Thought I lost my ring (with pictures of many member's engagement rings)
This is a thread that was started in our old BlissWeddings.com forums by labeadel on 8/18/05.

Oh my Gosh, I had a total freak out moment this morning. I was getting ready to brush my teeth, and usually after that I take my engagement ring off to get into the shower. I always take it off b/c I've heard that the diamond gets more dull if you wear it in the shower. Well, I look down, and my ring isn't there, and I didn't already take it off. I started just panicking. I was looking at the two places that I would've left it, and it's not there. I was at my BM's house last night and I was trying to remember if I removed my ring at any point at her house. I didn't remember doing so. Now, as I'm going through the night before in my head, I remembered putting on some lotion right before bed. Usually I take my ring off to do this too. So then I realize that I probably put it on my nightstand and maybe I knocked it off with my book since I obviously must've forgotten to put it back on. I have some stuff next to my bed and nightstand, so I just start ripping stuff away to see if my ring fell down. I have a bag of pictures that have yet to make it into a photo album, and I start frantically taking everything out of that bag. Thank God I found it at the bottom of the bag. I was totally freaking out!! I couldn't imagine how horrible I would feel if I ever lost it...
This happened to any of you before? Now I'm going to be a complete freak about my ring. If I take it off for lotion, it's going in my mouth until I can put it back on...!!!!

Just don't swallow it!
Actually the same thing happened to me. I also put mine in my mouth if I'm putting on lotion. If I'm doing dishes, it goes in a shot glass by the sink. If I'm in the shower, it goes on the dresser next to the TV. I'm anal.

I must say that after thinking about a bit, I am happy that this is the first time it's happened in the 8 months that I've had it! I'm usually so anal too, that's why I was freaking out so much!

Be careful, ladies!! I hope your men know the heimlich maneuver!! I usually put mine on a little shelf outside my bathroom, but sometimes if I'm IN the bathrom already I'll snap my contact solution lid down over it. I know that sounds silly, but it has this piece of plastic so the lid can't come off the bottle completely, so it makes it nice and secure, even if I knock all of my products off the back of the toilet (which happens a lot! It's a small bathroom!) But, hey, I already knocked my cell phone into the toilet once! I'm not taking any chances!! But my fiance was so paranoid that when we bought the ring in St. Thomas he wouldn't let me take it out of the safe to look at it--the diamond wasn't set yet, and he was paranoid I'd lose it. And then when we got back and got it set and he proposed he almost wasn't going to let me WEAR it until I got it insured! I had to promise to call my insurance company the next day! Now that it's appraised and insured at twice the amount we paid for it (AMAZING jewelry deals in St. Thomas!!!) he jokes it's ok if I lose it because we can use the insurance money which would pay for not only a replacement ring but a free trip to St. Thomas to replace it! No insurance fraud in my future, though, I LOVE my ring!! It was quite a search to find it as I had this exact vision in mind, although I hadn't actually seen it anywhere!

I don't actually put the ring all the way in my mouth, silly ladies... Just between my teeth or lips...

MTGH--do you have photos you can post of your ring??
I thought I lost my ring once too--DH and I were getting ready on a Saturday morning to go out somewhere (can't even remember where, but he was really excited to go to wahtever it was that we were gonna do) and I went to put my ring on (i normally take it off at night and put it on my dresser) but it wasn't there! I tore the house apart, didn't find it, re-traced my steps about a million times, started BAWLING cus i thought i lost it, like threw it away or something...but I knew that it was in the house because the last place i remember having it was in my pocket of a pair of jeans. i think i looked in those jeans like a million times. finally, after like 2-3 hours of searching (yea, that's right, 2-3 HRS!) i was about to accept the fact that iwt was gone and thought how glad I was that we had it insured, i picked up my desk chair, and lo and behold THERE IT WAS!!! I have absolutely no idea how it got under there, but it was! I haven't let it out of my sight since then. DH picked it out all by himslef and it was hand engraved in England-and he even had it specially designed for me--definitely irreplaceable!
I hope if it hasn't happened to you that it never does because gosh, it is SUCH an awful feeling. I refused to leave the house until we found it. Needless to say we missed the thing we were getting ready to go to.

I guess I can try to take a digital picture, and then how does this photobucket thing work that everyone's using? I'm quite technologically challenged. Maybe I'm better off descibing it... The center stone is just over a carat princess cut, surrounded by a square bezel of small diamonds, then a delicate band also studded with diamonds, and then the front and back sides supporting the center bezel have a v shape of diamonds. It's a lot of diamonds (like almost 2 carats total weight), but it's very delicately made so it's not like it looks gaudy or anything. I'll have to figure out this picture thing! What do your rings look like?

