Default Bday Gifts

Mike's 30th is coming up in November and as we know, it's a big milestone. I want to do something special for him but I just don't have a clue as to what I can do. He loves golf so maybe a weekend away in SC or something? I can't go nuts with price, but I can go a little above and beyond. I want to do something original and maybe something he wouldn't expect (like a golf weekend, lol - he would expect that.) I've looked online but I'm not finding much or maybe I'm not searching properly. Any ideas?

Do you have any stories to share of suprise bday gifts for any milestone?

Hmmmm.......has Mike ever mentioned in passing about things he wished for as a child and never got? What I'm getting at is that when I met my ex hubby, I mentioned in passing a few of the birthdays I had as a kid and he mentally noted all this stuff and for my birthday the following year, I had all the "little" things that I wanted as a child and never got. EX: my parents threw me my 6th year birthday party (w/7 kids you only got 1 certified b-day party w/guests at our house) and I wanted a baton, well the neighbors brought their twin daughters (who were invited) and they also brought a baton and I was so excited that I thought it was mine, turned out if was for one of their kids!!! I was devistated! I cried and cried.....I got my baton when I was 22!! It was the sweetest thing I ever got just because it was a story I told to him months if not a year or so before and he got it for me (with a bunch of other incidents like that...one year I didn't get a birthday cake-so he got me 2.....) just little things (all in one night) and it made it one of the best birthdays I ever had.....it might sound lame or something that would only mean something to a girl but it was a very special birthday for me because it proved to me that all the convo's we've had no matter what they were about he actually listened to and noticed things. Anyway, blah...blah...blah....sorry I'm no help.

My brother turned 40 a couple of years ago and I got him our family name and crest in a beautiful frame. It explains the history of our name and variations of it and the crest was hand embroidered. It was really beautiful and he loved it- was around $300 with shipping etc...

My Mum got him a ballon ride for he and his wife which included a champagne picnic. They were a little nervous at first but said they loved it!

Does he have a fave golf pro? Get an autographed pic.

Aren't there really nice 3 day cruise that leave out of NYC? Some of them have "golf" on board! LOL

If there are any good ideas on here I may have to steal them as it's Chris' 30th on September 23 and I'm having a hard time too!!

Those are all great ideas!!

His bday is in Nov (exactly a week before mine) so I'm not sure if I want to do something with him as a gift to both of us, or send him with a friend. I've been checking out "golf-schools" from here to Virginia and have a few e-mails out to places asking for more information. It would be great if he and I could go together, but he may have more fun doing it with a friend. I'm still up in the air on this idea because if I do it, I want to do it right.

Clair I've also been searching a site called PGA Pros or something like that. It lists all of the courses and Golf Schools that have real pros. I have no idea who these people are, lol... but it does list their credentials.

I would love to have the $$ to send him to lunch with Phil Mickelson or John Daly but I can't afford either one of them for anything, lol.

ETA: An autographes photo of Phil is $359. Ugh. (I wouldn't buy something like that off eBay b/c I would be worried about authenticity.)

WHAT???? That is highway robbery!!

I, selfishly, would prefer to do something together. But if you aren't a golf fan then sending him off with a buddy is a true gift!

I was going to suggest looking for something in Quebec because the exchange rate would be in your favour but November ...they're probably closed or will have snow already!

I'm sure you guys have already done something like this together but one year I got Tony tickets to his first NFL game. He about died when I gave it to him. And it was in San Diego, so we spent the whole weekend down there also. Is there a professional sports team that he loves that he's never gotten to see?

I kept meaning too to get Tony skydiving for a birthday present. But now that we're about to be parents, I don't think so anymore. But, he would've LOVED that too.

What about surprising him with a few of his/the both of your best friends at one of his favorite restaurants?

Hey, John Daly comes to Fayetteville quite a bit in the fall for Razorback football games. He parks his huge motor home in front of his buddy's house and hangs out.. and I know where his buddy lives! If I was still going to be up here in the fall I'd try to track him down and get his autograph for you!

Suzy that would be awesome, lol.

labeadel, he goes to games all the time but you have given me an idea. We both like professional boxing but we've never been to a real match. I think I'll check out Atlantic City and see what fights are going on there.

I had no ideas at all! I did try... but nothing!

I'm still checking in to see which ideas I can steal though! Mo doesn't ever seem very excited by the gifts I get him, so I'd love to blow him away with one some day!
