Default Name Change....

When you change your name are you supposed to ask the Department of Vital Stats for a(n) new or updated birth certificate?

I never heard of that and I obviously didn't do it. I was reading the name change kit thread and one of the links mentioned it.

i don't think you are supposed to get an updated birth cert.... i mean, your name change is exactly that.... changing your former name into your married name... the birth cert represents the old name. it's the other stuff like social sec card that it is particularly helpful ot get the new name on. but i never heard of doing anything else w/ the birth cert (other than possibly showing it for proof of id)... sorry that's not more helpful!

Yeah I think the only reason you'd need to get a copy of your Birth Certificate would be to proof of identification.

You can if you want, but you don't have to do it.

I don't think I would want to do that. I don't mind changing my name legaly, but I don't think I want to change the name I was born with. I would almost feel like I was loosing a little bit of my self or my childhood or something. I can't really place it. I think I may just be very sentamtal.