My ring IS gone. I took it off one night (over two years ago) because I was putting on lotion. I fell asleep on the couch (where I took it off; it was on a tray next to the couch). I woke up in the middle of the night and went to bed, forgetting that my ring was there. The next day, it was gone. Turns out that my young daughter got a hold of it and CANNOT REMEMBER WHERE SHE PUT IT.
We've looked EVERYWHERE. We even went through all the garbage cans and slit open the vacuum cleaner bag, thinking that it might have been vacuumed up by mistake. NO RING.
I'm hoping that we'll find it when we move someday. In the meantime, I bought myself an el-cheapo sterling silver ring with Russian crystals set into it.
I was WAY more freaked out than my husband. He wasn't too worried about it; he said we can just buy another one someday. I told him that I don't want another ring - I want MY ring. We sort of have an agreement that when the time comes to move, if we still don't find it, THEN we'll think about replacing it with a "quality" ring (I had a platinum band with diamonds).
Not only is my wedding ring gone, but my e-ring was soldered to it, so it's gone, too.

Good luck taking the picture... I tried to use DH's digital camers to take a picture of my ring, and we couldn't get a good-enough closeup.
As for Photobucket, once you take/scan a picture, save it on your computer. Then go to http://www.photobucket.com and follow the directions to set up your account and upload pictures. It's all step-by-step. When you're done and you're viewing the pictures online, you'll find three codes underneath each picture - copy/paste the third code (IMG) to make the picture appear in the post. You can use the Testing Forum to play around until you get the hang of it.
Anyway, since I struck out with the camera, I'll describe: it's platinum, marquis-cut diamond, and the setting has a bit of a twist around it. There's a few smaller stones embedded on either side. The band's white gold with a cut design.

*Everyone* should have good, close-up pictures of any good jewelry to use for insurance and replacement purposes.
We gave all three daughters (and DH surprised me with one) a Waterford ring holder to put where-ever. Actually I have two- one by my bed and one in the kitchen. So if my ring isn't on my finger, it's in one of the two ring holders. I do panick occasionally when we are in a hotel, and I take my ring off to go to sleep.
Mine is almost 2-carats brilliant cut in a tension holder, with 8 square cut diamonds on each side, set a little bit lower than the center stone. With the tension holder, there are no sharp edges or prongs to catch on things, so I can wear them with sterile gloves without worrying that the glooves will rip.

MTGH... be careful with the flash. I tried to take a picture of my ring once and the diamond kept reflecting the flash into the picture too much. It was just a ball of light.
As for my ring, it is yellow gold, 3 round stones, with 6 more smaller diamonds in the band... 3 on each side. It has a matching wedding band with diamonds.
I found a similar ring on their website. Imagine this in yellow gold and the 3 diamonds on the band that are bigger aren't bigger on the band I'm getting.
(picture not found)
May as well edit mine also to say that my engaement ring is 1 carat TW, the wedding band is 1/2 carat TW.

These are my engagement ring
and my wedding band (to be)
Edited to add: The engagement ring is a total of ~1 Ct. The wedding band is 1/3 Ct. Both are platinum. The width of the diamonds along the top of each ring is the same. Once I actually get to wear the ring (after the wedding of course), I'll be able to post a pic of them together.

oooo, that sounds cool, wynelle! I've been glad that I don't live in a really cold-weather environment b/c I don't know how I'd wear nice winter gloves over my ring... Maggie, Heather, anyone???
feb, I am so, so sorry you lost your rings! I'd be so devastated... I hope you find it when you pack up to move. I lost a ruby/diamond earring like that once, I thought my kitty had gotten it but somehow it wound up in the back of a shelving unit (where I looked several times) and it was one of the last things I found to pack when I moved from that apartment! What a relief that was...
I'm super-paranoid with my diamond ring so I always put it on the kitchen windowsill when I take it off while cooking, or on a shelf in the bathroom where I put my everyday jewelry (I'm very boring and usually wear the same stuff day in and day out, LOL). If I take it off to put lotion on, I tie it with the drawstrings of my PJpants. In a hotel room, I always put my the jewelry I take off at night inside a mug or glass on the nearest table to me but not next to the alarm clock.
Hmmm, I'll have to try to get a picture of my rings later. My e-ring is an emerald-cut 3/4 ct diamond set East/West in a smooth yellow gold band with two diamond baguettes on either side of the center stone.

