it's been a LOOONG time!
hey guys (gals, i should say!).... i don't know many of you, and there are so many newcomers since i used to be regular on here, but welcome to all of you! yesterday was mine and rickey's 4 month anniversary of being married. married life has been just wonderful. i had a friend over for dinner last week, and she was asking if married life was just drastically different from single life, and what i ended up telling her was yes and no. being married is definitely the most different thing i've ever done. having had sisters growing up and sharing space, and then roommates all thru and after college, i'm no stranger to sharing, so that has not been hard, and rickey is such a wonderful boy that even living w/ a "boy" is not that difficult either. i have to say that it has truly been wonderful so far. not completely easy, but definitely wouldn't have it any other way now. y'all will probably remember that i am pregnant, and that has certainly changed the dynamic of our life together! we just got the spare bedroom in our apartment to the stage of being ready to convert to a nursery, so i'm very excited about getting that done. i quit my job about 3 wks ago to just be at home, get things ready, and have a little more time w/ rickey before baby comes into our world!!! we were supposed to go to the world cup for our delayed honeymoon, but my OB says travelling to germany is definitely out, so it looks like we're going to try to go to monterrey, california for a week... A) i've never been the beach and B) wine country, i mean, what more beautiful way to get away from dreary memphis for a while??? NOT that i'm excited about being huge and pregnant wearing a bathing suit in front of beautiful people!!! lol oh, just for the record, i think we're about 28 weeks, maybe 29. all dr's visits are going well, except i have gestational diabetes so i'm really having to watch what i eat, but it could be worse, so that's ok! baby is moving a lot, and i can't wait to know if this little one is going to be a boy or a girl (rickey is 100% sure it's a girl) and we were finally just able to agree on a boy's name (girl's name was locked down from the first). so we'll see!! anyway, life is moving on.... busy but good. i've missed being on here, and i think i'm going to try to become regular again, but my computer access is still pretty sporadic (rickey takes his laptop when he's travelling, and he's trying to travel a lot now so that in 2 months when baby is here he will have the luxury of being home for a while)... anyway, i've been trying to catch up on the 400 posts that have been posted since i was last on, but slowly i'm getting the latest on everyone that i knew and getting to know those i didn't!!!

I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK!
I just mentioned you in a post a little bit ago about how you haven't been on in so long!
Welcome back girl - we've missed you!!
ETA: I'll update you on me quickly so you can skip some of the 400 posts, lol. It'll take you forever! Mike and I just celebrated our 2nd anniversary. I've had a second back surgery in April - doing great. We found & bought our dream home and are still doing painting here and there and some other things around the house. We have a 4th kitty - the only girl out of the 4, she's black like the other three and her names are: FourthStreet, Princess and Little Girl. I think that about covers it for me!

Welcome back!!! I was thinking about you recently and wondering if you were doing okay with new married life and impending motherhood.
I had gestational diabetes, too. Are they having you give yourself insulin shots, or are you able to manage your sugars through diet and exercise?
When did they catch the gestational diabetes? I'm asking because this can have an impact on the size of your baby. I had it with all three pregnancies. They never caught it with baby #1 and he was 11 pounds, 11 ounces (born one week late). They caught it in either the 28th or 32nd week (can't remember now) with baby #2 and he was 9 pounds, 9 ounces (born one week early). They caught it in week #20 with my last child, and she was 8 pounds, 3 ounces (born a few days early).
If I were you, I'd ask your doctor's office to perform an ultrasound a few weeks before the baby's due. The reason I suggest this is because if the looks like it's going to be over a certain weight, the doctor may opt to schedule a c-section rather than have you go through labor just to find out that she/he's too large to come out naturally.
Sorry if all of this information is overwhelming or if you already know about this stuff. I just try to help new moms so that they don't go through all of the crap I went through with baby #1.

Hey Clairon! Nice to see you again!
I also took about a 4 month break after my wedding. Well, maybe a little longer. It's been really nice to be back. There are lots of wonderful new people on here now that I've loved getting to know! I know you will too.
I didn't know about your pregnancy! Congratulations! Sounds like it's mostly going okay, except for GD. Hopefully that won't cause TOO many problems for you and the baby. Are you guys going to find out what sex the baby is?
As you'll see by my siggy, I recently (like in the last 5 days) found out I was pregnant too. Any suggestions you may have for me, I'm soooooo willing to hear it!

YAY!!! y'all are so great... it's so nice to be welcomed back so warmly!!!!
feb, actually, i don't like my OB very much and one of the reasons is that he's not very forthcoming w/ info. part of that is b/cs i used to work in this clinic, and i was basically squeezing my visits in b/twn "real" patients.... at least i'm hoping he's going to be better now that i have real appointments. tomorrow is our first visit since i quit, so we'll see. anyway, all that to say is other than diagnosing me w/ GD and giving me a diet/exercise plan to stick to, he just hasn't been helpful. let's see, i guess i was more like 27 wks when we found out, but my sis (the identical one) had a huge baby (10.10) and her doc ordered a c-section.... i'm wondering if we will too, b/cs at my last measure, i was like 2" more than i should be per my due date. he said that could mean nothing, but that was also before my labs told us about the GD. looks like i have something to ask him tomorrow. and all moms out there: i'm ALWAYS up for any info you want to throw out...
heather, thanks for the update--SOOOO helpful!!! heheh... i still haven't been brave enough to answer any one else's posts yet, but i'll be up and running in no time, i'm sure!! lol
labeadle--CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! i'm so excited for you and your hubby!!!! you are soooo lucky to be having a winter baby! we're due in late july/early august, and it's may but already 90 degrees these days... and humid. i'd much prefer being all bundled up!!! (not to mention you get to avoid being pregnant in a bathing suit, etc!!) i'm not sure if i have any advice b/cs i'm still winging it as far as i'm concerned, but if you ever have specific questions, fire away like margie and i have done!!!!
anyway, you guys are great..... thanks for responding!!!

Definitely make sure they check the baby's size before you go into labor. My baby was 10lbs 3 oz and they didn't think there was a problem with her size until 12 hours into labor when they decided to do a c-section. FH's mother also had GD and he was over 10lbs as well.
