I don't want Pots and Pans...
Because I registered at countless booths during the bridal shows I've gone to, I received a telephone call that I "won" a 3-day, 2-night all inclusive honeymoon to one of six Allegro resorts (I still have to pay airfare). Of course, I knew there would be a catch and that catch is me having to attend a "cooking" show Friday night (i.e., look a their pots and pans). Should I bother? They say I don't have to buy anything, I just don't know if it's worth my time!! Has anyone had this happen to them?

Don't Go!
You are wasting your time. I've read about this on the Better Business Bureau website. They give you this huge, high-pressure sell. You feel obligated to buy the pots and pans. The quality is not very good considering the arm-and-leg price tag attached to them.

Dear Lord, don't go. It's a scam... I guarantee it.

I got the same thing from the Bridal show here in Houston last July. FH got the call and thought we really won. I knew it was a scam. I hate giving them your info at the door when you go to a bridal show.

... exactly! I just got ANOTHER letter today from some banquet hall saying, "Thank you for your interest..." and I was thinking, "I DON'T have an interest, you just got my address off of a list!!!" I don't know if I'm going to go to anymore bridal shows... LoL.
And FH has to work Friday night anyway, so there will be no "cooking" show for us. The phone call that we won was so weird, too. They made me repeat the day, time, and "verification code" back to them. Yeah. I'm not going. Thanks anyway, weird pots-and-pans people.

They wanted to make sure you wrote it all down and you weren't pretending to care.
Oh..and another solution...when you go to a bridal show...give them the name and phone number to someone else, LOL! That way you can look around freely and someone else can get the junk mail and phone calls. Besides, have you received anything in the mail yet that you WOULD WANT? I know I haven't. I get 3-4 things a week and I throw it all away.

I never went to any bridal shows, but it does sound like a set up! They are just trying to do anything they can to get you in there. I received a few things via mail that I never was "interested" in, but I think they got my address from the Knot or something. Who knows.

Conspiracy theory: Every bride "wins" something!
Just last night I got a phone call telling me I won a bridal package! I just told them I wasn't interested. I don't even know what it was, but I didn't even "enter" anything. I tried on a dress at David's Bridal and they made me fill out all this contact info--just to try it on! And now I've gotten phone calls and emails, so I KNOW they sold that info!!! I didn't give my name, phone #, or email anywhere else in regards to wedding stuff.

Ohh, doesn't that make you mad?? I put in my info at the Davids Bridal website so I could save the dresses I liked and they called me to thank me for purchasing a dress there and wanted to set up another appointment....I was like, "I've never even set foot in a David's Bridal and I'm not getting married for another year...and I specifically requested NOT to be contacted when I filled in my info."
Good call on the pots and pans, so not worth the aggravation it will cause.

Cooking Shows
I too tried on dresses at David's and then got a call that I won a vacation. The catch being we had to attend a cooking show. They had to get my info from there, b/c I had never given my info out to anyplace else (this was shortly after we were engaged). But we went anyway, just to see...and it gave us a night together.
Well, the show wasn't bad, and we really liked the stuff, but it was waaaaay too expensive. They didn't offer a catalog tho, so we took our vacation info and left. However, I contacted the company a couple of weeks later b/c we wanted just one piece, not a whole package. Well, they called me back and the guy sold us what we wanted cheaper than the normal price b/c it had been a display piece. (It was an electric skillet, which we love, by the way.) And they sent me a catalog. No one at the show ever mentioned that you can just buy one piece...of course they're trying to get more money out of you.
The vacation and shopping spree we got were legit, which was cool. And we might buy more pieces in the future, just depends. But it is a gamble you take, so I guess it's just up to you how bad you want the "free" stuff. Lol. Do you know the name of the company that the show is for?
