aisle runner
Ok, so here's another dilemma of mine: the hotel that we're getting married at will let us rent a carpet aisle runner for 75 dollars, but we can by a plastic one for 25 dollars in several other places. Should we fork out more money for a better runner, or should we save the money as aisle runners are almost all the same?

Hmm. I don't know--I didn't/won't have an aisle runner. Would a plastic one be slippery and/or tear easily?

I have found that plastic ones are not slippery and the don't tear. It's not really something someone pays attention to so if you are not set on the fabric i would just go with the plastic. The only time i have seen the fabric one used it was already rolled out ahead of times. With the plastic u can wait till the wedding about to start.

Do you really want an aisle runner? Really, unless there are spots or something on the aisle, I don't see a need for one. But if you are going to get one, just remember that it's something that you're only going to use once. I would try ebay or maybe someone on here has one that they'll sell for cheap. As for plastic vs. fabric, I think the plastic is recommened for outdoors b/c it won't stick. But either should work I would think.

My church wouldn't let me use the plastic one I bought, because they said it would be an insurance liability. You may need to check and see if the location will even allow the plastic runner.
The plastic one can tear if you have pointy heels. With broader heels it's not a problem. I didn't find mine slippery when I tested it. I had to specifically try to poke the heel of my shoe down to make a hole in the runner.
The other problem we would have had would be with logistics of laying the runner. The cloth one is less likely to bunch up when it's walked on, so you can lay it down ahead of the ceremony. The plastic one, because it's lighter, moves more on the ground. And, even if the church had let us use it, I would have had to figure out a way to lay it after the guests entered, before the procession.

I'm kind of thinking the same thing. Is this really something you need or is it one of those things the "bridal gods" tell us we're supposed to get?

I'd go with the plastic one if you want a runner and have the ushers roll it out right before the procession starts.

two things i'm concerned about is any noise plastic might make when we walk on it....and if it will crinkle when walked on....but it's not a wedding detail that i'll fight over either way...i just want to make sure I don't slip...lol

Here are 2 pictures of cloth u can see how it crunches up plastic does the same time. If you put two sided tape on the ends it won't do this.

My runner was carpet. I'll see if I can find a pic that you can see it well. It's was included in my ceremony price. Plastic seems to be a PITA.

I'm not sure you even NEED a runner...so I'd go with the less expensive one. Plastic gets used all the time and it seems to be fine.

I'm doing plastic but I'm putting mine out ahead of time. the guest will not walk down the center aisle. I'm useing the two sided tape to make sure mine don't move or bunch up.

I've never seen one before I guess it's another tradition we don't share... The floor in our church is beautiful old wood so I have no problem with how it looks now...
What is the floor like in your church UCF?

hmm...i can't find the pictures..i think my fiance hid them from me....lol...tthanks for all the pics, it really helped put things in context....I think the more I hear everyone's opinions, the more I'm leaning away from the aisle runner....bc it really is only going to be used one time....decisions decisions

I found a runner for 20 bucks (cloth) at Michaels (with a 40% off coupon from the paper). i also saw a play the other night where the groom came down the aisle and took out a roll of paper towels and rolled it down the aisle as a joke before the real aisle was rolled out.... that would be REAL cheap (or a funny joke if you wanted to add a little humor)

I'm not using a runner but there is going to be a line of white rose petals on either side of the aisle before guests are seated. If you really want one, shop around and find the cheapest one in either cloth or plastic. You don't want to spend much money on something that is only going to be use once.
