I'm planning a wedding for August 2003 and i'm trying to find something different for wedding favors with a cost of about $3.50 or under each. I'm not getting married at the beach but a summer theme would be nice but it dosen't have to be. I was thinking of sand castles but the ones that I have found are alittle costly. Any ideas? Do you think the sand castles are more of a beach wedding theme?

Sand castles are definitely a beach thing, but depending on the rest of your "theme," it could work. I would chose a favor that is useful and blends with your table settings, i.e., same colors/flowers. I found small shaped candles that doubled as favors and placesettings by attaching the guests' names with a pin. You can find lots of shapes (mini fruits, flowers, etc.) Last year, martha stewart's magazine showed sea-shells with candle wax poured inside. There are so many possibilities!

Little candles are a great idea. Like Scotty said, they can be found in many colors and designs. You could wrap them in tulle and tie them with ribbon. If you want to go the tradional route, there is always candy such as hershey kisses or almonds.

There are also a lot of candy makers who have "specialty" candies such as seashell shaped white chocolates wrapped in your choice of foil colors...

Yankee Candles have some marvelous options, but I'm not sure about price. You can make boxes filled with flower seed (I'm planning on 150 for under $100.00) if you don't mind doing it yourself. Check out things like BridalLink.com. Hope this helps!

My friend had a beach theme and she got sand pails from the toy section and filled them with flip flops for everyone. She sprinkled sand down the center of the table and randomly placed seashells then she had about three or four buckets to a table. Each place setting had a hawaian lay and a pair of cheepie sunglasses. It was so much fun.

We had two favors: votive candles wrapped in tulle (tied with personalized ribbon) and miniature Hershey bars with personalized labels. Both together cost me less than $1.50 per guest, though it would probably have been more expensive had I not made everything myself.

We are making CDs for each of our couples/families. We are putting on some of our favorite songs and some songs used in the ceremony and reception. Since we are getting married around Christmas, we are also including a few of our favorite Christmas songs. These CDs are costing us about .75 a couple when all is said and done. You could put on some "summer-themed" songs, maybe put a sea shell on the label or something fun like that.

I'm getting married in August and have a daisy theme. Since I am somewhat crafty we went to Ikea and bought 4x6 wood picture frames (3 for $1.95)and are painting and stamping them with a daisy stamp in the colors of the wedding and then are going to put a favorite snapshot of us in each one for our favors. If you are crafty, think of things you can make like that. It adds a personal touch and can cut down the cost significantly!

For our wedding in September, we are giving each guest a small bottle of wine. We found one that matches our black and white wedding perfectly, but they are $ 2.50 each. You can get Gallo Zin bottles for about $ 1.50 and they all come with personalized labels to put on them for free. All you have to do is go to your local liquor store and ask about their favor selection. Hope it helps.

I am also planning an August 2003 wedding. My finace and I are planning to ask guests to send their favourite recipe along with their invitation reply. Then we are going to compile a cookbook. It's a neat way to make all the guests feel a part of your wedding and we'll get some great recipes. I am planning to put the receipe for the chicken I made him on one of our first dates in the book. We are also putting a "thank you for sharing our day" type thing inside the front cover. Printing should be very cheap at our local Business Depot.