yeah, hostely I never take my ring off. And it you think about it there really is no reason to. wearing it in the shower and when you do dishes isnt going to do anything to the diamond. the only thing that can cut a diamond is a diamond. and you dont think all your skin cells and the pollution in the environment and all that kind of other stuff isnt going to get it dirty anyways? thats why you take it to get cleaned occasionally. Ive had mine on for a month and a half now and dont pla on taking it off. Ive had one ring (a silver claddagh s/p?) for years and never taken it off and its just fine. I work with animals all day, im a vet tech; and blood and pee and hair and all else get on my rings but, pfft, if it wasnt meant to be worn and it wasnt durable enough to begin with....well. I understand taking it off for lotion, most of the time i do too (but i hardly use lotion anyways) but everything else, naw. just a bit excesive to me. I was worried about it falling off when my hands were wet before we got it fitted, but now its fitted properly and i dont have to worry about that. So I dunno. I dont mean to sound snotty but all this about taking it off all the time and fear of losing it sounds a bit much to me.
anyways, i joined the rest of the world and did photobucket, so here is my first photobucket thihng. my ring, except my sidestones are rubies.

Well, you all have great pictures...and beautiful rings! I just snapped these shots with my camera phone, so WAY blurry. I don't think you can see the detail at all.
As I mentioned before--I don't think you can see it--there's a square bezel of small diamonds around the center stone. I love that the band is so delicate, and yet there's diamonds all around it.
(picture not found)
This side view you can't make out at all, but I think you can see there's a V--there's all diamonds up and down the V with a little bit bigger one at the very bottom of the V.
This is my first trial w/ photobucket, so let's see if it works!

You guys made me all paranoid!! I have to take my ring off when I sleep b/c the setting is so sharp, I cut myself in my sleep! I alway leave it on the bathroom counter with my watch, earrings, and a diamond bracelet. Last night I read all the posts and thought all the things that could happen in the bathroom so before I went to sleep I put it in a little dish on my nightstand. This morning I went to put it on (with my watch, earrings, etc..) and it wasn't there. I had a moment of panic until I remembered that I had put it in a different place. Funny how you get in a routine and it is almost impossible to change tracks in your mind!

I'm still getting used to wearing mine, I just got engaged last Saturday. I want to wear mine to bed, but FH claims that he doesn't want to end up with any marks. I tend to roll around a lot when I sleep. Mine is so pretty, it is a thin white gold band, with six teeny diamonds on either side of a 3/4 cw princess cut setting. The wedding band is identical to the e-ring band except it has 14 teeny diamonds. I'll try to post a picture of it.

Beautiful rings everyone! I rarely ever take mine off either, just for hand lotion and I am usually sitting mt my desk when I do that, so I can see it in plain sight right on my mouse pad.
When I worked for Cisco Systems, they would have these vendors come in and have craft and jewelry faires around the holidays. I bought this really pretty diamond and sapphire ring (simple band with small stones, it was only about $120) and lost it by the end of the week. I know exactly what I did too - was drying my hands with paper towels in the bathroom and pulled it off and dropped it in the trash! Several hours later once I realized what I had done, I cut my losses and left it. I wasn't about to go rooting through the waste bin in a public bathroom! I worry more about doing something like that than leaving it somewhere.

You all are making me miss my engagement ring. I sent it back to the store with my SIL (jeweler is in Washington D.C. close to where she works) bc I hit my hand and ring against a brink wall when I was carrying something to the SUV at my rent's house. The tips anchoring my center stone were sharp plus I wanted to make sure the prongs were okay so the diamond would not fall out. LM

Thanks! I love my ring, too! I think I drove my FH crazy telling him it HAS to exist! Searched every site there is and many jewlers here--and then went to at least 30 jewelers in St. Thomas till we found EXACTLY what I had envisioned. Bless his heart for being understanding I had a vision of exactly what I wanted! But, hey, as I mentioned it was half the price of what we could have gotten it HERE for, so I don't think he minded TOO much!

