Hello All,
I am new here. I have been wondering about wedding favors for reception guests. From what I have read there are plent of people here that will give me some great feedback.
I am just wondering if it is expected to have something for the guests to take home. We are having a very casual reception with BBQ dinner. We will also have a bar. We will provide beer and one signature drink. Full bar will be available for other drinks if desired. I guess my question is since we are having so much at the reception is it rude not to have something for the guests to "take home"?
I thought about something as simple as glass bowls with Hershey's "kisses" and "hugs" with something that says..."Kisses and Hugs from Anna and Jesse"
Thanks for the advice!

I think your idea sounds really cute!

Favors are nice, but not necessary - in fact, if you skip favors, probably no one will notice. I've also heard edible favors are better received than knick-knacks.

I think it sounds cute- or you could go with the jordan almonds.

I think the whole things sounds like a lot of fun! And I agree with what Maggie posted - I love favors that are either useful or edible. Trinkety things just go in the trash. They are still appreciated for the thought, I just don't keep them.

That sounds cute.

Something we did (very simple) was to wrap pieces of gum (I think we used Winterfresh) in wrappers that said "Sticking together from this day forward. Margie and Brad May 1, 2004"

Ha ha yeah I think Wynelle has a point there Marge! BTW, how's your fiance?

Anyways, back to aec's question -favors are not necessary - but yes, edible ones I think are nicer than knick knacks that most people look at and then toss the minute they get home. My FH and I are only going to have favors if we have the bduget for them at the end, and if we do, definitely doing chocolate or something else edible.

Oh and don't mind

Your idea is very cute. I'm going chocolate as well.

I agree with the ladies though. Favors are definitely not necessary. If you want to skip them, go ahead!

It's still a cute idea! LOL I did almost put something in my post about the irony, but I didn't.

e-star, Jerry's doing great. He's been working a lot of hours lately, but at least we're getting some money saved up. We're gonna need it when the baby comes! Thanks for asking.

Favors are nice, but certainly not necessary. I think that if you're going to have them, give out something edible or something useful.

I'm going to do a picture of my FH and I on a card with a thank you poem on the inside. You can print 4x6's at Walmart for under 20 cents and cardstock can be bought and cut into cards rather cheaply too. I want them to have something that will with stand time and everyone loves pictures.

Glad you and Jerry are doing well! Any odd food cravings yet from the pregnancy?

And yes, chocolate was the obvious winner with sugar cookies/jordan almonds coming in second. Non-edible ideas I toyed with but discarded were mini photo frames (could do doluble duty as escort card holders) and mini stand up postcard holders. Also, since I am Asian, thought about chopsticks and chopstick holders but tossed that out as well. Would be neat for couples as they would get a matching pair but not so nice for single guests.

I also agree that something edible is a great idea for favors. Your play on words sounds great with the bowls of hugs and kisses!

I am getting married in 5 weeks (yay!!!) and we did the hugs and kisses for the favors for the guests. We put them in a cute little bag from Michaels and attached a card that said "hugs and kisses from the new Mr. and Mrs." and on the back say "Flow and Matt September 4, 2005" Hope this helps

Since you were considering Asian-style favors, have you considered fortune cookies? You could have them made up with you names & date on the slip inside, along with a quote (maybe a line from "your" song). Anway, just a thought.

On the Asian theme, they also sell favor boxes that look like Chinese-takeout boxes. They're really cute.
