Gift Opening
Do I have to supply brunch for the gift opening the next morning? Not many people will be coming becasue they have to drive back home (6 hours). It's just going to be at my gradmas cabin and I don't want to put her out by having her feel like she should feed people. We are in the middle of nowhere so there will be no donut or bagel shop to grab something from. Can I just schedule it after breakfast and have everyone fend for themsleves? We could even meet everyone out for breakfast and then all go back for the gift opening. Would that be ok??

Do you have a COSTCO or a BJ's on the way? I only ask because you can buy delicious muffins in bulk and they stay fresh for quite a long time.

There is no COSTCO anywhere near me and I have never heard of DJ's. I could bake a few loaves of bananna bread and then thaw them out. Or buy some of those frozen mini eclairs and cream puffs??

maybe just some snacky stuff - I dont think you should feel obliged to put anything on afterall you did just put on a wedding the day before!
Hey Wisconsin cool - I lived there for 8 months in 1997 and then again in 2001, I worked at a Summer camp both times!

Hey Indigo,
I felt obligated to have some sort of meal BECAUSE everyone was from so far away and there wasn't going to be alot of options for them to eat at before they leave for home....we only invited family and the wedding party...and those who lived in the same town as us didn't come out....but, back to point, I found a couple of breakfast casserole recipies that I liked, the kind you make ahead and then just bake....we made the casseroles on Friday morning and then just tossed them in the oven Sunday morning...plus we had a huge party for our reception, so some grubbin was good after all that

I love to cook/bake, so if I'd had a gift opening like you're going to have, I would have made stuff for breakfast/brunch. I would make things that can be done ahead of time and frozen/refrigerated. Then, you can pop them in the oven or microwave. If you want to make it even easier on everyone (particularly you and your grandmother), use paper plates, napkins, and utensils. That way, you can just toss everything in the garbage and no one has to wash a bunch of dishes.

I forgot, the other thing we did was make some muffins....we pre-mixed all the dry ingredients in big rubbermaid bowls and wrote the liquid amounts and baking instructions on top...those were easy....ditto what feb said about the paper plates and utensils!!!

I think that that would work just fine. But yes, if you are having a gift opening in the breakfast hours, then I really think you should provide some food. I think what you've mentioned would be great, as well as maybe some bagels and/or donuts... I'm thinking the ones from the grocery store would be fine like Entemann's. Just take them out of their containers and put on nice platters or trays. Oh and you could buy some fruit too. Now that I'm thinking of it, you could make this really nice without spending too much money. That's one good thing about breakfast! And then just serve some coffee and juice. Done. It's really great of you to be thinking of your guests like this and not wanting to put your grandma out.

I was going to add on that fruit would be great too. I know labeadel mentioned it, but you could cut/arrange it a couple days in advance and put it in the fridge. You could also buy yogurt for people to dip their fruit it, or for people to eat alone. Those are both good for breakfast.

I wouldn't go all out but I would have something maybe coffee and tee with some cookies. A fruit bowl would also be something really easy with some kind of dip.

We had so much food left over from the wedding that we served it for the gift opening. I think that just having some small snack foods would be enough!

I lived in Stevens Point for a winter after summer camp in 1997, the camp I worked at was up near Eau Claire in the woods, New Aurban was the closest town - it was a girl scout camp for girls from the Chicago area, I had an absolute blast and have some good friends still in WI - thats why I went back in 2001, it was for a summer on my way to moving over here, I have always talked about going back for one more Summer but I think I'm a bit old for it all now!
