2nd year anniversary
We are trying to pay stuff off and be debt free (-house and school) and as you know this spring has been full of new bills we were not planing on. Brothers wedding, medical and land surveying, etc..... all big $$.
We had started out wanting to go someplace special again.... like last year when we spent several days in downtown (or near there) Seattle. We had toyed with Houseboats, Newport Oregon, or someplace else special.... now I am thinking we would be better off not spending the money to go on a mini vacation. Would that be wrong to be thinking of money????? Am I being a stooge?
Anyway, I was thinking of telling Bob we should still take a couple days off work, but instead of going anywhere, setting a budget and staying home. Doing day trips or whatever........ What would you all do?

I would do the whole stay home thing, and plan a nice dinner for the two of you and maybe a movie. A night on the town, do something you normally wouldn't do.

It's NOT stingy to think about money, even for an anniversary. You two have had a lot of unexpected expenses which can seriously drain anyone's disposable income. I would take a day trip somewhere if you can, or as DG suggested, do something in your own city that you wouldn't normally do. Have a nice dinner at home and then maybe go see a comedy show or a local play. (We have a couple local theaters here and I've never been.) It's not about where you are, it's about who you're with and what you're celebrating. However if you really want to go somewhere, come on over!

As you well know, is not the most important thing. BUT, it is a necessity in this world.
If you are feeling tight from unexpected expenses, spend the time cuddling at home. Or, go on a short camping trip, or a daytrip to a National Park or public museum, and just enjoy the time with each other. Like H said, "it's not about where you are, it's about who you're with and what you're celebrating". There are many things you can do to spend time together that won't break the bank.

I don't at all think it's stingy to consider finances! There are probably interesting things you can do right at home that you forget about because it's where you live -- I'd do the day trip thing and spend the rest of the time at home, doing what you and Bob like to do best.

You you don't have to go on a trip for every anniversary. My husband and I have celebrated four anniversaries, and we have yet to go out of town for any of them. We usually just go out to a nice restaurant and perhaps a movie or drinks.

Thats what I am thinking. My folks never went on trips, always just a evening together.
As much fun as it would be to rent a boathouse or go to the beach for a few days, we don't need to and there is at least one restaurant in town we have been itching to try, so that sounds like a great plan. And as Bryanne said, spend the rest of our time doing what we enjoy most!

I took a week off work and did absolutely nothing. I slept in, went shopping, drove around. It was great not having to go to work and just lounging around. Definitely do something like that.

That's just what I was thinking! You & Bob know how to entertain yourselves at home!
