Default My Father-Daughter Dance

I found the perfect Father-Daughter dance to dance to with my dad with at the wedding, the only problem is everytime I hear it, I bust into tears, I get teary eyed just thinking about it. I know it is pathetic. I should be having the same reaction when thinking about the first dance with my husband, but I don't get emotional thinking about that. I don't really get it. Well anyway here is my song:

You kinda have to hear the song to really get it, so I am including a video, ignore the visual part, just listen to the song
(it is not the actual video to the song, I pulled it of of YouTub.com, which is an websight that 'safely' posts independent videos, this was one of them.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrlwmGFyCFc

Artist: HEARTLAND
Song Name: I LOVED HER FIRST

Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there’s nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
and she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
and I’m not gonna stand in your way

Chorus:
But I Loved her first and I held her first
and a place in my heart I’ll always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
and I prayed that she'd find you someday
but it still hard to give her away
I loved her first

How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
and tucked into bed all those nights
and I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time

Chorus:
But I Loved her first and I held her first
and a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
and I prayed that she'd find you someday
but it still hard to give her away
I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I’m going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first…

I just heard this on the radio the other day. Loved it! I wish it had been around when I got married! Although, be happy you're getting it early on, b/c I think it's going to be the next Butterfly Kisses for the Father/Daughter dance.

I love this song. Matt told me it makes him think of what my dad would be saying to him. I think it is the perfect song for father-daughter dances.

That was the song my Father picked for our dance. Every time I heard it I balled... but somehow I made it through the dance WITHOUT crying It's a beautiful song, and is sure to be VERY populare in the next years

Just thought I'd post that Tim McGraw has one out right now too called My Little Girl. It's really good.

Here are the lyrics for that one:
Verse 1:
Gotta hold on easy as I let you go.
Gonna tell you how much I love you, though you think you already know.
I remember I thought you looked like an angel wrapped in pink so soft and warm.
You've had me wrapped around your finger since the day you were born.

Chorus:
Beautiful baby from the outside in.
Chase your dreams but always know the road that'll lead you home again.
Go on, take on this whole world.
But to me you know you'll always be, my little girl.

Verse 2:
When you were in trouble that crooked little smile could melt my heart of stone.
Now look at you, I've turned around and you've almost grown.
Sometimes you're asleep I whisper "I Love You!" in the moonlight at your door.
As I walk away, I hear you say, "Daddy Love You More!".

(Repeat Chorus)

Verse 3:
Someday, some boy will come and ask me for your hand.
But I won't say "yes" to him unless I know, he's the half
that makes you whole, he has a poet's soul, and the heart of a man's man.
I know he'll say that he's in love.
But between you and me. He won't be good enough!

(Repeat Chorus)

I just saw/heard this played as a father/daughter dance at a wedding last week! There wasn't a dry eye in the whole place. How I envy ANY of you whose fathers are still alive!

I think I will cry. I cry every time I hear it now. Hopefully I can make it.

I think I am going to cry on my mother-son dance with my son too. We are using "My Wish" by Rascall Flats. Hopefully Ace will be his usual goofy self and keep me laughing instead of crying

My father passed away 3yrs ago. I am getting married in Oct of 2007. I will not have of course the typical father daughter dance but I still want him very much part of my wedding. I am getting together a slide show of pictures of my dad and myself growing up and then some of my husband to be and it will be played to the song "I Loved Her First" By Heartland. You can still do a lot to have your father there with you.
