Bridal shower blues!!!!
Hi,
I am the mother of the bride and am creating the invitations. My problem is this: My daughter lives in Phoenix and her shower is in Indiana along with the wedding. My daughter and future son in law really do not want to pay for shipping their gifts. Is there a polite way to request gift cards from the places where they are registered? I really don't want to offend anyone, any suggestions?
Thanks for all your help
Diane

I take it that they are not going to be living in Indiana? Or neither one currently lives in IN?
I would say spread the news by word of mouth that they'd prefer gift cards. Or, if they're having the wedding in IN, is there a family member that would be able to store the gifts until a future date? Just an idea.
Where abouts in Indiana is this all taking place? Being from IN myself, I'm curious.

Well not for the shower but for our wedding, we wrote "due to travel constraints we kindly ask that all gifts be sent to our home."

I would put something like this OR not put in a registry card that way people will ask around as to what the B&G prefer

Most of the places I've registered at (mostly larger chain or department stores) will allow guests to ship directly to the bride and groom's address-or whatever address they designate. At Dillard's, the offered a little card in a cute little box that you could give the couple telling them what you got them and that it would be arriving at their house around such and such day. You might look into stores that offer those types of services for bridal shower registry type stuff, just so people can still bring a little something, but the main gift gets sent to their home. Happy planning!

Except this is a hard one, as your dealing with a shower, which is mainly for giving gifts! I have had a friend who was invited to a shower and something was written in there about them not wanting to ship her gifts, and I remember that my friend though that it was very tacky and she was annoyed by it. I can't say I don't disagree. I would just deal with it somehow, shipping them or taking them on a plane. Hopefully most guests invited to the shower will know that she has to travel with the gifts and will try to keep them small in size.

Hi, In response to your curious question, we live in south bend. My daughter moved in 2001, I really prefer your answer to my problem. Hopefully everyone will see it your way and just give gift cards. By the way, where are you from? Have a good evening, take care.

My SIL lives in South Bend. I'm actually about three hours south of there, in a little town that you'll miss if you blink. Lol.
