Default Cadash (aka Brittany)

Hey All - I'm Brittany. I'm 26 and live in Ames, IA. I grew up in a small town about 150 miles east of where I live now. My parents have been happily married for 28 years (sometimes you think that they are newlyweds the way they act!!). I have an older brother whose married and has two kids who are the cutest and smartest little buggers! I'm not biased at all! I also have a younger sister who is a teacher in Southwest IA.

I met my FH, Mark, in Feb 2004 at a party. My best friend from college married a guy from FH's hometown and she moved there. Every year one of her friends has a party at the end of Feb and every year FH goes to the party. Well this year my BF asked me to come with her. FH showed up a little after we got there. He tells me that he asked the hostess who I was right away, but he didn't get up the nerve to talk to me. We finally talked towards the end of the night and really hit it off. We both stayed there due to drinking a little too much. In the morning we woke up about the same time and he asked me if I needed a ride. So he took me back to my BF's house, (she had left earlier that night b/c she was just pregnant and was still getting a little sick). He asked for my number. On Monday night he called and asked me out for Friday. From our first date I knew that he was it and we spent nearly every weekend together. We lived 2 hrs apart and did the long distance thing for 1 year.

In March of 2005 I quit my job, got a job near him and moved in with him and his two roommates (they finally moved out in Aug). This was the scariest thing that I had ever done in my life. We had been talking about marriage for a long time, b/4 I moved in, b/c I told him I wasn't going to be just a live in gf. In July we started seriously looking for rings. He dragged me to 5 different stores, b/c he wanted to make sure we were getting the best one. In the 5th store we found the perfect ring. He asked how long to get it as I wanted a different center stone. It was going to take 3 weeks. Since I knew that, FH had went back to the store and put a rush on the ring and got it in 2 weeks. On Aug 13 we went back home for a surprise b-day party for my sis-n-law. B/4 we went in FH said he had something to show me, it was the most gorgeous e-ring ever! But, since I wanted my mom and dad to be the 1st to know (and they weren't going to be there), he wouldn't let me wear it. I kept the secret thru the entire party, and it was tough! After we left he got the ring out of his truck and put it on my finger, I told him he didn't ask me yet. So he gave me a big hug and whispered in my ear, will you marry me. I said yes of course. It wasn't terribly romantic, but it just seemed to fit, nice and simple. I can't wait to be married to him.

Not every proposal needs to be some big elaborate production number. If it felt right to you that's all that matters! Mine was low key too but it was totally "us" and unforgettable in its own right.

Congrats to you both and all the best for a happy union!

Wow! I can't believe you were able to keep the secret!! I probably would have blabbed to everyone! LOL Great story! My proposal wasn't a big to-do either.. we were out on the farm working on a tractor!!! But it was great, very us!
