Candle holders?
OK ladies, let me know what you think of this. To save some money, I was thinking about using baby food jars as candle holders and wraping them in ribbon. I found some that would be perfect, and match my colors. I don't have any pictures yet, but I will try to take some. But for now, what do you think of that idea?

I think that could be a great option to save money if you have access to old baby food jars. You can get candle holders at WalMart for about 88 cents each which is cheaper than baby food.. I think the jars would look great wrapped in ribbon though!

I love that idea!! It's different, they're a great shape and size. If you're getting them used, it's a great economical choice!
Make one up so we can see your demo model!!

The ladies locally that make candles use baby food jars. I think it would look great.
One suggestion to get them for free is to join your local freecycle.org group. I know here there are always babyfood jars being offered, or you can ask on the group listing and get responses.
Our Big Lots (McFrugals or Pic-N-Save... depending on where you live) has simple candle holders for like 33cents each.

If you have an Ikea near you they have cheap little cnadle holders too. I can't tell you the exact price there, but over here they start at 20p each! (that's about 35cents!)

I'm actually more concerned about safety. I think candle holders have to be made from a special glass (tempered glass) that can stand up to the heat from a candle - an ordinaly jar would probably crack (literally) from the heat. You can get inexpensive, plain votive holders and dress them up to suit your wedding, so you can still have your personal touch.

I don't agree Maggie, baby food jars are baked at a ridiculously high temperature in the factory to kill off any possible bacteria.
My family makes a lot of home made jam (and you have to purify the empty jars before you add the jam). We normally bake them in a really hot oven to kill off the germs & we've never had a baby food jar crack on us.
I can understand why you'd think that, but it has certainly never happened in as long as I can rememeber...

The reason I thought of baby food jars is because I have a 5-month-old. So I don't need to get them from anywhere. I went to Wal-mart last night and got 4 different ribbons.
This one it kind of see through. It has pink and orange flowers on it.
This one is see through on the top and bottom and has orange stiching at the top, bottom, and in the middle.
These I would get both the pink and orange and use both on all of them.
What do you think?
PS-sorry about the large pic. For some reason, it wouldn't resize.

I think it's a great idea, particularly since you already have access to baby food jars. What a great way to recycle!

I think you are on the right track. I can't decide which ones I like. I like the floral ribbon... but it is pretty sheer, so then I think I like the others since they are brighter
You could always use them all.... I have a pic from a post to CW that used different ribbons let me see if I can find it...

I do like the baby food jars, but seem to be missing something. I still have the first baby food jar my daughter ate from. A friend's mom decorated it for me. This is what they look like now. You may be able to do somehting like this for your wedding.
Just an idea for you.

I think they look great! It's such a great idea. I think you should use all of them and mix and match the ribbons. Good job!
