ok, so if i have finally decided to go w/ something homemad for a favor (still leaning towards lemon curd, maybe a passionfruit curd since it sounds so exotic!-just saw the recipe yesterday), and let's say there are a hundred guests to make math easy.... do i actually make a 100 favors, or do i assume many male guests and a few in general will have no interest in such a favor, or does almost every one take a favor home anyway, usually?

You can either make favors for everyone attending, or per couple/household.

I know at my sister-in-laws wedding, she made little candy favors and she made 10 extra, just b/c there were children there and she knew that they would want more than one favor, but in your situation i would make enough for everyone and just assume that everyone is going to take one home, or you could do what Feb-Bride said and make one per houshold/couple, but definatly make enough, not less.

What is a lemon curd?

If it's edible, you should make enough for eeryone.

I generally agree with Maggie, unless you're making large jars of the stuff. Then, you could get away with one jar per household. If you're making those small "sample-size" jars (typically 2 oz.), then I would definitely make one per person.

lillianevi, lemon curd is sooooo good! it is a british spread for toast/scones, and it is kind of like a lemon custard, but don't think pudding-ish... if you like citrus stuff, lemons in particular, you would enjoy it. it almost reminds me of a spreadable version of what makes up the filling part of lemon squares.
and yes, i'll be making them in the little jars, so i'll make enough for everyone... too bad i can't give a virtual taste-test, eh??? lol

and when you say make one for everyone, is that after all (hopefully!!) the guests have rsvp'd and you get a total count? or just assume that everyone invited will come and make favors accordingly?

That sounds really good! I don't know if I am doing any favors. I know I am making truffle and rolling them in some sort ofcolored sugar or something in the wedding colors. but beyond that I have no clue.

That was actually why we set our RSVP date so early. DH was making our favors, and that was time consuming. I was making centerpieces, and I couldn't order bowls or do anything until I knew how many tables, and I wouldn't know that until we did the seating chart, and I couldn't do that until everyone had RSVP'd. DH had already decided to make 60 and see what happened, but we had invite several kids, and I wanted to do something different for them, so I needed RSVP's from their families before I could do that.

Maggie, how much before your date was your RSVP date? I'm still trying to figure that out, because I have the same centerpiece issue you did.

The wedding was September 26, and the RSVP date was August 1. After that, I still have people to track down, but our parents asked relatives, and DH and I only had a few friends each to contact. That didn't take more than a week.

For most weddings, the RSVP deadline is two or three weeks before the wedding. Mine was three weeks before.
