Unity Candle
So I'm working on making (or decorating, rather) the unity candle. Here's my problem...I used sewing pins (cut short) to hold the ribbon in place. Now, the stones I have won't glue/tape on b/c the heads are too round. Any ideas on how to push them in farther? I've tried everything I can think of, and it's not working. (Mind you, my original idea of just stones was working just fine until FH decided to finally voice an opinon on something.....)
The picture's not the greatest, and that's navy ribbon (it looks black to me).
Need ideas please, I'm about to throw the thing across the room.

If you want to push the pins in farther, you could try pushing them in with a finishing nail or something. Just put the nail in place and tap it with a hammer. And if your using the pins with the big round heads, i'd flip the nail over then hammer it or it might bust the head of the pin. (I hope that makes sense!)

No, didn't even cross my mind to hot glue them. But I bet that'll work. I have finishing nails too, thanks Lisa. I'll probably finish it up this weekend, or tomorrow so I'll let you know how it goes.

I would do like lisa suggested and try to push the heads down into the candle, just get something flat like butter knife and push them until the heads are flush with the candle.
Also try using a tweezers to pick up the stones.

Did you figure out a way to make it work yet?
What kind of stones are they and how do you want them on the candle? I have an idea *if* I know what your trying to do.

Have you bought in of those fine pins? You can get them at a habberdashery (I don't know if that is what you call it too! A sewing supply shop) anyway, they come with flat silver heads instead of plastic balls and they are a little bit finer than normal dress making pins so they'll be even easier to push in!

Tweezers aren't working to pick up the stones, at least the pair I have isn't anyways. Lisa, they're small rhinestones and I want to put them where the ribbon crosses on the candle. The crazy glue worked when I was just gluing the stones on the candle, but since I've added the ribbon the ribbon just absorbs it. Ann, I do have those pins, that's what I used (with the small silver heads). Not really any progress, I tried using double sided tape but I'm not too overly thrilled with how it looks. Lisa, what's your idea?

Sorry, I was thinking something totally different! I really don't know what you could do to make them stick. I figured that the super glue would have worked.

They make rhinestones that already have adhesive on the back... for clothes. I wonder if they would work???

That is an excellent idea Ann. I will most definitely use that if I can't get these pushed in more. Who'd have thought decorating a candle would be this complicated? Lol.

So I got the bows done on the taper candles and took a pic. I should be able to post tonight, although neither of them have stones on them. I'm going to steal some ticky-tac from work tomorrow to put them on with, lol. Be back later tonight!

I think it is one of those tiny details that won't bother you in the slightest post-wedding...
Having said that, have you tried it with the same narrow ribbon you used for crossing over the rest? I think it looks fine either way, But I'd edge towards without.

I love the candles! I think it looks better without the ribbon at the bottom....I think it may be that the bottom ribbon is too thick, compared to the skinny ribbon you used around the rest of the candle.

Those look fantastic! I think I like the unity candle without the thicker ribbon at the bottom too.

Yeah, FH liked it without the ribbon too. So that's what we're doing!
Now if I can just get these damn stones on there.....

I GOT IT!!!!!!!!
I GOT THE STONES TO STICK!!!! Wooo Hooo. I used Elmer's glue....go figure, lol. Granted, they may fall off if touched too much, but I'll threaten death if anyone knocks them off! Lol. So at least that's done.