My ring looks just like Bebe's, but probably not as big. Mine is a 1/2 ct, which is exactly what I wanted. I'm not extravagant and we are on limited funds. I'm so proud of my ring. FH always feels like he didn't buy me a big enough or fancy enough one, but I told him never to talk like that again. Honestly, it was the exact ring I picked out when we went looking at them the first time. I think I only have blurry pics as well. Here is a pic of my wedding band though.
I'm so glad this started a whole thing about rings. I love seeing everyone's different tastes.

man alive, after trying to take a good pic of my ring I've gained a new appreciation for the cut, color & clarity of my diamond, LOL! wynelle, how exactly does one get a good picture of the ring for insurance purposes???
The jeweller's website also doesn't have my ring on there anymore, there's one similar... I may try to post a pic later.
One thing I'd been meaning to share is that my buddy who helped me with gown-shopping and tastings is now engaged! YAAaaY!!! Her FH is Swedish and apparently they do things very differently over there, his friends teased him mercilessly about whether he'd get her an "American style" e-ring (they got engaged in Sweden). Because over there, the custom is to get engaged and then both the woman AND the man wear plain gold bands during the engagement. During the wedding ceremony, the bride receives another gold band which is prettier & more valuable than the e-ring and may have precious gemstones. Isn't that different? My friend is also totally excited b/c they got to watch the jeweller make their rings, she says that makes them extra-special.

Congrats to your friend!! FYI, my insurance company didn't need pictures, but I needed to submit a signed appraisal. Also, if you don't have your ring SPECIFICALLY covered on your insurance by submitting an appraisal (and they add it on and raise your rates) it will NOT be covered. They have a maximum amount of jewelry coverage if you don't have it added (usually about $500). So just having pictures of it isn't enough if you don't hae it covered to begin with. Just thought I'd let you know because I didn't know that either, but my FH made sure I called my insurance and had it covered.

My engagement ring is very similar to this (also no "mom"), but in 18K yellow gold w/ 11 round diamonds, 1/4 carat. FH wanted at least 1/2 carat, but I just liked the way the ring looked. It's the same width as my wedding ring, which is plain gold, matching FH's ring. His is the width of my two put together.

mine's a set & they're soldered together. DH picked it out all by himself. The side stones are colored sapphires in our birthstones--his is Amethyst & mine is Pink Turmeline (sp?). He totally modified the original ring to what it is. He had them lower the diamond because he knew that I didn't want it to stick really high up & he had them custom add the side stones because he knew that I wanted some sort of color included in the ring.
The band was hand engraved in England instead of shoved in a cookie-cutter machine like some places do.
As for the diamond, it is 1/3 caret. Sometimes I wish it was bigger, but then I remember that when he gave it to me he told me that he could have gotten a much bigger one, but chose this one because it was much higher quality and has great clarity. He thought I'd prefer quality over size--what a cutie
I absolutely LOVE it and could NOT have found a more perfect ring had I picked it out myself!

We (or our FH's) have good taste!!! I've never met anyone with a ring similar to mine either. A jeweler once told me that princess-cut diamonds are very popular...but everyone I know has round diamonds or if they have a princess cut it is only in the center stone. I LOVE princess cut diamonds and I wanted them in my entire ring.

My DH knew that I was going to wear my e-ring after the wedding. In fact, I wasn't planning on getting a seperate wedding band. I was going to use the same ring for both. But, he made the mistake of telling me to try on rings, while we were looking for his wedding band. And, I happened to put on one (like the one he got me). It was just too perfect. I still haven't decided if I'm going to get them soldered together. Because, at some point in the future, I may want to remove the lager stone e-ring, while keeping the wedding band on. But, it does bug me a little to have two bands that decide to turn around my finger in different directions. LOL Anyway, here's a pic of both together.
It's a little fuzzy, because this is one of the compressed net images.

DH bought it from a friend that collects coins and jewerly, this friend would like to open a jewerly shop when he retires.... anyway, i am not wearing it right now since the other day I was opening the basement door and accidently hit my hand against the door jamb thus moving a prong. It has 6 prongs I think but still..... I don't want to risk losing one of the diamonds, there are three....anyway, never have lost it.... wait yes I have, shortly after I got married.... ended up I found it in the kitchen on top of the dishwasher. I am not sure what Bob would do if I lost it, he claims it would just be life, I warned him when he gave it to me I never wear rings cause I always lose them! LOL Even ear rings. I get a pair I really love and take them off and never find them again..... Feb, I hope you find your!
Speaking of rings, what are the pros and cons of having them attached to each other????
Blessings!
Love,
Kim--WA

Some people get them attached so that the rings don't twist different ways and stay together on the finger.
I'm not getting mine attached because I want to be able to take off my e-ring and still have my wedding band on, in instances when I might lose my e-ring or don't need to wear it.

