Help me out here please
I can't figure out the right time to do the wedding and reception. We're very close to getting that property, and since I will no longer be near the beach, and have no desires to do a "destination" I'd actually like to be married on the property and have the reception there too.
All of our guests will be travelling in to go to our wedding. This discourages me a lot. Almost to the point where I don't even feel like bothering. But since almost no one lives around here (where the wedding was originally planned) anymore they're going to have to travel anyway. So why not make it easier on me right? Right. I know that most weddings are this way. People have to travel. I'll get over it. But wait - there's more -
The house is very far into the country and there are no lights on the road into the property. I want to wrap things up around sundown, I guess, so they can find their way out and back to their hotels. I had just envisioned partying into the night so this is probably what's bothering me. Realistically I probably won't want to party into the night with them.
I don't want a sun-up wedding if I'm not going to be on the beach. But I also don't want it as hot as the blazes of hell in the afternoon. But then it's kinda cutting it close to the cut-off time right?
*thinking*
If we choose like a late September wedding it'll still be light out at 7 even right? Soooooo if we choose to wrap it up by 7-7:30ish we could start by like... 3 right? Yeah... er something. Help.

well, it depends on how long you want it to be... my ceremony started at 1:30pm and our reception ended at 8pm (it was dusk at this point). Were you planning a luncheon reception for your guests? I think getting married on your property is an excellent idea!
(side note: DH said totell you that if you need help learning how to live in the country we can sacrifice and move there to "help you". I thought it was funny you were more worried about the bears than the mosquitos, I'd be the other way around. You can get a good pair of sturdy dogs to keep the bears away but skeeters are a PITA and I'm massively allergic to their bites)

I think that would be beautiful and very meaningful to have it on your property--symbolically and literally starting your home together. Er, yeah, I AM aware you've already been living together for years! But you know what I mean! I think it would be gorgeous. Is there ANY possible way to run out electricity--LONG extension cords (assuming the road isn't the whole 7 1/2 acres!!!! ) or a power generator? If you're wanting to party the night away, it would look pretty if you decorated with lanterns or white lights. What about luminaries on the sides of the driveway? That would be pretty. Otherwise, if daytime is easier, that would be nice. I agree with Rose that maybe the time would need to go around what kind of food you wanted to have.

Having the wedding on your property would be totally cool (although, here we go with the bear thing again...hahahaha!). My ceremony started at 4 and the reception ended at 9:30. But you are having a more casual affair with fewer people. I think that is long enough! People will leave when they want to, and if you don't have a problem with them staying later, I think it will all work out. LOL - tell them to bring their tents and camp out on the property after the wedding. It's big enough! I love outdoor wedding! It's going to be sooo beautiful. Are you going to wear the dress you already bought or look for something different? I think that dress would still look great, but I know you said you wanted to just start fresh and start from scratch.
LOVE MTGH's luminary suggestion, that would look GORGEOUS.

I was going to suggest pitching tents too. You could end the "formal" part of the reception around 5 or 6, then build yourself a big-ass bon-fire for those who want to party into the night.

My wedding started at 1:00 pm and ended at 6 pm. We did it in August.
If you want to avoid the heat, what about March? It seems that in September we have a lot of knats/mosquitos. Plus, it is hot, even a night. (as you already know LOL).
Where is your new property located? Still in FL?

I like the "big ass bonfire" idea. That sounds very fun and casual and cool.

We're planning on doing the driveway with lights right away. It's just the roads leading to the house (which is literally deep IN a national forest) are pitch at night. I feel responsible for them driving out of there at night. :/ but at the same time I think you guys are right. Like maybe the official end time could be at 7 but if they choose to hang out later with us, that's ok. We could probably put a few of them up in the houses anyway.
The date is totally up for debate. September isn't sounding so hot now that I'm thinking about it...hurricane season peak and our honeymoon could be screwed, plus the 'canes might follow us up there I want to get married next year, for sure. I hate to make it sound so meaningless but we'll be passed our original date (which was March) and I'm anxious as hell. So March is gone most likely, unless he miraculously gets his divorce finalized before then *laughing* we all know that won't happen. Then I wanted to skim passed the summer months. Early October's not sounding too bad. Well, we'll work that detail out later.
Roseprincess you guys could soooo help me. We're reading about the bears and I'm almost petrified now LOL. Especially with the boys and how they like to run all over. The owner of the place now says he's seen 3 in the year they lived there. There was a mess of bear crap on the property
The mosquitos: we've already made a pact to immediately purchase a mosquito killing equipment. It attracts them and then sucks them in and dehydrates their asses. muahahahaha! I covers an acre of area, so we'll move it closer to the party that night.
*sigh* what else? Oh yeah - I'm not SURE but I think I want to get a different dress. There was a dress (from David's bridal *cringe*) that I liked a lot, even more than the one I bought. I'm sure I could get fitted at the store and then buy it on ebay. I've seen it on there before.
Honeymoon - even my honeymoon wants have changed. I wanna tour Europe or something for a week instead of cruising. I think I'm just REALLY hurricaned out and the thought of like natural disaster makes me ill. But then again the thought of flying for 10 hours, or whatever it is, makes me sicky too. We'll see. Richy will probably still want a cruise. Gotta think of something in Europe to coax him with.

What about going to New York City? If you did early to mid December, you would be able to see all of the Christmas decorations and the huge Xmas tree at Rockefeller Center. The whole city is just breathtakingly beautiful at this time of year.

I love NYC but we were up there last year and I haven't travelled much in my adult life so I want to go somewhere I haven't been yet. Though, the thought of the handbags being sold from black garbage bags in Battery Park are tempting :/ seriously.

I'm having a "bag-party" on the 11th. If there is something you're looking for, just let me know. Not kidding. E-mail me at either of the addresses and let me know. I'll grab it/them for you & mail them down. I can take a couple pics of the ones that I have now (Coach, Kate Spade, Gucci, Louis Vitton)

I really want this:

the Cabas Mary Kate
Or

Lucille PM TST
That's probably a little too specific huh? LOL I like those styles and black would be good. The red's nice too, though.
Do you know what styles you have of Louis Vuitton or the Coach so I could see? Gracias. You can email me if you want to.

I say for the wedding- it's a good idea to put tents up, and like someone else said, whoever wants to stay can, whoever doesn't can go. They have headlights!
As for the honeymoon- I am also seriously considering going to Europe. They have cruises that go to different countries, They might sail from Greece, stop at a few islands, go to Italy, Turkey. It sounds REALLY nice. I have to convince fh to go- b/c he wants to go to a beach. But if you and Richy can do that, I say go for it!!!! You're only going to get one honeymoon!!!

Europe would be so cool! I am DYING to go to England and Scotland. *representing the Primrose clan - making gang signs with hands* LOL And I wouldn't mind hitting Spain and France, even though I don't know a lick of French, and I heard it smells like pee in Paris - but Manhattan smells like pee right over those grates in the ground. I bet it's about the same. I think Richy wants to go to Italy and that's not as inclusive as the other countries since they're just a short flight away from one another. I want to go there too, but not just there. So many choices!

Party into the night!
I agree with Cirig, your guests will have headlights on their cars. They'll be able to get out without a problem. I wouldn't let that be your deciding factor. My wedding started at 4:00 and went until 10:00, with more partying afterward. If you want to party into the night, then do so. These people know how to drive in the dark. At least I hope they do.
