I would search through posts on here and on the old Bliss site. Go to the very first post in this Jewelry area. You should see a thread for "Old Jewelry Thread", or something like that. Then search for Titanium rings. It's been discussed a lot, so if you have trouble finding the old posts, let me know and I'll dig them up for you.

Anyone know how the titanium wears? My FH was interested in doing that for his ring but I don't know anything about it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
My husband has a titanium wedding band. I couldn't tell you how it wears, though, because he doesn't wear it! It looks great, but he's only worn it a handful of times. From what I understand, titanium rings are HIGHLY durable and scratch/wear resistant.
Titanium looks like platinum, but is lighter-weight (and cheaper) than platinum. It can be a good option for people who don't like wearing jewelry because of the feel of it on their fingers.
The downsides of titanium (at least from what I've heard) is that a) you cannot resize the ring once it's been made and b) if a person were to have an injury that required cutting of the ring, the ring cannot be cut and the person's finger would have to be removed.
Of course, since my husband RARELY wears his (it was more for show during the ceremony), we haven't experienced any of these issues.
-----------------------
This is true. Josh and I looked into getting him a titanium band, but you cannot cut them. I DO NOT recommend the titanium bands if your FH is always out tinkering with tools or cars or anything like that because if something should happen, you lose the finger!
The ring CAN be resized but only a half size, from what the guy at Zales told us.
It is cheaper and is supposed to wear better. It doesn't show scratches like gold or platnium.
------------------------
Wow! Didn't realize it couldn't be cut! Well, FH isn't much of "fix-it" guy so I doubt we'd ever have to worry about having to cut it off for some reason.
-------------------------
My FH isn't either but you never know when some emergency will crop up. We just weren't willing to risk it. But, obviously, many people do, and I'm sure most of them do not lose their fingers!
------------------------
Richy's a mechanic, he will not be wearing a wedding band to work no matter what the material. He knows of a few guys who've lost fingers at work because of them.
Titanium is one of the most tough, durable metals around, though, by the way. I think it's really attractive too, different, unique.
--------------------------------------
yeah, I really like titanium too, and there are very cool looking ring designs in it. I'd never want DH to wear a ring made of titanium b/c he can be a klutz... but I'd probably get one. We were watching a show on PBS last night called Globetrekkertv and a couple were being interviewed about traveling in a certain part of Africa, they said it's dangerous for people to wear jewelry there. And I told DH that I wouldn't want to wear my real wedding band (or e-ring) if/when we go on a mission trip, that I'd just want to get a fake band to wear... titanium would be perfect for that.
Of course, someone prone to anaphylactic shock would probably want to stay away from titanium also.
-----------------------------------------
i'm getting my fh a titanium band b/cs he's a goalie in soccer, and b/cs of the mitts, a regular metal would "squish" his hands more--not to mention how light-weight it feels. as suzy said, our jeweller said it could also be sized down a 1/2 size, but not up a 1/2 size, but unlike what you guys have said, he told us that in most emergency cases, the ring can be cut off by a jeweller and most er rooms???? so, i am not too worried, but i'll just make sure rickey takes off his ring when he's fixing the cars! i agree w/ cru5h, they're very attractive rings!!

I feel stupid for even posting this but can someone tell me if there is truth to this...I know titanium can't be sized, but now I have heard that if you injure the finger and it swells, it is not possible to cut it off and the ring wearer will have to get the finger amputated. This sounds so ridiculous, it can't be true, can it??
-----------------------------------
I remember hearing something about that a while back, and did a quick search on google in the groups section and came up with this answer: It's not true. I found a few articles and replies from EMT's and doctors that said they tested their ring cutters with some titanium and it cut through it just fine. Here's one of the links that I used:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...edu%26rnum%3D8
Kind of a long link, but it should bring up a thread of conversation and you can peruse it to get a general idea. I used to work in an emergency room when I was in the military, and rarely saw any finger amputations. Most people didn't hurt the finger with the rings on it. But, any ring will tear your finger up if it catches on something. As far as the information I read, it's not a problem to have the titanium rings. Of course, there may be something that I missed somewhere. If someone else has information and where it can be found to a different answer, I'd be interested in it, too. Thanks.
-----------------------------------
My husband has a titanium wedding band. I did some checking before I bought it, and I never heard anything about the impossibility of cutting off a titanium ring if necessary.
This must be one of those urban legends!
------------------------------
I think what you've heard is that titanium is one of the strongest metals you can use...its very durable and wont dent like gold/white gold. They use it in things like aeroplanes and medical plates for repairing bones etc. It isnt sposed to break easily which is why they use it internally but it can be cut/break. My father shattered his wrist and had a titanium rod inserted but it broke somehow. So, to cut a long story short, I dont think it should be a problem should it have to be removed. My fiance is getting a titanium ring as well. Hope I helped and you didnt fall asleep listening to me!

