Question Buffet Wedding?

I am confused on how a buffet at a reception would work. Anyone have any details?

We had a buffet. Typically the Bride and Groom, wedding party and parents enter the line 1st then you can either have tables excused by the DJ or just let people wing it to get in line for themselves. It probably depends on how big a wedding you are planning.
We had about 60 and let people wing it

A buffet at a wedding works really well (sorry, couldn't resist that!)

Welcome to Pash, BTW

We had a buffet, too, and meant to have people eat while we took pictures, but they waited for us(we only took about 15 minutes -- pretty informal),. After we went, then everyone else went randomly, but there was only about 25 total. For a larger reception I would suggest having the DJ tell which tables to go then or have some one "official" go to each table. One wedding I went to they played a game where they asked a question about the bride and groom and whichever table answered forst with the right answer(you had to raise your hand or stand up, first) got to go to the buffet. This works well if the buffet is not in same room as you(this was at a country club and the buffet was on the terrace). My complaint at most weddings i've been to is I've been at a table next to the buffet and had to go last. that is really hard when you are smelling the food and getting hungry and have to watch everyone else first. I suggest letting the table closest go first.

I was at a wedding this past weekend with a buffet and it was fine, but there were about 120 people there. After the bride and groom went, there wasn't any order to the tables and I ended up standing in line for almost 30 minutes. (I have a really bad back and had on high-heels b/c I was in the wedding. I'm sure I would complain more about that than someone else.) So my advice is to be sure it's ordered, let one table go at a time so no one is standing around for too long holding a hot plate.

We had a buffet and the dj accepted bribes from the tables as to who was released next.... he was a friend of michaels and the groomsmen so he made fun of everyone at the tables as he excused them...

FallBride had a buffet and the place made the wedding parties plate and gave it to them then let one table at a time go. It went really well!

Default Worked for us

We had a buffet wedding with over 100 people. My husband and I cut the cake first thing, drank punch together and then got our food. The wedding guests followed.
At my sister-in-laws wedding this past August she had a buffet reception as well with over 200 people! The bride, groom & wedding party was served at the head table while the guests went through a buffet line. It worked out well and we had such yummy food!

We had a buffet at our wedding for about 110 people, and it worked out really well. The line for the buffet actually ended up winding right past our table, so after we finished eating (since we went first) we got to talk to all of our family and friends who were waiting in line. It worked out really well for us, and our buffet was double sided (people could serve themselves from both sides of the table) so it maybe took 15 minutes for everyone to get through the line.

We are having a buffet, the bridal party will all have table service though and the rest will need to queue up and get theres, but we will definitely have tables announced when they can go up to get their food rather than having people queuing for ages!

We were going to have table service but it would have been twice the price!

We are having a buffet at ours too. I have been to two weddings this year that used buffets, and both allowed thewedding party to go fisrt, then it was a free for all for the rest of the guests. One worked well since there were only about 125 poeple attending, it really wasn't that bad. The other was outrageous, there were 300 people attending and it was a cluster mess. So I would say think of it in terms of how many people are attending.
