My dress and lingerie question
Hi all! I'm new to the forum....
I'm getting married in June and will be wearing a strapless gown. Here's the "model" pic (they always look so georgeous), my last fitting will be in a couple of weeks and I'll be sure to post the reality pics then:
http://www.morilee.com/DressDetail.aspx?C=2&D=2891&P=1
When I was at the bridal salon for my second fitting the seamstress suggested that I consider a boned corset beneath the gown. She showed me a beautiful silk/satin brocade corset with attached garters that I tried on and all I can say is WOW! I'm a 5'5" size 8, 36C (I'm still trying to lose some weight/inches before the big day). It certaintly enhanced my natural waist and looked very sexy. My sister-in-law who is my maid of honor really seemed to love the look and of course my fiance and future hubby will probably REALLY enjoy it! My question is just how comfortable would it be to wear for an extended period? I'd really like to wear the same lingerie under my travel clothes (at the end of the reception we'll be taking a quick flight to an intermediate location before our honeymoon) I'm wondering about setting off the security sensors!! I've worn thigh-highs before but never gartered stockings so this would be a first as well.
Anyone else wear a corset and stockings? Opinions?
Thanks!
Lori!

I would wear it for a day so u get a feel for it. I have never wore one I can't stand to wear a corset so I know I couldn't handle that. Welcome to PASH!

Welcome!
I agree with LJ. I would wear it for a day and see how it feels. As far as setting off the security sensors...I can't imagine it would set them off anymore than an underwire bra, right?

Unless it is over $300 for the corset the likely hood of it having metal boning that will set of the sensors is slim. Most corsets use plastic boning.
I have a corset fetish. I absolutely love, love, love them!!! I am wearing one under my dress as it helps smooth out the look an slim my middle. It also helps enhance the shelf I have while making me feel like it won't be POPPING out.
If it is the right size it just feels secure and fitted. If you by a top of the line corset made for waist minimizing training (not my thing) it will be highly uncomfortable.
How did it feel when you tried it on? Did you sit in it? If not go back and try it on again with your dress. Take a friend and sit in a chair for like 10-20 minutes as see how you feel. If it feels like you can't breathe are pinched and uncomfortable, try a larger size.
HTH, Welcome to PASH!!

Well, even if it sets it off - they'll just use the scanner on you like they do for underwire bras - but I think you should be ok. Try it - lol walk into your local family court building..test it out. HA.
Welcome to Pash by the way, your dress is gorgeous. Whats it like to be a teeny weeny 36C - wink wink

Hey there,
I wore a corset for my regy wedding and I must say by the end of the day I was feeling quite uncomfortable in it - it was hard to bend over and just sitting got quite uncomfortable - but that was after about 12hours of wear, and also it is worth the pain a bit as your fiance will love seeing you in it at the end of the day!
the one I wore was a 32DD when I am usually a 34D so I think that probably accounted for a bit as it was a little on the tight side, so make sure you get the perfect fit!!!

Wow, Thanks for all the welcomes!
It's great to get some suggestions.
BREEZY: The corset I tried on at the shop DID have metal boning and metal garter tabs PLUS it almost cost almost as much as my wedding dress! It was laced in the back and didn't seem too uncomfortable at the shop. It definitely was posture improving. I did need help with my shoes, I had to have my SIL (she's my MOH) buckle my ankle straps. Isn't that what attendants are for
Early last week, I found a sleek alternative to the more heavily boned corset that my seamstress had suggested. It was a smooth satin style from Goddess (style 710). Its not only strapless but also a "corset" style with detachable garters. The garter tabs and stays are nylon not metal. They had a semi-annual foundation sale on so I splurged and picked this up on a whim! It really wasn't too expensive and nowhere near the cost of the real corset. I also picked up some stockings as well.
I've now worn it to work a couple of times I'm an AA so I'm up and all around the office during the day. Work is business casual and I usually wear pants or skirt sets. So lingerie is really not a priority. When I wore it for the first time I selected a sheer spring dress and the feeling was very sensual. Definitely not like wearing pantyhose at all. Over the weekend, I picked up several pairs of stockings (barely black, nude) to go with the initial taupe pair so that I can wear them with different outfits. So far I'm finding it surprisingly comfortable and the garters/clips haven't been a problem. The clips are plastic and don't seem to cut into me at all. Of course the full slip I've been wearing probably helps as well. The garters are detachable as well.
Right now I'm leaning towards wearing this under my gown and not the much more expensive corset my seamstress had me try. I was browsing the web yesterday (while at work and wearing it under a business suit and skimpy camisole with spaghetti straps) and came across MANY similar versions some that are much more fancy. I think I've turned into a lingerie monster! As someone mentioned, my fiance will enjoy the new look!
Thanks again!
Lori

I can't believe they were suggesting a metal boned corset for you. The cost alone would send most brides into shock Then having it on which can limit air supply to the lungs... I would think that combined with sticker shock they would have brides to be fainting all over the place
I totally understand the addiction though!!! (DF has has the same addiction)

Okay, you guys have made me very interested in corsets. I would love something that slimmed my waist out a little and was supportive, but was sexy enough to wear after my wedding.
Tom and I have never...you know...and we're just going to go and spend our first married night in our new home, so I really want to have something that I can wear from gown to mattress.
I was thinking of corsets and not a negligee or something because I can wear it under the gown, and because I have a tattoo on the small of my back that I know Tom thinks is super hot. And I would love to be able to wear the stockings, er, well into the night, because I have terrible stretch marks on my legs...not that Tom doesn't know that already and think I'm beautiful anyway, but I know it would make me feel more confident.
I took a look at the Merry Widow Corset from Goddess in the lace (712). Does this seem like a good purchase to you both?
The price certainly seems right.

I like the ones like that that have an underwire cup. I also like when they are cup size specifit (i.e. 36D)
The one that are sized S, M, L, 1X are really difficult for me to get a good fit. I did purchase one without underwire (fredricks) a few years ago and it has gone unused. I'm and DDD/E cup so it failed the perky boob test. (lesson learned)
The price is good on that one, you might check ebay though. A quick search showed "buy it nows" starting at apx $16. We can all afford to save a few $!!!
Also try your adult shop, they usually have a fair selection, so do Fredricks and Victoria Secrets in smaller sizes. Then you could try them on and see what you think (and how sexy you feel!)

Thanks, Breezy! I am a 38D myself, and I like the underwire support also. I will definitely check ebay!

I wore one for my wedding, and yes they are pretty sexy. However, with my dress also being corset-like on the top and having a corset underneath, I noticed during the honeymoon that my ribs were hurting. I think with the corset and the dress and all the dancing, which pushed the boning into my ribs, I ended up brusing my ribs and bit and even had some red welt-like marks. But it sounds like you've been wearing it to work and it's pretty comfortable for you. Sound very sexy too!

LOL, I still haven't! I tried one on at the store, but it was a cheapie and it kind of showed. I'm expecting my dress in this month, so once it comes I think I will probably go out in search of a good corset for it.
