Default 5 to 10% discount for airfares!!!!! good....

For those of you that will have OOTs in your wedding I found out that airlines like American, United, Us airways, and Continental will give your OOTs from a 5 to 10% discount on the airfare if you request a meeting discount. Their requirement is that you have at least 10 people. Check it out, might help for some people.

I wasn’t sure if this will go here or in Ads. If it wasn’t supposed to be here, sorry it can be moved to Ads….

I think this is the best place for it. As long as you are not gaining any thing from the sites you post then I spy is good.

Man, you can't pay me to fly right now. Anywhere. For anything.

From working at a travel agency for two years, there are a few more requirements that airlines usually have.

- To get that kind of discount, you usually need to have that large a group all flying together on the same itinerary: out of the same place and into the same place on the same dates.
- The discount is off of their "regular" economy fare which it not always their best priced fare (sometimes it can be $50-100 more), especially if you're near a popular market with a lot of competition. That being said, if you're looking at a smaller airport, sometimes the lowest price is a "regular" econ fare, so you can get a discount there.
- There are pretty specific requirements for when payment is due and some airlines want it on one card (not many anymore).

Airlines are actually shying away from calling fare like this group discounts, as it's really a misnomer. The advantage of these fares is that you have your whole group, travelling together (instead of some booking late and not getting a seat) and sometimes, you actually pay a premium for it.

Not meaning to put a bummer on it... the airlines may have changed the way they do it since I left a year ago... but we got questions about groups a lot and people were usually disappointed.

Took the words right out of my mouth- or off my fingers!! You're better off checking for seat sales and online fares!!

The ones I'm looking into, the people don’t need to have the same itinerary, and they can fly from different airports. Airlines call this option meeting discount. They also offer the group, but that's very unrealistic in my case . I can’t have all my friends and FH’s family flying out from the same airport and having the same itinerary lol, that will be crazy to even think about it…

Before getting the discount, I asked them how the whole thing works, because I was worry that I would get a contract and then not being able to get at least 10 people to fly with their airline. Their response was that they know that I can’t force anybody to buy the tickets with them and that their only thing they count on is pretty much me trying to get at least 10 people. They won’t charge me anything if the quota is not met.

I think this is a good idea something to offer to my OOT, because I’m not attached to anything and is really up to them to use it. It might work or it might not. But the way I see it is that if the option is available why not use it…..

I think that people can look into it, and do some research if they are interested.
