need centerpiece ideas
I'm having trouble deciding what I want to use for our centerpieces. Our colors are aqua blue and sea foam green...based on the colors of the ocean. We are having sea glass in small votive containers at each table...that we know for sure. We just aren't sure what else to have. The sea glass isn't necessarily striking enough on its own. Here are some pictures of the small bowls and the sea glass that we want to incorporate into the centerpieces.
We were originally going to have a small vase of hydrangea in the middle of the table surrounded by 2-3 small bowls of sea glass. We tried a centerpiece like that and it didn't look quite right. So now I need more ideas about what else I could use in the center along with the sea glass. I am thinking about 3 white pillar candles in 3 different heights, gathered in a bunch. I also thought about wrapping satin ribbon in our wedding colors around the candles; just one strip in the middle of each candle.
Any other ideas?

I like the idea of the candles a lot.
You could try using wildflowers in beachy containers.

Your plan sounds great Take the 3 pillar candles and put them in the middle and around them put your holders with a few chips of sea glass with tea light in the middle.

sea glass is my absolute favorite ever But I don't have much advice about a centerpiece. Maybe if I think about it for a little while.

Mine too. When I was talking to my mom about it, she said "well, maybe you could get rid of the sea glass and do something else entirely..." Nope, the sea glass is the one thing I told her was staying...we have to plan the centerpieces around the sea glass.
cru5h, I bet you can walk along the beach and pick up sea glass, huh? I miss picking up sea glass...we have to order ours for the wedding.

I like the idea of the pillar candles. You need to add height to the bowls of glass and the candles would do that. Another option is a vase that is a bit taller that contains greenery, such as bear grass, and wild flowers, such as blue bachelor's buttons. That would still look "beachy."

Around here, it's sketchy. Sometimes you can find a few pieces, but then there are more times when there is just none, or the kind that hasn't been worn down enough yet. We're refurbishing a lot of beaches here and they're bringing sand in from who knows where. It doesn't have the glass in it It has some pretty shells though. I guess. It's just not as pretty as the golden FL sands I'm used to. I love finding glass wedged in with some shells. It's hard to find clear or green these days. Mostly brown But it's all good
Have you considered doing sand with the sea glass? Even if you have to do white craft sand. Maybe a layer of that on the bottom and a layer of sea glass on top of it. I think a tea light shoved in there would look really pretty too.

That's kinda cool. Maybe you could put your little seaglass cups into something larger like that?
Oh, Maroki, have you ever referred to sea glass as moon glass? I have always grown up calling it that. It sounds all romantic and beautiful But whenever I'd call it that, as I got older, people were like, "What?" I still like that name.

I've heard it called moon glass, but I've never actually used that phrase myself. I had actually never even heard of sea glass until I moved to Okinawa and our first weekend there we had the biggest typhoon in 20 years or something. Someone we met suggested we go out to the beach after the typhoon had passed....the beach was COVERED with sea glass, among other things. It was amazing. So began my love affair with sea glass. I mostly found a lot of green, blue, and white, with some brown scattered in. For the wedding I can't pick it up off the beach though....I have to order it.

How about these?? I bought some candles today and put a small bowl/candle plate underneath and surrounded it by sea glass. I didn't really like the ribbon around the candles as much as I thought I would. The candle plate is 12" wide and the candle heights are 3", 6", and 9".
What do you guys think?

Well, it is really a plate that the candles and sea glass are on, with sides maybe 1" high. So probably not water. If I did add water, it would be obscured by the sea glass because the sea glass goes higher than the sides of the plate/semi-bowl. I had wanted to look for more of a bowl type of thing, but I haven't found anything with a flat enough bottom (to fit all the candles) and a wide enough opening (for all the candles) yet. This was all I could find.

I like that! To me the candles look a little plain what do u think about adding glitter to the candles or getting candles that have some sparkle to them.

I hadn't thought about doing something like that. Do they have anything like spray glitter? That might work on the candles. Even white/diamond glitter (like the clear shiny stuff) might add some sparkle to it.
I was originally going to put ribbon around the candles to add some color, but it looked kind of...strange I guess. And I am going to go with cheap candles (because they are just for looks, they won't be burning at the tables) so I probably won't buy more expensive ones. When I figured I would need 3 candles per table and we'll have 15-20 tables, I realized the price.

I would go with the cheap candles. Is there a reason u will not be burning them? I'm sure spray paint will work look at walmarts first then go to Joann's. I'm sure u can find something! If u can't find the spray paint I know they have spray glue u could spray them and then just sprinkle glitter on them.

We aren't allowed to have open flames in our reception hall. So if I wanted to burn them, I would have to put hurricane lamps or some sort of glass container around them that is taller than all the candles so the flames weren't in the open. It is a little too much work and an extra expense. Plus, 1 1/2 walls of our reception room have giant windows, and we are having a lot of sunlight in the room, so I don't know how much extra the lit candles would add. If that makes sense.

They do sell spray glitter -- you should be able to get it at any craft store.

Oh, I'm planning on selling a TON of stuff on ebay after the wedding. My FMIL has sold stuff on ebay for a couple years, so she is going to help me sell it. I probably could even sell the candles.

I'd love to see a pic with the ribbon. I think they look just a little barron or plain. I too would like to see a bit more color or glitter... something???
I've seen kinda a faded ribbon that goes from dark blue to light or dark aqua to light... I wonder how that would look???

Maroki, I'm sorry but I'm not creative. I have to say - it sucks about the open flames, b/c those candles would look great lit. However, everything you guys are talking about sounds fantastic. I think anything with those colors, the moon/sea glass - it would just look great - I don't think you can go wrong. I do like the idea of the faded ribbon though!!

Ok, so this is just if you aren't totally stuck on the flat holders. I thought these would be cute with or w/o flame. Imagine seaglass and maybe a flower or two.
In the sand, I would place seaglass along with the shells, or instead of even.
Maybe you could incorporate some sand onto the flat disk, or on the candles you could trace pretty patterns (think swirlies or beams) with glue and then roll them in sand. That would add an interesting texture as well as another very neutral color.
