Default where to put dress

Where did you all put your dress before the wedding? I am picking mine up tomorrow and I am not sure where to put it. DF will see it in the closet and it may get squished. The basement is kind of damp and the attic is 1000 degrees. I have no family here.

I also have to transport the dress in the car when I leave for our OOT wedding. Should I hang it in the car somehow or lay it flat over the top of suitcases?

I would lay it flat over the suitcases while traveling.

As for storing it before that, do you have a friend that you could ask to help store it?

I would also lay it flat. The dress ill end up bunching on the floorboard if you try to hang it.

As for storing it beforehand, My parents kept mine, and you don't have that option. So, I agree with Wembley. Try to find a friend with extra closet space.

I would just hang it in a coat closet or something and threaten FH with severe pain if he looks at it.

I laid it flat across the backseat when traveling.

I moved my other clothes out of my closet and hung it up in there with the garment bag over it. I told FH if he looked at it I'd kill him. He didn't look....

I agree with the others. And if there is no one you can rope into storing it for you you'll just need to hang on to it.

What I've seen done is covering the dress with a duvet cover and hanging it on a door. I've seen this done with quite a full dress so it would stay in shape with the crinoline underneath it... . Again, it'd be "Look and I'll kill you" for your FH You've got less than 2 weeks to go so hopefully he wouldn't be too tempted.

I kept my dress at the brodal shop until the day before the wedding. I went straight to the hotel where people were staying (I was staying there too that night) and laid the dress across the backseat.

Ditto about the bridal shop-mine's been living there since I bought it and will continue to until right before the wedding. With my pets, disorganized closet and whatnot, I just don't trust it, and I know they have room for it there. Do you have to pick it up, or could your bridal shop keep until just a day before or so? I know you're close, but...if that's a possibility?

Indigo will probably have to collect it a few days before the wedding because it's out of town...

Mine stayed at DH's grandma's house until 2 days before, when we moved it to the church.

Since that wont work for you. Put it in a room he doesnt go in, or just threaten him. As for traveling with it, It would probably be best either on your luggage or in the back seat.

Can you just hand it in a room and cover it with a sheet so he can't see it?

Mine hung in our guestbedroom closet with a heavy garment bag over the whole thing (for only a week). I have 4 black cats so if there was even the slightest opening it would have been covered in cat hair, . I think I remember someone suggesting leaving a slit so that it can "breathe". Wynelle maybe? Can't remember, it was a while ago.

I would lay it flat in your backseat while traveling.

I had to hang mine right in our main hallway b/c it was so long it wouldn't go anywhere else in our 1 BR apt. It was in a white garment bag and it hung there for a few months. Be happy you just have to figure out where yours will go for a week or so! And yes, when you're in the car, just lay it in the backseat.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will just hang it out in the open and just cover it up really well. I hope they put it in a good garment bag for me. I would bring it to a friends but they all have kids and I would be worried about them messing with it.

Oooo Sticky fingers & wedding dresses do not mix! You're quite right!

Will you have space to have it on the back seat? Won't your little boy be sitting there?

Yes my little boy has the back seat. I will have to lay the dress over the suit cases in the back back. I have a Toyota Matrix so there is the whole hatch area in the back. I think my car is going to be really full

Well, I am leaving to pick up my dress in a little while. Wish me luck that it fits!!!

bang head

Well the dress was to long. If anyone remebers my post from way back where I was really upset becasue they did not have me come in for a 2nd fitting to make sure the dress correctly. Well, now they were b****ing that I did not come in earlier to try the dress on. They said that they would never have told me to come in this late to try it on. I told them that I wanted to come earlier but they said that the dress would fit and not to worry about it. I even dealt with the same lady!!! She swears she did not tell me this. So I guess I am now insane!

I also think the top is too loose. It will not fall down but when I bend over there is a gap. She said there was no way to take it in more and it was supposed to be like that?? I got a strapless bra to wear to take up that room.

It seems a sad fact that wedding dress shops seem to have the worst service. I guess they think they can get away with it coz there is very little repeat business, but I doubt you'd send any of your friends to that shop now.

I'm sure it'll look beautiful. But the sheer cheek of that woman, saying it was your fault!