i'm the last poster in the first cut/pasted section from the old site... but just thought i'd throw in that my dh LOVES his band. he takes it off if he has to work on someone's car, and now takes it off for soccer (tho that's one of the reasons i bought it, lol), but our jewelry guy said it can be cut through, and that it could be sized down 1/2 size, so you definitely want to know his measurement! it looks beautiful!

Can a Titanium ring be cut off?
Yes! Please be aware that in any situation where it might become necessary to cut off a Titanium ring - for instance excessive weight gain, hand injury, etc., - cutting through titanium will be more difficult than cutting through gold or platinum. However, it can still be done. In our own jewelry shop, we used a separating disc and flexible shaft tool-items commonly found in nearly all jewelry shops that work with gold, silver, and platinum--to cut through one of our 5mm domed and comfort fit titanium rings. Cutting it all the way through took only 20 seconds. Next, we contacted our local hospital emergency room and asked if they were equipped to cut off a titanium ring in an emergency. Most hospital emergency rooms are prepared to handle almost anything, and ours assured us that it would be no problem for them.
During our 30+ years of jewelry repair experience, we've only seen a dozen or so rings that have been cut off in hospital emergency rooms, and in most of those cases the rings had been bent out-of-round and were putting painful pressure on the finger. Titanium rings are less likely to crush or bend out-of-round, so if you shut your hand in a car door or drop a heavy object on it, it might be safer to be wearing a titanium ring than a precious metal band! Nonetheless, if you ever need your Titanium ring cut off, just contact a local jeweler that uses separating discs. Please check with your local medical facility if you have concerns.

My husband has a titanium ring. He is not a ring person so he rarely wears it. I bought it because I wanted it to look like platinum (which is what my ring is made from), but I didn't want to spend that kind of money on a ring he'd rarely wear. The titanium ring cost about 1/4 of a similar ring made from platinum, and you can't tell the difference.

Yeah, Iam getting really excited to go and look. I put away 500.00 for his ring, Iam hoping thats enough! From what I have seen on the internet it should be more than enough, unless he wants diamonds in it (Which he doesn't)
Iam so glad I have heard good things about titanium, it's really what Dave wants!

That should be MORE than enough. When I got my husband's wedding ring (granted it was five years ago), the platinum ring that I was going to buy him retailed at a little over $500. The titanium ring I ended up getting him cost me about $140. My husband's ring doesn't have any diamonds in it, either.

What did you ladies buy your man or are you buying your man for a wedding gift? I have heard alot of my girlfriends say they will buy a fancy watch or something, Dave doesn't wear watches. Everything is by the seat of his pants!
Ideas? Suggestions?
Thanks for all the tips on the titanium rings! The money left over from tghe 500 will go towards his wedding gift!

I didn't get my husband anything; the wedding was my gift to him (since I paid for the bulk of it myself and planned the bulk of it myself).

Jake wants a Titanium ring. I am happy to read that they are able to be cut off. Jake works for Harley Davidson, he doesnt work directly on the bikes but he is a manager and sometimes has to help out. I am also excited to read that they wont scratch or dent. I want a titanium ring! They should make engagement rings and wedding bands out of titanium for ladies!!

Mo's wedding band is titanium too, but he works in a lab & doesn't do any diy so I wasn't too worried!
Here's a wee photo of it (it has black enamel inlay)
ETA: not the one on his thumb, that is steel!
