Our Engagement party
Hey Everyone,
I haven't posted in awhile so I thought I would let you know how things were going for David and I's engagement party...
IAM SO EXCITED First off!!!hehehe
We believe at this point (One week before) Everyone who will be attending has already let us know! The party is July 22, Next Saturday! The invite list was roughly 60, and we have a a "yes" response of 40 people. I think thats great!
David and I originally decided we would only have 30 people, with a budget of $300.00 WOW let me tell ya, It sure didn't work out that way...
We have more people comming than 30, and as it sits now, the party is nearing $1000.00. My parents being the kind people they are insisted on paying for this! I thought that was awesome....But does this EVER give me some insite of what a wedding not to mention the financial aspect of things would be like...LADIES I'M IN TROUBLE...lol
Dave and I wanted something very laid back, SO for some advice I called an old friend who has now been a wedding planner for acouple years. She told me that "Laid Back" is good, but that Dave and I needed to be a little more than "casual" for our dress codes, and that we should stand out as the "Bride and Groom" But still feel comfortable and TOTALLY ourselves...
SO my mom and I went out early this week and got me an outfit...a "Jayme" outfit...Cute, a little dressy, But very me at the same time...
And Dave....LOL, Well, we'll be shopping for him on friday...Men!!!! the day before. He's gonna look HOT!!!
We are holding this party at my parents house, It's a very large house, with an amazing back yard! Again, because we wanted to keep it casual it is starting in the late afternoon, and will probably carry-on until 10-11ish (we'll have to see) It's an open house (People are not obligated to stay, they come and go as they please) With Some beer, and wine & of course a BBQ. Tiki Torches lighting up the backyard, good conversation & laughs!
Needless to say, Iam pleased with EVERYTHING so far (Other than our budget blowing part) I think it will be an awesome time...
Well, I think thats all for now...
I will definatley post pictures as soon as I can!
But, I do have a question for you guys, People are asking us for gift ideas...Is this something that happens at engagement parties? I understood that people DO NOT bring gifts to the party?
Thanks for taking the time to read this...
Jayme

Hello again
It is crazy just how quickly your budget can run away with you, but you seem to be very fortunate with such generous parents!
On the gift issue: People have brought engagment gifts to every engagement party I've been to... But it may be different over here. Quite a lot of people over here are getting engaged years before they can afford to be married, so they are setting up a home together beofre the wedding I generally give a cash gift for E-parties...

I didn't expect gifts at my engagement party either. But, I got a few.
The party sounds like it will be a blast. I can't wait to see pics.
