Extra Spending Money????
Trying to budget out a honeymoon is more hassle than I thought. We are going to Disney World. We are paying off our room and package deal now. So we will not need to pay to get into the parks, and we have 1 table service, 1 counter service, a 1 sanck covered each day - each (unless we do a fancy meal and then we have to use 2 of our table service vouchers for it) . We will be staying for 8 days. My question is how much extra spending money do you think we will need to bring to cover any additional things we may want to do, buy etc?

That is an impossible question to answer! Bring a credit card and be strong!! I could spend a fortune on Tshirts, Mickey ears, pins etc....Food is crazy expensive so you are smart to have pre-paid alot of that!!
How much can you afford to spend- that is probably the best question to ask yourself!
You will have a BLAST!!!!!

Wow, yes this definatly is a very hard question to be answered!!! 8 days hmmmmmm... I love to spend money!!!!LOL If you have the time to save, and the extra money to put away I would probably say anywhere from 200.00-500.00 Only you know yourself best as far as your "spending habbits"
GOOD LUCK GIRL!!! Let us know what you decided!!!

Mike and I brought about $1300 in cash with us for spending money to the Bahamas (Paradise Island, The Atlantis Resort & Casino). We were there for 8 days too. We set aside about $500 for things we wanted to do like the Powerboat Adventures where you cruise around the Cayes, or swimming with dolphins, etc. We set aside about $200 to go out and eat in the best restaurant in Nassau. We set the rest aside for food, transportation, casino, drinks and shopping. Between the two of us we only spent about $800 total (aside from the hotel). We didn't do an all-inclusive b/c we're really into hanging out where the locals hang so we spent a lot of time eating where the local eat, etc. I hate buffets in those locations too, I just don't trust them, and we ended up saving money this way too.
Anyway - try to do research for things you want to do or places you want to eat, and get an idea of what they cost ahead of time. (Some things you have to reserve ahead of time too.) You can do a pretty fair guesstimation if you do a little research first.

We spent more on food, but I would say even with eating out twice at upscale resturants on Ocras we still spent only about $1000 on top of the cottage we rented. But I don't think either of us was really in a budget mode..... But where we went there was only so much to do and I mean when you don't even leave until 2 or 3 in the afternoon not much is even open very long in October! Sex kept our budget down! We did do a lot of strolling and my big thing is pictures. FORGET T-shirts, pins, etc, just give me a camera!

In terms of meals, we are going to be on the dining plan (1 table service, 1 counter servic(fast food), and 1 snack - per person - is included each day) But if we can use 2 table service vouchers for a fancier meal, or we could just pay it out of pocket I guess. There is one additional meal we will need to cover each day.
I don't know much about suvinear prices or anything else either, I know I want to try and bring back mouse ears for my son, and possibly our neices and nephews (9 kids total). And anything nice to bring back for us as a reminder or the trip, and the babysitters (my parents and my sons godmother). We may end up severly cutting the suvinere list WAY down, but that is what we are looking at now.

Disney souvenirs aren't inexpensive. You're looking at between $30-50 for the ears. I've heard tell that if bride and grooms purchase the bride and groom ears they reap a ton of freebie's and benefits
Do you have a refrigerator in your room? If not you can tape up a small ice chest and check it on the plane as luggage. This will help with other meals. Typically breakfast and lunch.
Meals in the parks are usually quite spendy and not huge portions. I would think you'll spend a great deal on beverages. If you drink water, take water bottles!
We take an ice chest frequently. My favorite breakfast is a bagel with cream cheese and bacon slices on top. You can purchase the bacon already cooked that doesn't require refrigeration, or already cooked that does require refrigeration. I typically pre-cook turkey bacon (trying to reduce fat intake) and put it in the chest. It's a filling meal that will carry you through a good portion of the day!!! (and you can have breakfast in bed without anyone bothering you )
The bacon is also great for lunches. Pack a tupperware with mayo or miracle, lunch meat, cheese etc and you can make your own club sandwiches... don't forget a great bread.
We often take our own alcohol (in ice chest or padded between clothes) taped up and secured in a zip lock back in case of breakage. If you would like to drink a bit this can greatly save you $.

