW at Couples Swept Away (all inclusive resort) in Negril, Jamaica.

There are 4 different Couples Resorts in Jamaica and with, I think 3 night minimum stay, you get a free wedding that includes: Wedding coordinator, Non-denominational ceremony, Sparkling wine, Two-tier cake, Bridal bouquet and boutonniere, His and Hers half-hour massages, and Commemorative T-shirts.

We're getting married on 12/4/07......barefoot on the beach... and I'm so excited. Never been there before, but have been on the Couples message board just about every day and have had several brides email me directly answering my questions and sharing their wedding photos.....

I recommend anyone that's thinking of a DW to check out the Couples website before making any decision....actually right now they're running a special called FILA (fall in love again) and if you book your stay before 6/30/07 you save almost 50% off their regular prices.

Hope this helps anyone considering a DW in Jamaica.....feel free to email me directly if you have questions: mallen1@ch2m.com

I am planning my destination wedding in Turks and Caicos Apr 2008 at the Beaches resort. For me this way to go because there was just to much hassle in planning my wedding at home. Plus I was having a hard time justifying spending around 19,000 on a local wedding and trying to by a house in the same year.
I have been to Turks and cacios before and it is one of the beautiful Islands in a caribbean.
Is anyone planning or had a desintation wedding there?
The easiest way to get started it go to www.destinationweddings.com, they have some great places and good advice.

I just find it hard to believe that being your first post was about a website that you're honestly not trying to solicite. If you're not I do recant my accusation but also, most posters that become part of the forums have information in their profile as to what they like, where they're from, things of interest. You have none. So yea, walks like a duck, quakes like a duck, I'm guessing your a duck!

Default Get a grip!!!! This is not way to welcome a new memeber

First of all I am not a duck!!!
As I stated before I am not soliciting for any company and if you read my post completely you would see that I am also asking for advice......
Since I am a new user and this is my first post... I am offended by your comments and your accusations. I thought these discussions was developed to help future brides not to accuse them of being fake or soliciting business.
So justinmary if you do not have any GOOD advice I would appreciate you not responding to any of my threads.

Thanks

Montana Bride,

Has anyone every stayed there or planning to go?
