alternative to bridesmaids flowers?
Is anyone doing something other that a bouquet of flowers for their bridesmaids to carry. I was trying to do my own flowers and loved them until today. I was going to finish them up today and I just hate them. Practically in tears I dislike them so much. I bought them on clearence about 2 months ago and now they just look different to me. I dunno, myabe I'm just having a bad day.
Anyways just wondering what alternatives anyone has done or is doing. Pictures would be fabulous!
Thanks ladies

The biggest problem with them not carrying anything is that they won't know what to do with their hands during the ceremony.
My girls carried flowers, but you may consider having each of them carry a fancy handkerchief. ...Just a random idea that popped in my head. I've never actually seen it done.

Mistey's bridesmaids carried fans.
Mine are not carrying bouquet's but a long stem with a couple flowers (silk) on them.

They could also carry a purse with flowers bursting out of it, or just a single long stem flower that they carry across an arm.

My BM had a bouquet made of just peonies, but for my FGs I went with wrist corsages on black ribbon to match the lacing on the back of their dresses. I wanted them to have their hands free in case I needed them to help with my cloak.
They had the same issue about what to do with their hands, but as they are both Catholic they had been taught to clasp their hands in church anyway
I don't see it being a problem for you to ask your BMs to hold their hands in a certain way if you choose not to have them carry anything.
I always thought it would be pretty to have them carry candles, but I don't know if that would logistically work or if it is just a nice idea

I thought I replied to this I was for sure I did but I don't see it.
The only other thing I have every seen BM carry besides flowers was the glass out of these with a candle ring of Flowers and ribbon. I don't have a picture of the final thing but here is the glass things but with out the holder.

hmmmm... the candle one sounds interesting! What about each BM carrying something that is meaningful to you and your FH? Like, say, medium/small sized bells to signify the wedding bells?
Misty - what kind of fan? I'm really interested in that option!

i dont know if i'm the only one who noticed, but it looks like this thread got posted twice, and i posted my response in the other one....
but yes, my girls carried fans. here is the pic

i had originally looked for something that looked like this http://www.spanishfans.com/ but most of those were too expensive, or shipping would've taken longer than i had time.
what we ended up doing was my MIL went to a world-market type store and they had these hideous, non matching bright yellow fans w/ flowers and pagodas adn birds on them.... we simply pulled off the yellow (they were glued to the spokes), bought nice red fabric, cut out along the yellow "pattern" and re-glued. the fans were totally cheap, like a buck or two a piece. so, instead of expensive floral bouquets, we had an unusual alternative w/ flair (i like to think!!). hope that helps

I was at a wedding where the BMs wore shawls/wraps in the ceremony, so their hands were sort of down and bent holding the shawl up. They looked really nice!

Not at all! The aforementioned "shawl thingies" (I'm almost positive that's the technical term ) kept their arms bent and tucked, and they either kept their hands sort of near their sides or clasped them in front while they were standing at the front. I thought it might have been difficult to manage the shawls and bouquets at the same time actually, so I thought it was a neat alternative!

You could also do parosols. I have seen the girls carry those where they are monogramed with the bride and grooms initials or something other cute and creative?

I have seen the fans all done up. I mean they would have little flowers on the op every so fold or so. They would also have a bunch of flowers on the bottom where you hold them with ribbon hanging down on them. Would he like that better?
