Default Hate Shower Games?

I do. So do most of my friends.

So - since I'm the MOH for one of my closest friends and planning a shower, I needed to think of something to do that would keep the guests interested and occupied. So, this is what myself and the BMs came up with:

As the guests arrive, they will receive a ticket, the kind you split in half so each side has a number. We'll have two "big" prizes and twice during the shower we'll announce winning tickets. Whomever has the other half will get the prize.

For me, the most boring part of a shower is when the bride is opening gifts. I hate it, lol. I even hated it at my own shower. This is what we're doing:

We'll have an egg timer set to go off maybe every 7 or 8 minutes as the bride is opening her gifts. Whomever gift she's opening at that time will win a novelty prize ($5 or under.) Each of the BMs are buying 3 things that we would like, in case we don't get to all of the novelty gifts. I already bought mine from the Bliss Wedding Market and I got a wine stopper, a votive candle set and 2 satchels of potpourri. Small things, but very nice at the same time.

That sounds great!! I know more and more people are doing away with the games. I think what you are doing will be fun and keep everyone interested.

We did something similar with the timer and little prizes at one of my showers. It was fun and the guests seemed to really get into it. They had fun waiting to see who would be next.

At the other shower they didn't want to do traditional games either so instead they asked me a set of questions and they asked FH most of the same questions. Then they went randomly around the room asking the guests what they thought I answered and I had to guess what FH said. It was fun and I learned a little bit while we were at it.

Neat ideas, Heather!

I personally like games but not all of them. I DO NOT like Toilet Paper Dress, Safety Pins and Rice, and Pass the Salami/Sausage.

Get two bottles of Champagne. Drink one bottle. Take the empty bottle (washed and dried out) and fill with personalized M&Ms done in the wedding colors. Count the number of M&Ms in the bottle. Be sure you are sober when you are counting, or you may have to eat the M&Ms and start counting over. Person who guesses closest gets other bottle of champagne; second closest gets the bottle full of M&Ms.

www.mms.com has 21 different colors of M&Ms; can select two colors per order, can put two lines with eight letters per line.

The M&M idea is a great one too, and thanks for that link. I need to get something small to fit into the paper cones I bought from here. They're a little smaller than I thought and won't fit much. If they have her wedding colors, I'll get them.

Thanks!

Oh and my girls did the toilet paper dress at my shower. I kind of liked it because first - I didn't have to participate, lol. Second - a lot of my family members had never seen it before, so they had fun with it.

Lastly - I did terrible at the "How well do you know your groom?" game. One of the questions was: "What is Mike's favorite movie?"

Now, since I've known him it's been The Great Escape. He made me watch it shortly after we met. (I loved it too...) When Brad Pitt's SNATCH movie came out, he loved that too. So my answer was The Great Escape. My MOH then announced it was SNATCH. It got kind of quiet and then my Mom yells out: (totally serious I may add) "Isn't that a dirty movie?" The entire room erupted in laughter!

We always do the envelope and have every one fill there name and address is when they get there. Then put it in a bucket or something and at the end of the night pull one out and who every it is wins a gift.

That sounds like a good idea. I havent had a shower yet but man do I hate, I mean HATE opening presents. I like getting presents but opening them infront of everyone really freaks me out. I dont know why, Im gonna get a major complex between a shower and the day after the wedding. lol I like the idea you guys are doing. I may have to give my MOH an FYI on that.

It should be fun, the bride doesn't like shower games (and neither does her Mom) so it made it easy to decide what to do. It's only 3 hours long too, so I think it will go pretty quickly too.

I am like this too. Even when FIL's come over before Christmas to give me presents, and it is just the 4 of us, I hate it. I hate being the center of attention and putting on a huge smile after every present I open.

I love the M&Ms idea Wynelle! We are ordering wedding colored M&Ms for our wedding favors; we could order some extra for the shower. I doubt we would do the alcohol part, but we could use something else in its place.

Here is one game that we did at a baby shower, but it would work at a bridal shower also. During present opening you could play Present Bingo. All guests get a bingo card where they write what gifts they think the bride will be receiving. Once the bride opens that gift, they get an X on that spot that they wrote the item. Then the first 2-3 people to get bingo wins a prize. This is really fun b/c it gives the guests something to do while opening gifts, not just staring at the bride.

OT, but I love the pre printed wedding blend of M&Ms! It's so, so stinking cute.

Maybe we will go with that in organza bags. I am so back and forth on favors it's absurd...

Hey where do you find the wedding m&m's? do you have to order it online?

We were gonna do the bridal bingo but after drawing out the cards, it seems kinda boring. i like the timer idea

for the m & m's go to www.mms.com Then you can look around and see all of their choices. I got just colored ones, half purple and half white, since my last name now starts with an m it worked perfect.
