ok, ok, i know many people throw out "what do i do for favors, if anything?"- and i know not everyone is a fan of favors... but, _IF_ you guys were having favors, what would you do if: i originally wanted lemon curd favors b/cs it was going ot be in my wedding cake and b/cs it was a nice spring/summer flavor.... but now we're getting married in jan... and i don't want to be cliche' and do anything christmasy (no candy cans or anything like that) and i would rather do something edible... any suggestions for a winter theme--feel free to throw out non-edibles, but i'm blanking on any ideas. i may toss out favors all together unless i get a good idea...

always like toffee as a winter dessert/treat. I always used to make it with my mom and give it to my teachers as treats

. You could put it in little tins and tie it with ribbons that match the colors of your wedding/reception. You could also do anything wintery but no Christmasy...snow, snowmen. I am blanking on favors as well but I do like the toffee idea.

the toffee idea is great! another thing you could do is homemade marshmallows (I have a recipe if you need it), cut them in snowflake shapes w/ a cookie cutter and sprinkle some colored sugar on each in your wedding color... or you could make little snowmen out of them. or make gingerbread cookie couples? you could always do honey (my personal fave), buy it at the end of the season & keep it until the wedding. maybe I can think of something else later...

How about mugs full of a mix for spiced cider or hot buttered rum? Tie it up with a ribbon and a cinnamon stick. You could probably get the mugs (some of those nice clear ones) from the dollar store.

Wow, that would work for October too, huh? I may have to steal my own ieda! Our CD favors I think we are going to toss - a lot of people so wouldn't get or like the music we would want to put on there...

bebe, you are too funny! steal away my dear-- i think that would be great for oct... especially a mulled cider for fall!!!
actually, i was thinking the other day.. i dont really think it is necessary to do a save the date--all the important players already know when we are getting married, but i had originally planned to send out little sachets of pre-ground coffee (enough to make one pot) w/ a sticker label w/ our photo and info to STD b/cs coffee is an integral part of how we met (i was working at a coffee shop; he had hired my company to do the espresso bar) and b/cs we both LOVE all things coffee.... but now, i am thinking clear mugs w/ the little packs inside of them (my old coffee company can still provide the coffee, and prolly at a discounted price b/cs the owner of that co is also my officant!!!!) and coffee is a nice warm treat, eh? (even tho i am aware that not everyone likes coffee.) should i offer a reg and a decaf or just reg? i dont want to blow my budget on favors that's for sure!

Well, you have to figure, no matter what favors you get, there is going to be SOMEONE who is not into them. If it's something sweet, someone is no doubt diabetic and can't partake. If you do CD's, some people aren't going to like the music. Even with the lemon curd - some people just aren't into lemon. So I say just make it easy for yourself. Even if they don't drink coffee, they still have the mug and a token from you, right? Or, you could to a mug full of coffee or toffee candies and nix the real coffee altogether.

Mine is a non-edible. I have ordered gift trees from the Arbor Day website. They have a variety of pines available for all regions of the US. The trees are $3 each (50 tree minimum purchase), and you can personalize the label for a set rate of $49.95 (no matter how many you buy). One advantage to this favor is that it is purchased by family, instead of by guest, so there are fewer to buy. According to the website, the trees will also grow potted for up to three years, if your guests don't have room to plant them outdoors. (Since the 50 tree min is probably more than I need, I will be donating the extras to the City's Parks and Recreation Dept.) I chose the trees because I really wanted something that would last, and be remembered by my guests.
I know you don't want Christmassy, but as long as you don't decorate them with ornaments and Christmas colors, evergreens are an all season item.