So for our wedding DH and I decided to just buy simple plain wedding bands from Walmart. Mine cost all of $15. It seemed like a great choice then since it was all I needed. Well now I want something more. I'm not trying to sound greedy or selfish, but my wedding band is so thin and boring. So I think I am going to ask for this for Christmas.
|
Lil, I don't think it's greedy.
When we tried rings we decided on plain gold with just a little ridge or beading around each edge. Here is a link for it.
http://store.fredmeyerjewelers.com/e...ls5catname/1-9
Anyway, I think I have a 2 mil instead of a 3, I thought we talked about getting a 3 instead, but anyway, I have a narroaw little band that looks barely there when I am not wearing my e ring. I have thought of asking DH if we maybe couldn't get a thicker one, but then again, this is the ring he gave me on our wedding day.... He keeps saying he is gonna buy a cheapo ring in 10 kt or something for me to wear when working but..... I love my e-ring bunches need to have it resized, by at least a 1/2 if not 1 full size, I wash my hands and it almost falls off. YIKES!
Everyone has such beautiful rings!!!!
Blessings!

Are wedding sets not that populuar anymore? Then again, my FH and I went shopping together to get mine. But I wanted a set, mostly so I wouldn't have to worry about matching rings later, lol. I tried to take a pic, but it didn't work out. Just wondered if people are forgoing the sets for seperate rings....or if I'm just the odd one?

I wanted a set for the same reason you do, and DH got me one. My sister also got a set, but most of my friends don't have sets.

We didn't really look at wedding sets when we picked out my ring, mostly because I knew there were a ton of wedding bands with channel set diamonds that would match my e-ring. And FH and I aren't trying to match our rings, so we are just going in a couple months to buy wedding rings seperately.

Yeah, FH and mine won't match, but I'm not worried about that. He's said he just wants a solid band, we'll probably get it at Wal-Mart. I like my set tho b/c I've never personally wore thick rings, and wasn't sure if I'd like it. The band to mine is a very thin (almost don't notice it's there) and notched to fit under the stones of the e-ring. Gotta love it.

Mine is a wedding set. After hubby found the engagement ring, the wedding band was custom made to match the emeral cut diamonds on the e-ring and the hand-engraved band. The band and the e-ring kind of fit together like a puzzle does, if that makes sense... Hubby's ring was custom made to have the same engraving, and he has six (I think) emerald cut diamonds that lay flat against the band. Not sure if that makes sense either, lol. I'll try to do a picture of both, but it won't happen until my pc is up and running again.

Well, lo and behold, I finally (!!!) found a picture of my ring. It's 1/2 ct., and I like it, it's the very first one I tried on.

I think that band is lovely. Different and distinct.

Don't say "only"! That ring is gorgeous. I love unique bands and that is beautiful!

Mine is "only" a 1/4 carat--in 11 stones channel set in the band--but I love it. FH pushed for at least the 1/2c version, but I just liked the way the slightly smaller one looked, especially when stacked with my wedding band, which is plain gold.

Lol, guess that came out wrong. I love my ring, and I found it the very first time I even looked at rings. My FH was worried that he wasn't spending enough money either, but I told him that this is what I wanted. (The two-tone is my compromise since I wanted some color to it.) I told him he had many other occasions to buy me expensive rings. Lol.

I love my ring. It's a 2.85 tcw black diamond with a 2.58 ct center stone. I like the antique look of it and the uniqueness. FH got a black and silver titanium to match. He found it on EBAY and so we were a little concerned that it wouldn't be a real diamond. Once I got it we took it to get sized andthe jeweler said he had never seen a real black diamond before (he tested it) and he thanked me for bring it to him to be sized. How nice!
You can view the ring here:

And if you read the proposal story you will see that the ring has already been lost once...and not by me!

Are black diamonds more expensive than "white" (?) diamonds?
**************************************************
posted by JennPaz
Nope...not yet anyways. It's like the yellow diamond. Back in the day there were very cheap b/c no one wanted a colored stone. Then when color came in the cost SHOT up! The jeweler told me the black diamond will be the same.
Michael Jordan was on Oprah a while back wearing black diamond studded hoop earrings. I'm sure that will help the market a little

That's my ring. Pretty eh? We never discussed what kind of ring or colour of gold - it was a surprise! You can't see too well but it is white and yellow gold. That's a heart shape in the center, with 3 little stones. And 3 stones on either side!
My sweet FH is on a tight budget and it's not what I would have chosen but I do love it cuz it's from him!!
I've been trying to drop hints on the wedding band! LOL We may have a look around when I visit him next the week of Nov 21.
