scratching chin When to send

I will be getting married on Aug 4 2007. It is the long weekend. When should I send the save the date cards and the actual invites?

I think Save the Date cards can be sent out up to a year before.

Invites are 6-8 weeks before.

Robyn hit the nail on the head. I would send out the invites at 8 weeks since it is a holiday weekend.

IMO, the STD's should be sent out about 6-9 months ahead of time, and the invites generally go out 6-8 weeks out.

The acronym for save the dates is a bit scary

Your best bet is to send them out at least 6-9 months in advance to give those time enough to set up their schedule and set your date in stone on their calender so that way they cannot say "Well I didn't know." or the famous "I forgot."

6-9 months sounds about right. Did you girls send save the dates to everyone or just OOT guests?

Save the dates should only be sent to those whom are coming to the wedding. If you send them to everyone then those whom weren't invited will wonder "why wasn't I invited."

I am sending them to my family and guests who were coming.

, that much I figured. I was just wondering about local guests...everyone you're planning to invite gets a save the date? I had heard it was for out of town people only.

I would think it's better for those who you're planning to invite, especially since even when you're in the same town, there's no gaurantee that you'll see them often

Um, so I'm getting married that same weekend but my question is why is it a long weekend? What holiday is then? Am I just a space cadet because I didn't know it was a long weekend.

I couldn't figure it out either. I didn't know there was a long weekend in August. It doesn't say where Tykat is from....maybe in another country it is a holiday??

I had sent mine to only OOT guests, but afterward wished I had sent it to everybody. I had a lot of my in-town "guests" asking me when the wedding was.

Invites go out 6-8 weeks before you need the final head count with the caterers.

I would allow 2 weeks before that date just in case some people lag. In our case, we need the final count 2 weeks before the wedding, so my RSVP date would be 4 weeks before the wedding. The invites would go out 6 weeks before the RSVP date.

Does that make sense? lol

STD's can go out 6-9 months before the wedding, or up to a year.

The first Monday in August is a long weekend for most companies - not all
My parents own a company and they are giving the Monday off to their employees

Huh, I've never heard of that and never gotten that day off - am I getting jipped?

I hope this doesn't throw a kink in my wedding plans since I haven't even started planning the big stuff.

Maybe because there is no holiday in August? I know that in the Army they do this --- they give the soldiers a 4 day weekend every month -- usually around holidays like Memorial day and Labor Day. But in August there isn't anything so they'll pick a weekend. Maybe the same one?

I am getting married August 12 of this year and we went out save the dates in the very very beginning of January. I just sent my invites out this past weekend, so about 2 months in advance.
