Message from Grandma
I'm not sure this goes in this forum, but since it's related to our upcoming party, I figured this was as good a place as any...
I just got the cutest RSVP (via voicemail) from my FH's 83-y/o Grandmother for our housewarming/engagement/end-of-summer party next weekend, and I wanted to share 'cause it made me feel so good. It went something like this:
"Hi Julie, this is Dorothy, Rick's Grandma. I was calling to let you know that I'll be coming to your, um, little housewarming, engagment and everything party. I'm really excited. I just love spending time with you guys and I can't wait to see you, I bet it will be a lot of fun."
I know I am probably in the minority here, when I say I LOVE my future in-laws. Granted, my FMIL is decesaed, so that may make things a little easier for me, but I knew her and loved her too and soemtimes wish she was around to share things with. I grew up with virtually no family in the area, and my FH's ENTIRE family lives in the area. I LOVE seeing them all every holiday at Grandma's house - the same house the all grew up in! It bugs me to no end when he complains about them, because he just doens't know how lucky he is to have them.
Just thought I'd share.

Awww-that is a sweet message!!
I have to say I'm with you-Cliff's family (with a couple of exceptions, but that's family for ya!) has been wonderful to me. Guess we should just count ourselves lucky and enjoy our new families!!

I think there are a few of us on here who are in love with our in-laws!
Take my MIL for example:
Example one:
My MIL: called to ask how my interview went for my new job. Sent me a card to wish me luck on my first day, then called that night to see how it went. She even offered to do some laundry for us while I was settling into the new routine! (no I didn't take up her very kind offer!).
My mum: said it was good I'd got a new job .(she didn't even stop what she was doing to ask about it).
example two:
My MIL: Let us all know well in advance that she was going on holiday. Called when she got there to let us know she was safe & said she'll call again at the weekend. Made sure she called after we were home from work. Spent time with us all before she went...
My Mum: Called me the day before she flew out to South Africa to tell me she was going. Haven't heard from her at all. Had to ask her to please send a post card (which I haven't had.. )
(oh where did I put that smillie??? brb.... ETA: )
Moreno has no idea how lucky he is with his family either
But in a way I'm glad of that! I know it sounds crazy, but it must be great to feel so secure with your family. To be able to take their love & attention for granted.

It is really nice to like your in-laws. I really like mine too. Not better than my own parents, but I do really consider them to be my parents as well as DH's parents. And I know they adore me as well.
Julz, your FH's grandma sounds great! In all actuality, I do kinda like DH's grandparents more than my own. My one grandma claimed she was too old to make the trip to LA for my wedding, when just a short while before we were engaged, she was hinting that she'd love if we'd invite her to come visit (we had no room for her, BTW). But, when it came down to seeing her ONLY granddaughter get married and she could only be here for a few days (and stay in a hotel, not my apartment) and not a couple of weeks, she decided not to come at all. It really broke my heart, but both of DH's grandparents came, and we were so appreciative!!

I adore my in-laws too, and think of them all as extended family.

Same goes for my FH"s family! The ones I've met, I just adore! And his family is the same; they're more or less ALL here in town and before his grandma died, everything centered around her. Me, my family's all over the place, no one's local!

That threw me a bit....not a name I normally associate with you. Lol.
I like my IL's too, although his grandmother pulled a stint simliar to Labeadel's and I know both of us were hurt by that. But, what's done is done.

That is so sweet! How great!
I love my future in laws -- all of them. FMIL, cousins, aunts, uncles -- I just love being with them. I already think of many of them as family.

Don't worry Marge, you'll meet ALL of Rick's family at the party next weekend And some of them will probably want to hold and play with Natalie, so be prepared.
I think I enjoy Rick's Grandma even more because I never really had one. Both of our mom's parents and our dad's dad passed away when we were too young to remember, and our dad's mom was very selfish and self-centered. Dad's whole family isn't very "family" oriented and mom's family is too big and scattered to feel much like family. So I'm glad I'm inheriting all these aunts uncles and cousins through my FH
