Unhappy We can't throw bird seed or have bubbles

Since we are getting married at a city park, they won't let us throw bird seed, since they don't want to deal with the seeds planting themselfs. We can't really do bubbles since we live in windy Wyoming, there are slim chances that a single bubble would ever be blown. Is there anything else that can be thrown? A resonable price would be benneficial. I was thinking of lavandar, but I think that would have a possibility of planting as well. Or should we just not have anything trown at all???

We was in the same boat! The Church didn't allow any thing to be tossed on the property. We ended up doing a balloon toss it turned out great. I wished we would of had more balloons but the kids really enjoyed it and most of the adults got a kick out of it. We just keep them in the back room until we was getting ready to leave then 2 of my sister passed them out. A few others on here also did the same thing.

Ann did flower petals and in the pictures it looked beautiful. I'm sure she could tell you more about it though...

I just went to a wedding in germany and they had a balloon release but it was a little different....

each person got a card when they walked into the ceremony and they filled out a special wish on the card along with their name. on the other side of the card, it was preprinted with the couples address and instructions for the finder to send the card back to the newlyweds. i thought it was a very cool idea since the cards could be sent back from almost anywhere and would be a good scrapbook idea.

It's pretty popular over here to have flower petals at the moment. They are 100% bio-degradable, so most places don't have a problem with you using them. Plus they look pretty as they flutter in the air!

Our photographer had worked with a few different kinds & recommended Delphinium petals rather than rose petals because they stay in the air a little longer & so you get more of a chance for photos... We went with cream shades because I was frightened that anything brighter might mark my dress if the weather was damp...

They photos turned out even better than I hoped, but I have to say I think the photos of LJ's balloon release look great too!

ETA: We just asked the photographer to gather all the women guests together for the photos and the ushers handed out the petals. I wanted to involve all the women because that way even the ones who wouldn't be required for any of the group shots would still feel important & included in the photographs...

We are using "wedding rice" it's fake rice in heart shapes that is safe for birds and water soluble for clean-up it also crushes so there's no slipping factor. It's not too expensive about $13 a bag at Michael's for 100 scoops.

I really like this idea, however I beleive i will need to check with the city ordinance to make sure it is ok to do a baloon release within city limits (I'm pretty sure it is, but i still want to be carefull). I talked to Ian, my finace about it, and he said we could attach postage paid postcards, it may be a little pricy, but we have a better chance of getting them back that way. We really like the idea.

I will also look into the flower petal idea, especially the delphinium. I was thinking roses, but Ann looked so pretty with the delphinium, we will definatly look into that as well.

Thank you for all the help so far!!!

I did the postcards as RSVP and I paid about $20 for them at Joann's and I printed my self then I had to pay postage but thats only .24 each. U don't have to put them on all the balloons. Give each of your guest a few balloons but only one card. I checked with my city I had heard you had to have a permit but they just lol at me.

I did a combo of bubbles and rose petals. I'll try to get up a pic so you can see for yourself how the rose petals look in the pro photos.

What about releasing two white doves? I saw that done at only one wedding, which makes it more memorable than same ol' bubbles or flower petals. They kept them in a pretty white decorated cage in the foyer of the church, kind of for display until it was time to release them outside. Most people thought it was a costly touch, but after you figure in how much having something to toss for each person would be & all your time in doing individual packages, doves are better!

Another thing I've seen only once is to release monarch butterflies- which in themselves are very symbolic. They come in individual tiny boxes & it's amazing to see a sky full of orange around you. Plus, it's good for the environment. You order them on-line & they are shipped to you.

Also, if your ceremony is letting out around dusk or later, when the birds & butterflies are sleepy :0) sparklers are really fun & fitting if it's a July wedding!

The dove idea is something we may look into, or a mixture of grass and lavander seeds (we are still waiting on approval from the venue for anything really)

We can't do butterflies because Ian is terrifed of moths and butterflies (I forgot to mention that earlier). I think it's kinda cute. And the cerimony is going to be at 2:00 in the afternoon so sparklers wouldn't work either. But those are both really awsome ideas if I could only sue them.

That disintigrating wedding rice might be an option (I think someone mentioned that). One thing about the park-if you're considering a balloon release and they have these other restrictions, you might double check with them. I know there are concerns about the balloons effect on wildlife in the environment, so make sure they'll even let you do it!

Let us know what you decide!

We have talked about the butterfly toss b-4 on here. They can be a bad ideal! I know you don't want to do them but I just thought I should tell some of the bad points on them.
*If it's to cold they will all die.
*You will never know if they are alive till your guest go to release them.
*When they fly out where are the going to go on the floor in shock or are you brave enough to think they will fly.
*Is it the right time of year for the butterfly's to be able to live in your town.

Flower petals would be a beautiful idea! Also, someone on another thread was thinking of trying herbs. They smell nice and certain herbs have different meanings or significance. Another idea you could try is to have everyone wave ribbons about. There's a scene at the end of Sense and Sensibility where the children wave ribbons tied to the end of short sticks at the wedding. I always thought ribbon would be beautiful!
