Hello, I will be getting married in Oct. However, the dresses in stores are really really expensive. I am just wondering do you all plan to spend like $700 or more on your gown? Why it is so pricy? Can brides and brides-2-be share how much you spend on gown?

Hi sweetiebb - I know the price varies greatly by the designer. Alfred Angelo has some beautiful gowns under $500. I am also getting married in October, and I bought a Maggie Sottero gown for $750, which I actually thought was really reasonable. My sister bought a Maggie for her wedding last year and hers was $1200. Another friend who got married last year bought her dress at David's Bridal and spent $349. A friend who got engaged a few month back already bought her dress and spent $900, also at David's Bridal. My original budget was $1500, max, but now it looks like I will be able to get the whole ensemble (dress, shoes, veil or tiara if I wear one, and undergarments) all under $1000! I mean, I wasn't shooting for $1500, I definitely wanted to go much lower than that, I was just trying to be realistic, based on my dress shopping trips with my sister for her dress. When I tried on 'The Dress' I was thinking - 'great, I love this one so it will no doubt be out of my price range...' I was pleasantly surprised when I found it was only $750! There are a lot of dress makers who sell some beautiful dress for very reasonable prices. You can also get a bridesmaid dress in white or ivory for MUCH cheaper than a bridal gown.

I bought my dress at Davis's Bridal for about $700. The alterations in all cost $65. The viel was $7.50 at A.C. Morre. The shoes I found were $10 and the bra was $38. The slip I am borrowing from a friend. I suggest doing that or renting one, cause you really don't ever wear the slip again. My budget towards all this was $1,000 and only ended up at $820.

But a friend of mine bought her dress for $99 at David's Bridal. She had no alteration costs. She borrowed her slip. Wore no bra. Bought her veil on Ebay for $9. Her shoes were $25. She was able to keep it under $200. It all depends on her you shop I guess.

My gown cost $699, veil $150, tiara $75, and then slip and bra were like $200 together, I think.

My gown, shoes, slip and veil came to $756.81. The gown itself was just under 500. This is one of the few items that is coming in under budget.

My dress was approximately $750. It was full-length, long-sleeved (sheer sleeves), and had lots of detail work (hand-sewn beading, lace cut-outs, etc.).

My shoes were about $25. My veil was practically free because my mom made it. My headpiece was $20. My slip was free because I borrowed it from my best friend. My dress fit so perfectly that I didn't need a bra, so no expense there. The pantyhose were about $5. So, I was able to get my entire ensemble for a few bucks under $800.

Gown cost right at $800 (way more than I was planning on!) Veil I am getting made for at least half the price of the one I tried on, and tiara is $100 I think... Haven't bought shoes yet, but they will be inexpensive.

Gown was $750, veil was $90, headpeice $50.00, slip I bought on ebay for $25, bra was $50 and the shoes were free...from the bridal salon as a gift with my dress purchase, alterations are $75.00. So, about $1050 total. David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo have nice dresses though if you are not too picky. I wanted lavender detail, so I went with a designer gown.

Altogether my dress, bra, slip, tiara, and three different veils(long one down my back, fingertip length one with beading, and then the one that covers my face) all cost $900. I still have to go buy my shoes, i've ordered my garter and it cost $20 and then pay for make-up and hair costs.

Gosh, you guys got really good deals!! I paid $2K for mine at a boutique. It's super pricey, but we (my honey and I) just fell in love with it and didn't think twice. The veil's another $100 and the shoes $165 (I just got them-they're fab!!). The boutique's letting me borrow the skirt-poufer and the headpiece at no cost, though. I'm not planning on wearing a bra, since they're sewing caps onto the dress. No garter toss, so no garter. Now I just need sexy undies in ivory.

My dress was $575; I'm picking it up next weekend so I don't know yet what the alteration costs will be. I was planning for $400-800 for the dress, so I was happy with that price. Veil is $120; I wasn't planning to buy it at the shop (because they're so flipping expensive!) but I fell in love with one that had an edge detail that brought out a detail in the dress. Already have a bra (bought it last summer for a dress I wore to a friend's wedding, still fits!), am planning to borrow a friend's crinoline (sp?), no tiara (some $5 crystal-bead hairpins instead) and still need to get shoes.

A friend of mine saved like $300 on her dress by buying it through Discount Bridal Services (I can't remember the contact info, but I bet you can Google it) and I've heard really good things about them. I was planning to go through them, but I fell in love with a dress at a consignment shop and snapped it up.

So far I am looking at 3 dresses ranging from $300 to $500. Obviously this does not include alterations or accesories.

I'm having a semi-formal, more towards informal, wedding, hopefully somewhere around the beach, so I do not want a long dreamy gown for myself.

I'm shooting at under $300 for my dress. I'd even be willing to rent. I just don't have a great sentimental attachment to many material things (except my computer and car) so I'd be more than happy to get it off my hands after the wedding. I'm more of a "we must have excellent food and reception" kind of girl.

My dress was about $560, not including alterations. I think after everything was said and done, my total outfit cost was around $1000. That included alterations to the dress, turning the shawl into a veil, the headpiece, special bra, shoes, everything.

Hear hear Cru5h! I'm also more interested in having good food and wine. I trying to rent a dress, it's not like I'm planning to wear it again and I have zero room in my closet for such a huge box.

If I have to buy a gown I'm budgeting around $1000 because I know this isn't an important aspect of my wedding for me. Really hoping I can rent something for $500 or les though.

My Gown was $520.00 at David's Bridal, my veil was 17.99 at Michael's, Headpiece was 7.99, and shoes were 17.99. I hope to sell the dress after my wedding in August to recoup at least some of the money!
