Hello ladies
I need help with favors. My brother is planning his wedding and being their MOH, i need help finding favors. I had the same problem when i was planning my wedding. How do you choose a favor that reflects you?
How did you choose yours?

A lot of people choose a favour that reflects their cultural heritage. My Thai/Chinese friend gave tiny tea cups, my Welsh friend gave tiny wooden loving spoons (a welsh tradition). Scottish wedding was miniature bottles of whiskey. I was going to give chopsticks with a nice embroidered presentation holder to reflect my Korean heritage (another thing is to give tiny sets of ducks because they mate for life) but FH and FFIL both voted for chocolate. Decided to go with chocolate (which I also love) as I've heard people on this forum (and elsewhere) talk about how they tend to discard wedding favour knicknacks, whereas anything edible is appreciated (usually right after dinner!) In fact, we've made sure not to have an overwhelmingly chocolate dessert so guests can appreciate the artisanal chocolate we are getting.
Other suggestions would be to think about any hobbies the bridal couple enjoys together. I remember one wedding where the favours were engraved champagne flutes because the couple were into collecting wine/champagne. Or, is there a place they have visited/holidayed in that has special significance everyone knows about? If so, try to find mini souvenirs from that city/area to use as favours.

I adore Christmas, and we're having a semi-Christmas themed wedding, so we're doing ornaments. Winter-themed, so non-Christians can hang them on their window or something, if they like. And we're putting them in plastic ice cream pint containers from Coldstone, because FH put my ring in one when he proposed. Most folks at the wedding will have heard the story, so they should get it.

I'm a candle freak so we gave vanilla scented candles wrapped in white tulle.

I went themey. We're having a beach wedding so I could have gone nautical, tropical or beachy. I chose beachy

I went through many ideas for favors, one of them being lottery tickets in a vellum envelope with a penny from the year you are getting married. But I changed my mind and we are doing 3 different truffles in an ivory bag with a black bow. Small, simple and I LOVE CHOCOLATE!

Irish here- so we had chocolates made in the shape of shamrocks and our initials.
Also, out table centerpieces were candle holders with Irish themes. When the candle is lit, the background disappears and all that shows is the design- Irish flag, shamrock, harp, lover's knot, Book of Kells, etc.

We had a beach theme wedding, so we made resin coasters with tiny seashells embedded, with a sand dollar in the middle with our names and wedding date written in gold pen.
We got the idea from an episode of TLC's While You Were Out, where they did something similar for the room they were doing.

We're having a pretty small wedding, with a pretty small buget & the money seemed better spent elsewhere.
So ours are little black pillow shaped boxes filled with gold tissue parcels containing chocolates. The boxes are then wrapped with ivory ribbon printed with our names & wedding date in gold & on the know are two little ivory roses. Almost all the bits were bought off ebay & made up by FH & I.
I'll try to post a pretty bad picture.... (had to scan it as I've not got a digital camera yet!)

Ann, that looks BEAUTIFUL! I'm using orange pillow boxes and was going to tie a bow using personalized ribbon but I like what you did so will get some mini roses too. How did you attach the roses? Did you just tie a small knot (no bow at all?) and stick them on with a glue gun?

Ann, 2 more questions I need to ask:
What size pillow box are you using?
What length ribbon? Where did you get the ribbon?
Thanks! Ok sorry that was 3!

I have to chime in, I got my ribbon at reasonableribbon.com. They have great prices and quick shopping. The only down side is that they don't seem to have wide ribbon for bows.

I am donating money to a charity. I don't want to offend anyone by what I'm about to say- but... I ALWAYS throw out the favors I get, and I know I'm not the only person who does this. So I decided that I'm going to donate money to a charity, and they give you place cards that say something nice like- in honor of your presence money has been donated to abc charity... Personally I think thats a nice gift.
Last year for Christmas, my Aunt donated Goats in our name to some third world country- or somewhere, it was really nice, considering that we already have so much.

We just happened to find little packs of 6 x silver teddy bear candles, and Scott's pet-name for me is Amanda-bear, so we just went with that. Plus we had name tags attached to each bear so they were place settings as well, and silver was a theme colour. We had no idea what we wanted as favours so maybe you'll just know them when you see them.

My favors were simple and cheap. I wrapped pieces of gum for everyone. At the end of the reception, the kids were going from table to table collecting all the gum, so there wasn't any left over!

I'm already thinking of having my mom gather up all the favors left behind (chocolate truffles) and FH and I can take them on our honeymoon!

I love the idea of donating to charity in lieu of favors!!!!
I live in the south east and there are so many needs down here since Hurricane Katrina that donating to the red cross sounds awesome.
We are not having a sit-down dinner.....Do you girls think it would be tacky to put it on the programs....or do you have any other suggestions?

Not at all. Or you could post a simple little sign at the reception that states where the money went as well. What kind of reception are you having?

I would talk to the charity you want to donate to. Some will give you a big framed sign that says you donated money.
