applause Playing Wife

Does anyone else get a strange kick out of being someone's wife?

I don't know if it is unusual in this day & age, or if I am old fashioned but I've been having a great time being married!

I spent most of the evening yesterday spring cleaning our bathroom (which had been sadly neglected while I was planning the wedding) and really enjoyed myself! Is that really pathetic???

I spent this morning doing our grocery shopping (which isn't exciting but not too bad either...) and this afternoon I made a batch of bread dough! I made fresh pizza for our dinner, and extra so I could take one each for our BMan & MOH, and my MIL. And I have a loaf of bread in the oven so he can have nice sandwiches for lunch at work tomorrow...

Is it scarey that I'm having a ball doing this? I don't even mind ironing his socks!

I think maybe it is because we have been together yet still apart for sooo long. And now I have him for keeps! I've probably been ready to live with him for the last 10-11 yrs (since I got my first place) but we decided to wait till we were married.

And I'm loving it!

It is so nice to have him kiss me goodbye every morning. To have dinner with him every night. To go to Chapel together on Sundays & spend time with his family... Yet still to have space to chill out seperately (he'll watch sport & I'll go read...).

Maybe this is just the honeymoon period but I've got to say I'm enjoying it so far!

I'm not going to kid you on & say that we haven't rowed at all! Of course we have. We've had the same petty little rows that we always did have. And I think we always will have... But the point is that we're really together now.

Like Heather was saying, it feels more like we're on the same team now

We lived together for 5 or 6 years before our wedding, but there is a calm that has come over me since the wedding. I LOVE it! I do still have moments though where I say, "Holy Crap, we're MARRIED!"

I am happy to hear that after so long you guys finally get to live together and be husband and wife. It rocks, IMO!! And it's good that you guys take your time to be alone too. I think that that is key. Many people don't realize how important "alone time" is for the relationship.

Awww, I felt that way to a degree when Alan and I bought our home. But I'm still missing something I can't put into words (after all it's really just a piece of paper)

BUT I imagine that I will feel much like you are after the wedding... I am excited!!!

IRONING socks, girl? You really ARE enjoying being married!

I'm so happy you're rocking out being Mo's wife!

I've noticed the same thing, sort of. I've always been lazy when it comes to housekeeping...well, partly laziness and partly cuz I hate sneezing up a storm everytime I have to sweep... Anyway, I've noticed I'm being a LOT cleaner now! weird...

I HATE cleaning and will slack for myself, but I am trying to get the apartment clean knowing FH will be staying here after we are married. he keeps saying he is going to mess it up though!!!

I can't wait to be living with him and doing the little things for him like making dinner and bringing him dinner when he's on 24 hour staff duty (I've already been told he's going to ask me to do this, but I don't have to be asked!!). Not sure I will be ironing socks, though As of now I don't own an iron (it's on the registry!!).

Ann, I'd like you to clean my bathroom, too, but you don't have to make pizza!!! In fact, i'll make YOU pizza if you clean my bathroom!!!

awww, ann!!!! i'm glad you're loving the domestic life as much as i am!! lol
it is amazing how secure it is to just be there, together, in this very final sense. sometimes rickey and i just muse out loud..."man, we're really married!!" and he gets just as much of a kick out of that realization that i do!!! but you'r a better wife so far than me... i've had my wheat mill for ages and still haven't baked fresh bread yet... he keeps waiting. it's just been so hot and my energy levels so low, that it's a miracle i can keep the dishes clean!! and the good news is you're not just "playing" wife.. you really are mo's amazing, personal, forever wife!!!! yay!!!

This brings up something interesting Bob and I have talked about recently...... Sorry to HJ your thread Ann! Anyway, when people ask you if you enjoy being married how do you respond? What would you think if someone said oh it's nice, and then acted like there were problems in a very new marriage? Am I odd to still think being married is the best thing since sliced bread? I can't think of anyplace I would rather be at this point in my life. I love my DH and I know he loves me....... So ROCK ON Ann, I love hearing about other brides that enjoy married life!

