I am meeting with a florist in a week and a half and I have NO idea what is normal to spend on flowers. I want a lot of flowers at the reception, but very simple decorations at the ceremony and there are only three bridesmaids/groomsmen and my bouquet. How much did you guys spend/are you spending on flowers, what kind, and how many flowers?

I'd be interested in this info too...as far as I can tell (from casual reading but no real research), flowers are just mucking expensive, especially bouquets.

I am spending just under $750 for mine. We will have 2 medium sized displays for the church (which we will then transport to the reception site for double duty). There will be 6 pew bows (ribbon and greenery only), my bouquet (small cascade), 3 BM bouquets (two flowers with greenery), 1 FH boutennier (sp?), 10 other boutenniers, 4 coursages, petals for the FG and for tossing, ivy for reception tables, and a few flowers for my, the BMs' and the FG's hair.

I saved some money by going with Lisianthus (off-white to go with my ivory dress) as my main flower instead of Roses. Lisianthus looks like a garden rose, not the tea rose that is so common, but is heartier, so it costs less to grow. My accent flowers will be Blue Delphinium and Bouvardia. The greenery will be English (small-leaved) Ivy and Plumosa (an airy fern).

If you are crafty at all, I would suggest doing the pew bows yourself. My florist is charging $17.50 each, while the cost of the supplies is probably only about $7 each at most.

I'm trying to recall what I'm all getting for my money, but we are spending about $1,200 for flowers. That includes my bouquet, 4 BM bouquets, 2 mom corsages, 8 boutinierres, 10 sets of flowers (don't remember what they're called) for the ends of the rows of seats, lots of flowers to decorate the indoor gazebo to look "gardeny" since we really wanted an ourdoor wedding. There will also be 2 sprays up at the front also which I believe will be transfered to the reception. **Note to self, double check that** We will also have centerpieces on each table, but small. None of that really tall large stuff. And then also we'll have decorations for the signing table and cake table. For all that we're getting we were very happy with the price. Like I said, I really wanted an outdoor wedding, so I got lots and lots of flowers and greenery. Oh, and my flowers will be roses, liseanthis (sp?), freesia, stephanotis, hyacinths. I know there are other flowers, but it was all very overwhelming! I loved her past work and I'm trusting her judgement. She got a very good feeling for what I wanted, so hopefully it will work out....

Just an idea:
I went to a whole sale floral shop and bought he flowers for under $200, then I had a friend of mine who used to be a florist put them all together. I had me, 3 bridesmaids, 4 flower girls, and a junior bridesmaid, then all of the guys flower things and we had an abundance of flowers left over. Food for thought...utilize everyone you know

I'm spending about $1,800 for flowers and for NYC that is a really tight tight budget. No flowers at the church as the interior is beautiful just on its own (plus they have all these rules because it is such an old church). For reception, having 10 centerpieces, loads of candles, a large arrangement in the foyer and small bud vase arrangements for 7 cocktail tables. Will have bouqets for 3 girls, boutonnieres for 7 men and 2 pin on corsages for MOB and MOG.

To save money it is easy to do simple centerpieces on your own rather than having the florist do them. You can purchase the flowers from the florist then do floating blossoms or a couple of flowers in a vase tied with ribbon. When you have the florist do the centerpieces, in most cases, you are charged for the containers. You can purchase them yourself at a crafts store less expensively than you can get them from the florist. If you put your money into the bouquets, bouts, and corsages, that is what will appear in your wedding photos and you will have those memories. Your guests won't care whether you spend $5 per centerpiece or $50 per centerpiece, as long as there is something on the table.

I'm not using flowers for my center pieces but I am going to try and make my own bouquets. It can't be too hard to do a hand tied bouquet. Besides, flowers are so beutiful on their own, I'd have to try real hard to make them look bad.

