My yucky cake
Here's a pic of what we wanted the cake to look like...
Here's what my cake looked like:
Not exactly what I wanted. And the cake sucked too! We were so excited for this darn cake, and it was dry and didn't taste that great. My mom is supposed to be writing them a letter. She was with us at the tasting and there at the shop, their cake was AMAZING. This one, not so much.

Your cake is pretty! Although I will admit it doesn't look a lot like the picture. Your cake just has a lot of thicker decorations.

It looks like the cake may have been decorated by someone who is still learning the finer points of decorating. It is pretty and I am sure that your guests found it very attractive. If the cake was dry, that can be an indication that it was made several days in advance and frozen. A frozen cake is easier to decorate, but it can also dry out in the freezer. Another possibility is that it was refrigerated. There is a baker in my area who does that and, though she spends hours on the decoration, the cake tastes dry and flavorless, defeating all her hard work.

well, the other thing I thought of is that the "model" cake looks like it may have been frosted with fondant, it looks too smooth and the edges too rounded to be buttercream. I do think the piped decorations must've been done by someone without a lot of experience, because they're too thick compared to the model. I don't think the end result was ugly, just not as pretty as the original.
It's too bad about the cake being dry, they should reimburse you in part or offer something as an apology...

Your cake was still very pretty though!! It sucks that it didn't taste all that great, I would definately let the people know you were less than satisfied!!

Sorry your cake did not turn out the way you wanted it. They should have been able to tell that the tip in your original pic was a small tip and not a lg tip like you ended up with.
