Hi all, I'm new to the forum, but I wanted to find some beauty tips. Can anyone recommend a good face wash? I've been using the grocery store brands, but now that I'm getting married, I'd like to upgrade a bit. I do spend money on good products for my face, like the Hydroderm serum for wrinkles. This stuff is awesome. Here's the link: http://hydroderm.us. a really nice cream for puffy eyes (sorry, I forget the name of it), and good make-up from MAC. If you know of any good facial wash though, let me know what's good out there. thanx!

The funny thing for me is, the really expensive department store brands irritate my skin terribly! The only things that seem to be okay on my skin is the cheap drugstore stuff, both makeup and skincare products. I guess that's good cuz it's easier on my wallet. I use the Olay Daily facials (the ones in the black box only) and the entire line of Olay Regenerist. Honestly, it really does make a difference. I was getting a little frown line in between my eyebrows, and it completely disappeared - really, it's GONE, no trace of it at all. Generally I would find a product and use it, but within a few weeks or a couple of months, it would begin to irritate my skin. I have been on the Olay face wash for about 2 years, and using the Regenertist stuff for about a year. It's awesome. Seriously, when I do the night treatment, in the morning when I get up, my skin looks flawless without makeup. Even the more expensive treatments didn't make that much of a difference for me. As for makeup, I am a Maybelline/Cover Girl/Physician's Formula user. I can't stand anything with fragrance in it, and most of their stuff is either fragrance-free or have very little fragrance. I am also a big fan of Bonnie Bell LipLites. The few MAC lipsticks I have tried all made my lips get chapped and peely a couple of days later. Really gross!

I use the Neutrogena liquid face soap, and I like it. My face seems to be sensitive, and this stuff is pretty mild. and it's not crazy expensive either.

Bebe, thanks for all the helpful info on Olay. I may have to try the Regenerist stuff. I'm starting to notice the crows feet!

I don't really have a skin-care system or anything... I just use St. Ives Apricot face scrub when I'm in the shower - it makes my skin feel more alive.

That's exactly what I use, Maggie.

FH uses St. Ives apricot scrub too - he loves it. I try to get him to use my foo-foo stuff, and he won't go for it other than the moisturizer.

I have very oily skin and tend to have break outs so I have been using Proactiv Solution. It really works. Its kinda expensive though. They send you face wash, toner, and repairing lotion every 8 weeks and its about $45 each time.

I've been using Mary Kay for a couple of years now. Since I started, I haven't had any trouble with breakouts. They were previously a problem for me. Though I'm 27 now, so that could just be an aging thing, I keep reading about the skin composition changing between 24 and 30. I do like their 3-in-1 cleanser (prefer the 'lotion' to the 'bar' because the little blue scrubby balls seem to work better for exfoliation with the lotion).

One of my friends says great things about the Artistry product line, too. But, I haven't tried it myself yet.

Mary Kay stuff makes me break out and I swear by all Oil of Olay products. They have a new face wash now and it's $5.99 a tube. I've been using the same tube for about 5 months now so it will last you a while. It's really gentle.

I love the Apricot scrub too but I use that on my body, it's too much for face.

I've tried the Artistry products and they worked great (my skin is normal to oily) but after a few years i needed a boost so for the past few months i've been using C.O. Bigelow, a line that Bath & Body Works now carries.

I've noticed my pores have shrunk drastically and my skin has been alot smoother so now i have to go buy a new foundation that offers less coverage than my maximum coverage one...and no i'm not using my selling skills cuz i work there lol, the stuff is really good and the best thing about BBW is that you can buy and try it for a few days, if you dont like it, they have 100% money back guarantee (with receipt, exchange without receipt) with no questions asked and no timeframe, so you pretty much have nothing to lose.

if you need me to recommend stuff according to your skin type, email me and ill help you out. Shake.arakelian@lacdc.org

Oh yes, that apricot scrub is great! I use that sometimes too for a break from my regular stuff. My FH uses the medicated version (for acne) and really likes it too!

I use passion fruit cleanser from the Body Shop, and my FH used Nivea foaming cleanser for men. I often get compliments on my skin, so it's working well. I rarely ever get pimples anymore, though that could be from growing up.

munchkin, is the fruit cleanser acidic? That's my biggest problem with facial cleaners, I feel like my face is peeling off after I use. I have noticed that stuff though and may give it a shot.

The medicated version of the apricot face scrub is the one I use, too. I've never had a huge acne problem (even when I was a teenager), but I do have oily skin, and now I rarely ever get any pimples.

I'm allergic to the apricot scrub stuff which really stinks because I love the smell of it. I have an extreme oil problem on my face, but I have found that L'Oreal Pure Zone works really well. It has minimezed my outbreaks tremendously--which I too have always had a big prolem with. It has mini blue beads in it which makes my face feel really clean after washing.
As I'm getting older and semi-more professional, I don't feel that I can get away with wearing a lot of makeup. I feel fake and it makes me feel like I am drawing attention to my face (which when I was younger, I could get away with since I spent a lot of time in the clubs). Does anyone have any suggestions on some kind of pore minimizer/black head minimizer, that covers but looks like you don't hardly have anything on? I'd really appreciate it!
Have a wonderful day!!

I use CoverGirl Trublend make-up. It evens out my skin tone without making me look "made-up."

I have a hard time with liquid foundation - same sensitive skin problem! I use Cover Girl Smoothers tinted moisturizer over my regular moisturizer (once it's soaked in for a couple of minutes) and Maybelline Pure Stay Powder. I have extreme combination skin - oily t-zone, and the dry parts can get REALLY dry. I have been using this combo of products for a couple of years and it is still working for me. My absolute favorite mascara is Maybelline Full and Soft. I am not big into a lot of makeup either - on most days you get mascara and lipstick or gloss from me.