Our flowers cost $525. This includes
- bridal bouquet
- 3 attendants' bouquets
- 4 corsages
- 9 boutonnieres
- 15 dozen ivory roses (I'm doing my own centrepieces the day before the wedding - rehearsal dinner is the night before that so I'll have plenty of time - haha, right)
All flowers are ivory roses with nothing else (I like things simple) and my colours are black and ivory (black BM dressses) so the idea is to have it all look simple, but elegant. Since the church is old and beautiful - gorgeous architecture and stained glass, we've decided to save money there by not having flowers. Like other suggestions, above, I bought 15 clear glass, low, rectangular vases for $4 each and I'll fill all of them with a dozen ivory roses and salal (greenery) low enough that guests can see over them. For the head table someone also suggested a neat thing is to put empty vases (but with water) out on the table and the bride and bidesmaids can put their bouquets in there for dinner, instantly adding a lot of flowers to the table, so I'm going to try that (the table cloths will be black so I think it'll look nice). Anyway, I'll let everyone know how well it worked in a month!

We did the same thing. I made my bouquet and the attendants (MOH + 2 BM's) and the toss bouquet using silk flowers and conch shell holders (the toss was hand-tied). I also made the centerpieces by filling a shallow glass bowl with sand, shells (including a giant clam shell with the table's name written on it) and dried bear grass (closest I could get to dune grass) - no flowers. Decorations were minimal - we already had a nice bay view I can't compete with, so we set large seashells and votives on a mantle.

Well, I met with the lady doing my personal flowers on Monday, and she sent me a proposal, which I'm happy with.

My bouquet--"Densely flowered, all white, domed nosegay of mini-callas, roses and stock with collar of ti leaves. Stems will be finished with ivory satin ribbon." $150 (which, because of the callas, was a little more than I was originally thinking, but I LOVE the callas). And the ti leaves are these gorgeous, wide, dark green glossy leaves--I love them too!

4 adult attendants bouquets @ $55 = $220
4 jr. maids @ $35 = $105
7 corsages @ $20 = $140 (several important women!)
10 bouts @ $11 = $110

Total $725.

I just can't see spending a lot of money on flowers... I found a wonderful woman who does real or fake - and she did ALL the bouquets I needed for $425. She used white (fake) roses for the bouqets and they were stunning. You couldn't tell they weren't real flowers. There were 9 bouquets needed, including me and the flower girl.

I asked her to use real white roses for the boutenniers - there were 8 of those, and then 3 wrist corsages for Mom's and Grandma, also real.

We didn't need any flowers for the ceremony or reception because the place is/was stunning on its own. I just didn't see the point of spending that kind of money.

In the last five weddings I've been to, I couldn't tell you what kind or color of flowers were used for anything at all. For my wedding, I've actually quizzed people to see what they recall. The only things they remembered were the ceremony, the music, the open bar and the amazing food.

Do you have any photos of your wedding? I don't remember ever seeing any (pretty sure you got married before I joined though, so that's prolly why)

We don't have any other flowers, because our wedding is the day before advent starts and there are stricter floral requirements (basically, minimalist and white--which is what I would've wanted anyway) so they said if we were okay with using what they wanted we wouldn't have to pay for them. Umm...SURE! And we're not using any flowers at the reception--candle centerpieces and a couple big baskets of holly and evergreen (that we're getting from friends). So I was fine with paying that much for the personal flowers, because I really liked what we came up with. We had budgeted $1000 for flowers before we knew we weren't going to be paying for the church ones, so technically, although it's a bit more than I intended for the personal flowers, we're under budget!

Here is a pic of me and one of my BMs - actually she's the one who just got engaged!

You can see the bouquet against her dress pretty well.

ETA: Sorry it's so huge! I can't figure out how to make it smaller!

your wedding budget should be 8-12% of your total budget for your wedding.
Flowers may seem an expensive part of your wedding, but look at it this way. They set the tone for the entire wedding and you spend a lot of money on a photographer and what is in all your pictures? Your flowers and they are there forever.

Aww thank you! It's been a long while since I've posted wedding pics or told "the story". Maybe tomorrow morning with my coffee.
