Sand Ceremony
Is anyone doing a sand ceremony instead of the unity candle? We are thinking about it because we are doing an outdoor weddiing and doing want to worry about our candle not lighting or something. (that would be dreadful, I was to a wedding recently when that happened)

I've seen that mentioned here. You can get colored sand in your wedding colors. I wish I'd thought of it for my wedding.

It wasn't me who posted about a sand ceremony....I tried searching the forums but couldn't find any old posts that described it....I could have missed it though, I'm exhausted. I'll try looking online to see if I can find a description.
ETA: Information about the sand ceremony .

We are doing a sand ceremony. We are using it as a blending ceremony with the kids. So we will use 5 shades of sand.
We got a large bottle with cork that we can place on the mantle after the ceremony.
Were you looking for wording ideas or????

I think we're going to do a sand ceremony but one that includes our families. I thought it would be really nice to have each member of our immediate family pour a small amount of sand into larger bottles (one for each family) and then have FH and I take those bottles and blend into one big bottle. I thought it was a good way to signify how much our families have helped shape who we are and that we are taking those qualities into the marraige with us.
I just really like the blending ceremony idea with kids but since we don't have kids, I wanted to do a different version of it.

This is the copy I have on individual blending ceremonies from www.4wed.net/readings.htm
Sand blending ceremony
OPTIONAL CEREMONIES
What your guests see far outweighs what they hear. I highly encourage the use of visuals in the ceremony. Not only will you delight your family and guests, but your wedding video and photos will be rich in imagery, creativity and memories.
http://www.4wed.net/readings.htm - Sand Blending CeremonySand Blending Ceremony: View Photo
We provide the use of two beautiful seashells, two colors of sand and a heart shaped bottle that you keep as our gift to you.
________ and ______ may your love always be as constant as the never-ending waves, flowing endlessly from the depths of the sea. Just as the waters touch and nourish the many shores of the earth, may your love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Just as there will never be a morning without the ocean’s flow, there will never be a day without your love for each other. You have just sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings. This beautiful union is symbolized through the combining of these two individual shells of sand. The first shell represents you ______, in all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, and the other shell represents you ______, in all that you were, all that you are and all that you will ever be. Each one holds its own unique beauty, strength, and character. They can stand on their own and be whole, without need of anything else. However when these two are blended together they create an entirely new and extraordinarily more intricate entity. Each grain of sand brings to the mixture a lasting beauty that forever enriches the combination. Please pour the sand into this common container to symbolize the union of your two lives. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be a molding of two individual personalities, bonded together forming one heart, one love. The life that each of you experienced now, individually, will hereafter be inseparably united, for the two shall become one.

I think the wording for this one is slightly different. I personally took what we wanted, revised ect... and came away with what worked for us

Other words that I found and liked
As you each hold your sand the separate containers of sand represent your lives to this moment; individual and unique. As you now combine your sand together, your lives also join together as one family.
I also found someone that engraved their big bottle with something similar to this:
“just as these grains of sand can never be separated, so will our family be” names and dates on back
I found a large bottle at a wholesale design shop that had a cork, we found small vases at Joanns and the colored sand I bought at Michaels.
We are going to put sand from the spot on the beach at the bottom of the jar and then have each of us pour our individual colors on top.

this helps me a lot too
i'm thinking of doing a sand ceremony at the reception since most of the guests will have missed the actual ceremony. i like the wordings you posted, i'm going to show my FH and see what he thinks. course, i'm not sure who we'd get to read it.. a lot of his family members don't speak the best english and none of mine speak french so we might have to do a bilingual reading
it was actually my mom's idea, she saw a thing in a catalogue for nesting vases for it. i think i'd rather find something that can be sealed but they were really pretty