Have you tried the biore face strips? those things hurt!!! But they work great, its kinda gross seeing what comes out of your face but then its cool cuz you know your face is clean. lol

Those Biore strips hurt like a MOTHER!!! My friend who sold Mary Kay took me to a facial workshop thingie, and when I used the cream cleanser to take off my makeup at the table (no mirror in sight, just the cleanser and tissue) I knew something was wrong when I saw the look of horror on my friends face. We went into the bathroom because she said I should proabbly rinse it off with water, and when I looked in the mirror in the bathroom, my skin was obviously very angry with me! LOL It was just all bright red and blotchy. Within 5 minutes it really started to burn, it was awful! I know that some folks swear by Mary Kay, but man, MK products do not like me at all!

Thanks blue, but the one experience I had with MK was more than enough to last a lifetime! I know they have great skincare and cosmetics because I know several people who love MK and they always look great, I just have super sensitive skin, and whatever ingredients they use, my skin can't tolerate. I am not knocking MK at all, I just know it doesn't work for me.

I love mary kay as well. i decided to try it so my skin would be clear for my wedding and it worked wonders so far. the miracle set is amazing and they recently came out with the microdermabrasion sets which help with scaring, lines, wrinkles, and smoothness. they truly have a skin care line for all skin types and they changed the sets in jan. for those who used to be allergic to it, now its personalized for everyone. and on the websites they have virtual bridal makeovers for the bride and wedding party so its worth checking out. i have a friend who is a consultant and i know she would be willing to help anyone out with their wedding or just skin care in general.

HEY I USE ST IVES APRICOT SCRUB TOO ! THE THING IS THOUGH I AM 24 YO AND I JUST WITHIN THE PAST 3 MONTHS HAVE DEVELOPED REALLY OILY SKIN AND BREAKOUTS ESPECIALLY A WEEK OR TWO BEFORE MY PERIOD. I USED TO USE JUST SOAP AND WATER. NOW THAT JUST MAKES IT WORSE. I DON'T GET IT I DONT WANT TO SPEND ALL THAT MONEY ON PROACTIVE ALTHOUGH I HEAR IT WORKS WONDERS. (I AM PAYING FOR A WEDDING AND A HOUSE YA KNOW ) ALSO ABOUT MAKEUP. I USE MAYBELLINE DREAM MATTE MOUSSE IN NUDE. IT IS AMAZING... IT COVERS UP WITHOUT MAKING U LOOK ALL DONE UP. IT'S SHEER AND EASY TO USE. LOVE IT !!

Jesse - I will have to give that a shot, I love Maybelline! I usually don't do foundtation, but sometimes I need a bit more coverage, and it would be good to have something like that.

About oily skin - I have always had oily skin, just in the past few years it has changed to combination (age, I guess.) Most people feel that with oily skin you have to wash and wash and try to dry it out. If you do this, it actually will have the opposite effect! Your skin will jump in and try to compensate for all of the lost moisture, and it will just get oilier. Be sure to use products formulated for oily skin, but do not skip the moisturizer! Just use an oil free moisturizer with sunscreen. Oil of Olay has a really good oil-free moisturizer. I used to think people were crazy when they said to still moisturize with my oily skin, but it really does work. There will be an adjustment period for your skin, so it could possibly be more oily for a week or so, but it will even out. The blessing in disguise with oily skin is, you are generally less prone to wrinkles as you get older, as opposed to someone who has dry skin. I hated my oily skin when I was younger, but am counting my blessings now!

And as far as makeup goes - I see a lot of people touching up their makeup and powder when they get shiny. And one of the worst things you can do is put more powder on over your shine! Blot the excess oil off with those oil absorbing sheets first, or tissue. Putting more powder on before blotting just helps seal those impurities right back into your skin.

Jessesgirl,
You know, I tried proactiv solution and it didn't work for me. Someone on the knot suggested this stuff called Acne Free, it's the cheap version of proactiv, and I love it! It is $15 at Wal-Mart and it works great, I think it is better than proactiv. Maybe you could give it a try .

I use Proactiv and recommended my brother use the similar stuff at WalMart. It works great for him, and his is the tough 17 year old boy acne! He has had clear skin for about 2-3 months now. I think I am going to try it since its cheaper.

to reply to the combination oily gal earlier, MK has a great skin care line devoted just to those sorts of skin types. it has a cleanser and moisturizer which absorbs oils and controls shine; and the other gal was right about not wiping your face with toilet paper or applying powder over shine, it is very bad for your skin to push dirt and grease back into your pores. a good 100% linen paper acts as a magnet for absorbing oils.
another thing i found for wedding photos and such is that you don't want to have a shine to your face so getting a good oil mattifier is also a smart investment, something to absorb the oil before it can shine through your makeup.

THANKS LADIES !! I HAVE HEARD ABOUT THE STUFF AT WAL MART BUT NEVER KNEW THE NAME. THANKS I WILL HAVE TO TRY THAT. AND BEBE I NEVER KNEW THAT ABOUT OILY SKIN, I WASH MY FACE TWICE A DAY AND USE TONER BOTH TIMES, MAYBE THAT IS DRYING IT OUT TOO MUCH.....I'LL LET U KNOW.

Washing your face too much is murder on your skin! It really creates a bad cycle. My dermatologist recommended I drink more water and fix my cleansing routine. I like the Skinceuticals products such as the Emollience. That is a great cream for dry skin and recommended for the winter. http://www.skinceuticals.moneybackguarantee.us

For blackheads msjgrad, I found this tool that will safely extract blackheads without scarring or causing an infection. I haven't used it, but it makes sense. There are more and more of these "at home" tools now. Has anyone used them? http://www.skinrxclinic.com/blackhead-pimple-kit.htm