YAY ANN!!!! I totally feel the same way! I love introducing Chris as "my husband" and hearing him call me "his wife"!

I love cooking for him and coming up with tasty things so he isn't bored! I love giving him backrubs and footrubs and doing his nails ( ok so I've turned him into a metrosexual!!!) and fussing over him when he isn't feeling well!

And he takes such good care of me! Does 90% of the housework, makes my coffee every morning, won't let me walk on the sidewalk closest to traffic, holds my hand everywhere we go! Just all sorts of things!

Ironing socks???? Are you insane?? Do you iron knickers too?? LOL. I like ironing too...it's rather relaxing!!!

Chris says "hi", "YAY" and he loves married life too!

Um slightly

Just to clear the sock issue up: he doesn't particularly want them ironed its just that they fold a bit neater if you press them quickly first

And on the knicker topic: if it is cotton it'll get ironed! If it's man made I'd be too scared to melt it! But yeah, I would try to iron them at least (Mo told me off for trying to iron his, so now his can just stay all crumpled )

Mo thinks I'm crazy for ironing my cotton pjs too! I have a few little short sets & they just feel nicer when they are all ironed.

Maybe I'm mad, but I like to iron. I get an odd sense of satisfaction when I have a whole pile of clean, freshly pressed laundry!

Chris says "Ann.....step away from the iron....." LOL

Actually I love staying in hotels with freshly laundered sheets! I'd iron them if I could!!

I set up the ironing board in the living room, have the tv or tunes on and go to it! They look so nice all pressed! I get that!!

Right now I'm perched right on the edge of my computer chair because I'm sharing it with the laundry basket which is filled to overflowing with the ironing I was going to do today before I decided to go crazy in the kitchen

... It's all about the things you fail to mention!

(Seriously, my arse is aching from trying to perch it on an inch of chair! )

I'm with you Ann - I love playing wifey!!!

I love being able to take care of my husband and cook and clean for him! Over the last year I have really turned into a bit of a domestic goddess and usually do some sort of baking every weekend, I want to start knitting and learn to sew too so that when we have kids I can make them things!!

I love it!

We lived together for three years before we were married but once I become Damons wife there must have been a switch in my head that all of a sudden turned me from messy slob to being quite good a good little wifey and very house-proud!

ann, i seem to relate more to your basket of "to-do" laundry!!! i mean, my intentions are golden, then i get so jiggered after cleaning the kitchen that i have to sit for a while, then next thing you know, rickey's home and it's dinner time... so the ironing waits for a few days...usually til he has to go out of town and needs all his dress shirts pressed!!! i definitely do not iron socks or unmentionables, tho!!! (claire--i love ironed sheets, too!!! but that is way too much of a hassle!!) rickey can't believe i actually fold my underwear, but he insists i not do his b/cs "that's jsut weird." apparently guys like 'em crumpled!! lol
hey emily, i just taught a friend of mine to knit yesterday! and since london is ever so much more exciting than memphis, i think i should come over and teach you how to knit!!! lol i keep thinking i should make the baby somehting, but i'm in the middle of a sweater for my friends christmas gift (er, yeah, i'm a little late), and i have this thing about finishing projects or they'll never get done! so anyway, maybe closer to time when baby can wear warm things due to the winter, i'll have a little knit cap or something!!!
ann, i was craving some of that homemade pizza last night!!!!

I hope I become more domesticated too. I think it will get better because we'll be moving into a house and will have lots more space, but we'll also be less busy and I'll have more time to clean and do my wifely duties.

Confession: I will do laundry whenever. But when it has to be ironed, I just take it to the cleaners! I hate ironing and I'm not very good at it!

But I do enjoy cleaning, cooking and all the other wifely duties!

My wonderful husband does most of the cleaning and the laundry. Reading this post makes me feel like such a bad wife!! And there is no way in hell that I would iron a whole bunch of stuff at once!! And if one of Tony's shirts or pants needs ironing, then he does it himself the night before he wants to wear it. I do usually do the cooking though, since he cleans up the kitchen 90% of the time. Does that make me sound any better?
