I love the bottom one. I'd put the slot in the top though. It'd prob. get covered with other gifts on the table. I wonder if I have enough boxes laying around to make that.

For cards we used a Big bird cage that we decorated with silk flowers. The cage was painted white.

Hey, LJ, did you ever finish your picure frame card box?

ETA: Ooops, just noticed your post, LJ. You'll have to post a pic after you do get it done!

I took it to my mothers so she could make the top and I for got all about it. Mom looked for it and she said it was on the bottom of a pill of wedding stuff. Here is a picture of what made me want to do it.

You might just be pushing your luck Jaqueline!

Then again, she's your mum & she's helped with everything else... I think (even at this late stage) if I said to my mum I wanted one she'd make it.

I was thinking the same thing though, you'd never see them over here so it might be another nice addition. But then, do you think everyone would notice it & realise what it is for?

these were both off ebay. With the rate of the American $ you could probably get one for a next to nothing.

the other one doesn't ship worldwide

I found another one...
http://www.azcentral.com/home/crafty...tyideas08.html

though I can't tell where the cards actually go in!

ETA: You know what? I think I'm just going to use a very pretty silver tin I have... It's got celtic knots carved into it, and it'll be big enough to hold quite a lot and all different sizes of cards... I don't want to put a hole in the lid, so I'll just print a wee notice to sit on the table saying please put your cards inside.

Do you think that'd be ok?

I'd put it on the same table as the guest book...

You don't think you could make that yourself? I think you could

3 small "photo" boxes from Target or evil old Wal Mart
prime them with...primer
paint them whatever color you want OR
you could even paint them with the textury paint from evil old Wal Mart or Home Depot so it looks interesting.
Cut the slot in the larger box before you paint so the cut won't show carboard through it.
Buy ribbon...from evil old Wal Mart or a craft store in the appropriate colors.
I would remove the lids from the smaller boxes and turn them upside down, do the thing with the ribbons individually, then glue them by their edges (and the ribbon on the undersides of them) to one another in some attractive set-up, as shown.
Large box, remove lid, flip upside down, ribbon it up, affix the stack of smaller boxes to the top. After it dries, I'd just find a way to tape the lid of the larger box back to the bottom (assuming it's painted like the rest of the boxes), or set it on something nice so the cards don't fall out of the bottom.

OOOH I thought of something else you could do...

Follow the instructions above, except lose the big ribbons, definitely get textured paint and make it look like a 3-tiered cake instead of presents. You could use thinner ribbon and glue it to the edge of the boxes like a border of frosting. And get a little cake topper. Fun.

Oh YEAH!! Could definately make. Not difficult at all.
But for the ladies on a time line in another country worried about time, thought it might be easier for them to buy!

I like the idea behind your card box. Since you like the one, what about covering your frames with satin material to dress it up and putting some left over tulle bows and flowers on it???

I'm making my card box like the 2nd picture breezy posted, only it will look like a cake (with round hat boxes) instead of presents. I bought some satin material (on sale) to hopefully cover the boxes with...we'll see how well it goes.

Have you tried looking on ebay? I'm not sure how much you are willing to pay, but when I was searching I found several people that were willing to customize wedding colors. I'm sure it wouldn't be too much extra to add deep red trim.
