scratching chin dye dress

I really loved my wedding dress (was a very simple one). This one -
http://www.alfredsungdresses.com/ind...ses&style=D304

Would it be weird (or even - could I) dye my dress black so that I could wear it again. Say to a Chrismas party or New Years eve party? Click black swatch in the link above to see what it would look like.

1) Is this considered bad luck or bad ettiquite?

2) Can you get a dress dyed??

I don't know about luck or ettiquette but it sure seems practical.
However I think I'd see if I could get it done professionally because some fabrics can be difficult to dye and an entire garment usually has multiple fabrics. Also I dyed a dress once and everything but the stitching(thread) took the color so it looked really odd. Something like a crinoline the stitching doesn't matter so much but on a dress it's quite a big deal.

I think that would be a great idea and a great way to wear your wedding dress again. I also agree that you should try to get it done professionally, just in case.

I don't see anything wrong with it - just make sure you have a professional do it who knows what he/she's doing so you don't end up with just a big mess.

I say go for it but are you prepared in case it doesn't work out like you wanted or intended? Are you prepared for a sort of black (and whatever else it turns out) wedding dress?

I think it's fine. Will people recognize it as your wedding dress, though? It's pretty unique and you might get a lot of comments.

Otherwise, I'd go for it. The dress is gorgeous, I would want to wear it all the time!

Well, I did some online research and found that garment dying companies will not dye anything unless it is made from natural fibers (silk, cotton etc.) and can be washed (not drycleaned). My dress fails in both catagories boo!

Oh well, do you think I can wear an Ivory dress with dark brown dirty bottom to any parties? I could splash some red on it and go as Carrie for Halloween JKing of course.

Natural fibers take dye well. Some artificial fibers don't take it as well. That's why the pros are reluctant to do it. They can't guarantee a good result, but that doesn't mean you'll necessarily end up with a bad result.

Do it yourself. If it doesn't look right, what have you lost? Will you ever wear the dress again in it's current state?

I sometimes use dark dye colors on garments to cover stains. Usually it's not a problem. I've even dyed some artificial fibers. The worst result I've had is that a garment came out grey instead of black. I still was able to wear it, and the stain wasn't visible.

You might have the dress professionally cleaned before putting it in the dye bath. Stained fabric might not take the dye evenly.

I was thinking maybe hem it up to about knee length-little higher, little lower-what ever you prefer, but then I looked at the picture again and I'm not sure that would look ok. I'm weary about dying it though, it might ruin the dress. Good luck with it!

I'll say that if you really want to take the risk, go ahead and do it. If no, I don't think that an Ivory dress is going to look bad. It depends and how you feel of wearing your wedding dress again. I think is beautiful and I don't see a problem with it.....

Yeah you could easily make that into a rather sexy knee high dress! Go for it! Its all about trying new things.
