Default addressing the envelope

Is it a must that you WRITE the address info on your invitation envelopes or are printed mailing labels ok? I had a friend get married last summer and did really cute labels. Not sure what the rules are on this

Read the previous post. I think the general idea was that writing is best, printing directly on the envelope is OK, but labels are a no-no.
