scrapbook!
i got this idea in my head and now i'm pretty convinced that it'd be really neat. that instead of a photo album of our wedding and our trip, we do a scrapbook, with a lot of behind the scenes photos as well as the usual wedding photos, and odds and ends saved from both, like an invitation, flowers from the leis/bouqet etc.
only problem is that i have no idea how to make a scrapbook, and make it not look like a 6 year old put it together.
anyone have any tips, websites etc?

For our engagement gift my mom made us a scrap book. When I get home I will take pics and post them (hopefully it works) Its gorgeous, She didn't know how to do it when she started either. It's exactly how u explained it though!
I believe she gets all of her stuff through Creative Memories? Hmmmm, I will talk to her at lunch here and I will post again! Its a great idea, and it's unique!

My wedding album is a scrapbook. I know that for those who've never made a scrapbook, it seems like a daunting task. BUT - They are a lot easier to make than you think.
If you don't know how to get started but you don't want to spend a ton of money on how-to books, you can either check out scrapbooking books from the library, or you can attend a class at a local scrapbook store.
My sister puts it like this: She is one of the most uncreative people on the face of the planet. If she can make an album (and she can), then ANYONE can do it.

One more thing:
While I will purchase scrapbook supplies such as paper, stickers, die-cuts, etc., from anywhere, I will only purchase my albums, page protectors, etc., from Creative Memories. They have a lifetime guarantee on their albums. You pay a little more, but it's worth it in terms of the quality of what you're receiving.

Since we fired our photographer the day before our wedding I now have a scrapbook instead. I love it. My Mom did most of the work since I could never figure out what I wanted or how to cut pictures. I include everything starting after our engagement. I have pics of dress shopping, bridal showers, any thing and everything.
I say start picking out things you want to put in then organize it in the order you want. I did it so the wedding part was last since I wanted it in order it happened. Maybe I can take a few pics of it if you like. PM me if you do and I will get it done as soon as I can depending on when DC decides to arrive.

That's a great idea! I got into scrapbooking when I started doing our wedding album. It's a LOT of fun and so much fun to look at later. I think when you add mementos from the wedding and wedding planning they help to bring back all of the memories of your wedding. My mom had a scrapbook that she made when she was first married. At that time scrapbooking wasn't nearly as popular as it is now. I absolutely loved looking at that album! She included candy wrappers or little tokens Dad had given her when they were dating! So a wedding album can also be a great way to show your wedding to your future kids. I know my daughter really enjoys looking at my scrapbooks with me.
A nice advantage to doing a scrapbook over an album is you can put anything in it you want. Like, if you want to save certain wedding cards that were really meaningful to you, you can just make a pocket on one of the pages and put the cards in it to look at later. Pockets come in handy for all sorts of items that you'd like to save but that don't look very lovely on the page. Then you can decorate the pocket to make it look nice.
All of the scrapbook supplies available today make it easy to scrapbook. I get most of my supplies at the craft store. One of my favorite tools is a paper trimmer. I use it constantly to cut paper and pictures. However, you don't have to buy a lot of products to make a nice looking scrapbook. The pictures and mementos will be the greatest thing. You can do a lot with paper and stickers. I also use my computer to write out headers and text, but if you want to make it more personal looking you can just write in your own handwriting.
One thing I recommend though is scrapbooking some other pictures first before you do your wedding ones. You'll see your skill progress as you practice and you'll get a better idea of what you want the pages to look like. I waited to do mine and I'm so glad I did. It's not that I got more complicated with my scrapbooking but just figured out how I like things.
You'll do great! Have fun!

In my album, I included pix of me and my husband as kids (one page for each of us), pictures of us as a couple, etc. I also included the story of how we met, how we got engaged, etc. My goal in putting together my album was that my grandkids can look at that album and know my story, even if I'm not alive to tell it.

wow that's really nice. thanks for the piccies
scrapbooking is huge in my area, the dollar stores carry a ton of stuff
luckily we sell books where i work, we have a few about scrapbooking, so i can just go through them on my lunch breaks and take notes without actually buying them lol
my FH is into mountain biking, i really want to do one of his biking pics to give him, maybe i'll do that first for practice and give it to him for christmas. since the wedding is in february we agreed not to spend much on anyone for christmas to save money for wedding stuff. so i'll just make him that instead of buying a gift
and instead of a typical guestbook i was going to use a photo album and just put paper in it, maybe i'll use a scrapbooking album and then use the same album for my scrapbook afterwards. if i put everything up to the wedding in first people can look through it when they go to sign. we've been together almost a decade, we have a lot of photos to put in there!
how much does it cost on average to make one anyway?
thanks for the tips and encouragement all

I think that is very hard to say since it kind of depends on how fancy you get. From the looks of it that was a lot of Creative Memories (CM) stuff in the pics posted. CM stuff can get pretty expensive.
Basically, the fancier you make things the more expensive it becomes.

Head out to a local craft store, like AC Moore or Michaels and look for a kit. Lots of times there are "love" or "wedding" themed ones. They're usually simple and relatively cost effective.
I did scrapbooks for both of the vacations Tom and I have taken, one I made from scratch and one I purchased already made. I spent less on the premade one and it DOES look a bit nicer, plus I was short on time this year since I'm planning a wedding now. I will try to snap some pictures of them and get them up here for you to see.
