Opinions please....
I met with the florist yesterday and all the flowers I wanted are out of season in Aug. and she said I would pay an arm and a leg if I went with them unless I went with synthetic. (Wedding colors are light blue and royal blue) I"m sticking with real flowers so for my bouquet I went with cream and peach roses with light blue and royal blue delphania (i think that's what it's called) with some light blue and royal filler and some greens. Which I think will turn out okay. But to keep costs down (she quoted me $3.00 a rose) she said I could do the other bouquets with cream and peach carnations and the same light blue and royal flowers and filler as mine (I'm not a fan of carnations but I'm going with my budget here). Do you think it will look ok if only my bouquet and groom bout. will have roses and everyone else with carnations? I'm already up to $646.00 in flowers and still need to add bout's and corsages, and flowers for the cake table. My budget is $800.00. Comments or ideas are appreciated. Thanks. Mary

I think that would look great! I'm not really a huge fan of carnations either, but I have seen them in bouquets and they look pretty good!

Actually, the carnations will look better for a longer period of time than the roses will, so go with the carnations.

Sure, I don't see why not. The carnations tend to look prettier in the photos than they do in the lfesh... Their frizzly endges seem to soften in all the photos I've seen.
My girls all had different flowers, I don't think it has to be a mini version of yours.

You could also go with a mix of real and silk. I did and you can see if you can even tell.....
Of course I wanted a wild theme, that also included flowers that were very signifcant to my family too.....

i actually think the carnations would be great..i agree w/ ann, that they soften up perfectly in photographs. not to mention the filler flowers will simply accent them... and budget is very important!! everything will still tie in if the GM have carnation bout's as well. i think it will all work.

They'll be fine, Mary. You want your bouquet to be different anyway, and for your FH to have a rose bout it will be a nice tie in with your bouquet.
Just a suggestion --- for decorations if you want to go with silk flowers, blue hydrangeas are very nice

I wanted Hydrangea but the florist said I would pay out the *ss becuase it's a spring flower. So I settled for roses/carnations. I REALLY hope it turns out cuz FH wasn't with me and he's very articulate and picky! You should see him pick out his cloths for the day before work it's like going shopping with a bunch of teen age girls...

Kim, I do like your flowers and you're right, I have a hard time telling the difference. Nice color choices!

Your florist, IMHO, is wrong about hydrangeas. They bloom in the late summer and fall. At least around here they do. Maybe she was thinking peonies? In my flowers the blue and whitish hydrangeas were a freebie. The day before we decorated for our wedding I was driving my brother somewhere and happened upon a health club, they had dozens of hydrangea plants in full bloom outside, I waltzed on in and asked to speak to the manager and gave him my request to pick a few (I think would have let me pick to my hearts content) which I did. Our wedding was Oct 9, so those were blooming on Oct 7. Also, the queens anne lace I tested how long I could pick it and keep it in water before it wilted and then went out a few days before we did the flowers (on Oct 8 we did the flowers). Anyway, what you have sounds nice. I like carnations and daisy's too.
ETA: Bob can be very meticulous also!

Hi, I would have to disagree. I don't think carnations are really a wedding flower and I'm not a fan at all. I would chose anything over carnations. I just thought I'd give you my opinion since you asked and it differs from everyone else.

I don't really have an opinion about carnations. I don't love them, but I'm picturing them plain in my mind. Seeing them in a bouquet mixed with other flowers may change my opinion.
As far as the hydrangeas....I agree with Kim. I guess it makes sense that hydrangeas bloom here too in August, since we live in the same town. But we are having an August wedding and our wedding flowers consist almost exclusively of hydrangeas. The florist said she would have no problem getting them that time of year.
