Default engagement ring

What do I do with my engagement ring during the ceremony? I don't think that I am supposed to wear it. Should I have someone else hold onto it?? What did everyone do?

I wore mine. Right before the ring part, I slipped it off my finger onto my right hand. After Jerry put the wedding band on, I slipped it back on. Jerry didn't even notice.

A lot of women either don't wear it or wear it on their right hand until after the ceremony.

I wore it. DH put the wedding band in front of it, and after the ceremony I turned them around, so for the pics they were in the "right" order.

I've heard of guys trying to put the wedding band on the wrong hand or the wrong finger during the ceremony. I don't know if that really happens, but DH knew he was supposed to put it on the same finger that the e-ring was already on, so I didn't have that problem

When I was the MoH, I wore the bride's e-ring on my left hand (maybe it was an omen? I did have fun wearing it for the ceremony!).

For my wedding I may wear it on my right hand or give it to the MoH to wear it during the ceremony.

I always thought you were to have the band and e-ring welded together before the wedding and that the groom would put the "set" on your finger during the service. Hmmmm.....now your making me think.....by the way...what comes first (closest to the heart, e-ring or w-band?) I can't remember.

Wedding band on first... so it's closest to your heart.

Oopsy, then mine are on backwards!! My stone is set really high and it catches on less things this way- for some reason!

I had my "witness" ( civil ceremony) hold it for me.

Like Lizbet I wore my e-ring and Bob put the wedding ring in front of it. I wore my promise ring on my right hand. My sister in law that recently got married did the same thing. As far as custom, I really don't know. This might be a question for Sharon.

I never heard that one before. I think I am going to wear my e ring on my right hand.

I wore mine on my right hand, but I didn't think anyone would notice... But when I got the photos back you could see it in some of them!

Some people do that, but I didn't want mine soldered. In the future, when dealing with kids and such, I may want to wear just my wedding band. It doesn't stick up as much, so it doesn't scratch people as easily.

Same with me...plus my band is fairly elaborate..so I could wear it lonesome...most people I know do have it soldered, but then you aren't supposed to wear it before the ceremony. I wore my e-ring on my right hand and after the ceremony put it on my left.

I wore my e ring on my right hand during the ceremony and then switched it right afterward.

I also did not want mine soldered, as I want to be able to just wear the band sometimes too.

I am also going to have mine welded together. i love the look of it better like that and i dont want to have to worry about one band sliding to the side or something like that so in the pictures it will sit perfectly.

We also have a family tradition... my grandfather and grandmother came over from germany (where they wear their wedding bands on the right hand) and he went to work in the black hills gold mine in south dakota... to honor our german background since we're still very close with the family over there we exchange two rings in the ceremony.

"with this ring" <place a black hills gold ring on right hand>
"i thee wed" <place wedding band on left hand>

my parents did it, my brother/sister in law did it, and we've bought ours so we can do it.

I didn't wear my e-ring before the ceremony. I gave the BM both it and the band for Chris to put on. And he did put them on backward, but I switched them and no one noticed. Also, I was the one that put his on the wrong hand....oops. Lol

My MOH (sister) wore my e-ring during the ceremony. I put it on immediately afterwards.

Geeesh, something else to think about.

I ended up getting two bands... one for either side of my ring. How ever am I going to figure out how/what to do with them for the ceremony?

THAT is a good idea! Now I have a question of my own concerning garters - do you wear just 1 or 2? My mom bought me 2 but I have no clue on that. I know one is meant for memories, and the other is meant for the garter toss.

I have 2 (ordered my dress on Ebay and the lady included EVERYTHING -- crinoline, shoes(too big for me), veils(2!!), gloves and garters). I wasn't sure why there were 2 either, but since we are not having a garter toss I was not planning on wearing them, but maybe one would look nice in my scrapbook? I was planning on wearing them on my honeymoon with my lingerie since they are almost the same shade of blue

My E-ring and wedding band do not go together. I probably won't wear the E-ring anymore because I am tired of having a green "tattoo" around my finger The wedding band has little diamonds in it (so pretty and fits great -- even goes over the lace gloves I am wearing).
Maybe I will put the E-ring in my scrapbook, too!!(actually, i just did!!!)

For those who had a garter toss, do you wear both or just one???

I wore my e-ring on my right hand and then when the ceremony was finished I put it on my left hand so it was 'protecting' my wedding band!

I still havent taken my wedding ring off since Damon put it on my hand on my wedding day!

I have never heard of having your rings welded together!!!

Like Lizbet and the others when I have kids I want to be able to just wear my wedding band as my e-ring will end up scratching my babies!

I think the two carters is so you can keep one on your leg and your new husband can still take one off your leg for the toss!
