Default Mother's Day Gifts

What is everyone giving Mom/MIL for Mother's Day (if anything)?

My Mom is easy. I got her a gift card so she can buy a new showerhead. It's what she wanted.

My MIL however is a different story. She's really hard to buy for. We send her flowers all the time, so I don't want to do that... again. She's not into spa-type stuff either. She's a teacher, she loves coffee, and we've bought her coffee sets in the past. She knits once in a great while so I'm not sure anything like that would be good. It's tough! I'll take any ideas.

I'm just doing cards.. Commuting to take care of my grandmother + high gas prices = no money for mothers day gifts!

We're getting everyone "Grandma" necklace pendants. Well... Jerry's Mom's will say "Nana" and if we can find one to be engraved, my SM's will say "Mimi."

Hopefully I'll be getting a "Mom" pendant

Hmmm. If got her a grandma's pendant from the cats, she may think that's an evil joke, lol.

Suzy I feel your pain. With me being on disability for another two weeks, we're trying to watch what we spend right now. I think maybe I'll simply ask her if there's anything she wants or needs...

Thanks ladies!

We went to Bath and Body works and bought some of that Cherry Blossom scented bath soaps and lotions for both of them. I also bought my mom some foot lotion from there and we bought MIL a bath salt bomb. Yummy!! That's about it!

Mom has been looking for some "summer" pajama's that aren't too warm. I found some that will match the decor of her room in the house in FL... she'll get a kick out of that I also saw a purse that was HER so I picked up that too.

I've never heard of those Shannon... I'll check them out tonight. I did send her an e-mail asking if there is anything she wants or needs so I'll see what she says.

labeadel - I took advantage of B&B's sale (5 for $25) and bought myself some new stuff. I love the Japanese Cherry Blosom, is that the one you bought or did you get the White?

I'm kind of disappointed in myself though. I have SO much lotion and body spray from B&B. Before we moved into our home, I gave a lot away and threw out stuff I no longer used, but I still have so many... I shouldn't have bought more but it's an addiction!

I'm looking to get my mom some flowers. This girl at work got a beautiful orange arrangement a few weeks ago. It had an orange lily and a peach rose and orange ribbon. My mom would love those colors, but I don't know if it is something they can do in California(like an FTD arrangement). If not I will go with a Barnes and Noble gift card.

For FMIL I told FH that it was up to him to get her something or not (like flowers) I reminded him that he had to get her a card. I'll probably send her a card myself. I got a kit to make 4 cards. I am making one for my mom from me, one from me and FH, one for my godmother and I wanted to make another for my mom from her grandkitty!!! (She has gotten cards from her {and him when he was still alive} before!!). We'll see.

My sister will be here next week and we are going to pick out a gift together. Probably something simple, a framed photo of the two of us or something. I'll send her a card this week. Her birthday is the week after Mother's day so I might combine gifts.

I'm not sure about FMIL. FH usually gets her a card and sometimes a gift. One year I got her flowers, but I haven't been too consistent about it.

My sister and I got all the grandkids together for a group photo. We're framing it and giving to our mom as a joint gift (we'll frame the same pic for my dad on Father's Day). I am going to get her something else, but I'm not sure what I'll do.

That's sweet Feb! We did that for Xmas for both sets of parents.

MIL responded and said that she would love a gift card to Friday's or Panera. We got one for each place. I think that in the future I'll simply ask them what they want. My Mom is very practical (shower head, lol) and my MIL likes to pamper herself on Mother's Day...

We actually got the in-laws a "group present" because it's both of thier birthdays and we added mothers and fathers day...because it was a slightly expensive gift...but we got a wireless weather station....it has a sensor you put outside and a little monitor thingy inside that gives the weather forecast, the temp, the humidity, the wind chill, the heat index, wind gust per hour, digital rain gauge, and keeps track of the amount of rain and hi/lo temps for the past month...great for a farmer!!

I was at B&B this weekend and tried to smell the Japanese Cherry Blossom. It had no scent to me.

Maybe that is due to allergies?

I can however smell the cigarettes that people smoked in my basement this weekend while I was away.

My sister and I got my mom a cardio kick boxing class. We signed the three of us up. We are going to wrap up her gloves and give them to her without an explanation. I bet she won't be able to figure out what they are for!!

My Mom would light a cigarette, take a big drag and then say: "Now what am I supposed to do with these? Are they slippers?"

Stranger things have happened....lol
I think it's a little presumptious (not everyone can afford to buy gifts) but everyone is different I suppose. I always get my mom something and I usually listen in advance to pick up on some clues as to what to get her, but this year I'm just getting her a dozen yellow roses (her favorite) because buying a terminal patient gift cards or knicknacks is just silly in my mind. She'd never get to use them and they would eventually disappear (my brothers wife would make sure of that) so I'm just getting her flowers to show her how much I appreciate her.

What's presumptous? That I asked what people are getting or doing for their mom or mother-in-law?

ETA: Just sent you a PM.

Change of plans....we didn't get the digital keychains - we got both Moms the NAP Slippers from Brookstone...its strange...we rarely get them the same thing...but these are perfect. There is no one on the planet (except for footless people) who wouldn't love these...so, I pray our mothers aren't the two oddballs in our universe!! His Mom is very hard to plesae gift-wise. She loves loves loves jewelry, and EXPENSIVE jewelry...that or expensive pocketbooks. KNOCKOFFS WILL NOT DO.... so we've had to put her in her place about those expectations...like, "Don't have those expectations or you will be let down"

Heather, I think Mary was referring to Lesley's post about her MIL picking out the shirts she wanted.

I haven't gotten her anything yet. Mother's Day is always weird for us. I don't know why. Oh that's right - my mom thinks I suck at being a mom and I resent her for it.

Yeah, I wasn't sure, that's why I was asking. I sent her a personal message to explain myself a little better as to why I was asking...
