Which should I choose?
I need help choosing which BC to take. I have 3 options...
FYI: Most BC contains progesterine and estrogen. Progesterine is fine to take while BFing, while estrogen will dry up my milk and cause me to have to formula feed.
First option: Nuva Ring
Contains progesterine and estrogen. Doctor said it *shouldn't* effect my milk production and prescribed it to me. I'm worried about the whole insertion of the ring thing and it's effectiveness.
Second option: The Mini Pill
Contains progesterine only. Higher risk of getting pregnant if you miss a pill or take it late. My doctor also gave me an Rx for this.
Third option: Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo
Contains progesterine and estrogen. My regular BC... I know I won't get pregnant, but it will dry up my milk.
So... do I want to (1) take the chance of my milk drying up and who knows about getting pregnant (I just don't know if I can trust an insertable ring) (2) take the chance of the BC not working or (3) KNOW I won't get pregnant, but allow my milk to dry up???
ETA: I should add that I'm not 100% sure I want to continue with BFing... so having my mlk dry up isn't a HUGE factor in this.

I voted for the mini-pill. As long as you are religious about taking your pill, and you are still breastfeeding, you should be fine with the mini-pill. Breastfeeding helps to keep you from getting pregnant, though of course it's not 100%, so I would think that a mini-pill in conjunction with breastfeeding would be a good route if you're trying to avoid another pregnancy.
Have you thought about other options such as Depo Provera, Norplant, or the patch? These may not be options for you, but I know they're out there as forms of birth control.
Since I had my tubes tied, it's been eight years since I've had to worry about getting pregnant, so my advice may not be the best advice to take.

It sounds like you are most comfortable on the bill. Is there a pill that offers all you want and doesn't dry up your milk?
What are the statistics on the ring?

If you don't take your pill at the same time every day I'd take the regular pill if necessary.

I'd say the mini pill and keep breastfeeding. Just be careful when you should be ovulating also...have him pull out or use a condom that week as an extra backup.

The ring is supposed to be just as effective as the pill.. I haven't had any problems with it, but we always use 2 methods of BC so I dunno
I say go with what you are most comfortable with. Are there any other pill options that are still really effective but won't dry you up?

I was on the mini pill. I have high blood pressure so I can't normal BC. The doctor never told me that there is a higher chance of me getting prgnant. This Dr i trust, I went through a ton of crap, and he was there to help me throgh it. You have the take the pill the same time everyday. If you dont take any BC on a regular basis, you have a chance of getting pregnant. Can't they give you the shot? That is what they offered me after I had my daughter and I was BF.

My advice isn't really worth anything here, but it sounds like you really want to take the pill and stop BFing. I say, do that if that is what you feel most comfortable with.

I don't think I've ever heard of the "mini pill." What's the brand name?

I picked the Nuva Ring. I like not having to think too much about BC. Especially once Natelie gets older, so you may want to go on the mini pill for now but keep the Nuva Ring in mind for later. Life is just so busy with a toddler.

Yeah...I'm with Michaelsbride - I don't dig birth control "apparatus" either.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to give the Nuva Ring a try first. If it's uncomfortable or I just can't get it in, then I'll go with the mini pill.