Wow those are really great ideas Breezy!!! If requested, we can get a free mini fride in the room, I just read that in my travel book, so I will talk to the travel agaen this week about getting that inculded in our room. And if we get large meals we don't finish, we can store the lefy overs left-overs.

see i think $30-50 for a pair of mouse ears is really expensive. I find all their souveniors to be way overpriced... like $50-80 for a sweater?! I would buy Ace a couple cool things like ears and a sweater and then send everyone else disney postcards or find like the little notepads or something cuz REALLY... you can buy DISNEY stuff ANYWHERE anymore!
Just my opinion though.

That is a really good point. I never knew stuff would be that expensive there, I knew it would be expensive, just not that expensive. Alot of it depends on the money situation when we go though.
Once we get the trip payed off, which could be sooner, or later depending on wheather or not Ian actually gets some money that might be coming to him. We want to save up an additional 250.00 a month for spending money. If we don't spend all if there, then we can just bring it home, if we need it at least we will have it. If we don't have enough time to save up enough extra spending money, I will probobly just hold a chunk out of my income taxes out for that purpose.

I like having more money than less to spend (I know, I'm crazy) but we took $1,000 with us on our honeymoon to the Mexican Riviera. I'd rather have too much than too little.

I'm the same - when we are away we want to be enjoying ourselves and relaxing rather than worrying about how much money we are spending every day, of course have some kind of budget but I always make sure we over-budget so we dont end up dissapointed!

We just returned from a Disney visit a couple of months ago. We found a souvenior shop near our hotel that saved us a ton! You can probably look in the yellow pages to find something similar. Disney T-shirts were anywhere from $6-$15, you could buy mugs for a couple of bucks, pens, magnets, you name it!

Ok, I did speak to my friends but forgot to post! I guess they got the Platinum package -- I have no clue what that is -- but it included all their meals and snacks, all they paid for were trinkets and things, so they only brought a few hundred dollars. I'm sorry it's not much help!

We looked into the platnum package, but when we are going it would cost us an additional $1,500.00 above the $3,700.00 we are already paying. I though about it , but we already have one table service (sit down resteraunt)and one quick service(fast food resteraunt) and one snack included per person, per day. Granted we may need to buy additional food (some of the nicer resteraunts require 2 table service vouchers per person, per meal), but I don't think it will go over $1,500.00 (I hope).
Disney World is expensive, thank goodness we are only doing this once (well in 7-10 years we plan to take Ace, but we have more time to save up for that trip)

Disney can be expensive and there are a lot of other things over there that will catch your eye. If you have to buy any extra food (outside of your package), it's going to cost a pretty penny. I think last time I went; it was $9.50 for a small cheeseburger and some fries. The drink was more. It is REALLY hot and humid here, so plan on drinking ALOT.
We went to Las Vegas for our honeymoon. We brought $1300 for 5 days. On the last day, we were hitting up the ATM.
I would think about 50-100 per day, per person would be ok. How many days will you be at Disney? The souveniers are outrageous, it's more like being robbed than purchasing something IMO.
My only real advice: wear comfortable shoes and clothes, if you are going on the water rides bring a change of clothes and shoes. Wear sunscreen and sunglasses.

Hi Rachel! What a great place to spend your honeymoon! My husband and I went there several months after we were married and had a fantastic time.
I would do a bit of internet research to plan out where you can eat your meals at a reasonable price. If you avoid some of the tourist traps, you should be able to save a bit of money. Plus, you can view menus and know exactly what you'll be getting ahead of time. We planned our meals this way and saved a ton on food.
As far as gifts and souvenirs, I would have a set amount in mind before you go and stick with it. Impulse purchases can easily get out of hand when you get into such a fun and vibrant environment. The "little" purchases can really add up. I would buy one or two items as remembrances from your trip and take the money you save home to save for another excursion.
Think about all of the fun free things you can do that don't cost alot of money such as walks on the beach, biking, window shopping, lying on the beach before spending money on acitivities. Heck, drinking coffee in a cafe and people watching can be a great form of low cost entertainment! The important thing is that you're together in one of the most exciting places in the country. (at least in my opinion).
In other words, planning ahead will not only save you alot of money but time also and will free you up to enjoy your trip more once you arrive.
Have a fantastic honeymoon!
Kristie
